1-99 F2P Mining & Smithing Guide - OSRS F2P Skill Guide

  • This video is a 1-99 F2P Mining & Smithing Guide. It is part of my OSRS F2P skill guides video series and is a quick and easy to follow guide to get you skilling and levelling Mining & Smithing in OSRS F2P.
    The guide is Ironman friendly, with specific Ironman hints, tips and advice. Those who can utilise the GE, will definitely have an easier and faster experience. This guide starts with a run through of any useful Quests, which in F2P is Doric's Quest, The Knights Sword, and the optional X Marks the Spot.
    My OSRS F2P Mining & Smithing Guide consists of two main sections. In each section I also cover the manual or ironman friendly (Not UIM) method, which can be undertaken by any account. in terms of Mining the two paths are largely identical, its more about if you need to bank your ore or not. Those with access to the GE probably don't need to bother banking ore, so can simply drop it and keep mining to max out XP rates. While those who can't should really bank their ore.
    For Smithing the GE makes a big difference and (as long as you have the coin, around 230 mil), you will be able to level significantly easier and faster. This is done by buying the bars required. Ironmen or those choosing the manual path will need to use iron (ideally mining a lot of it in the previous section), along with rings of forging, to smelt iron bars and then smith iron platebodies.
    This is one of my OSRS F2P Skill Guides, and is the final video in my series covering levelling/skilling for all of the F2P skills. For any hardcore F2P skillers out there, I would love to get your feedback and any F2P skilling tips you have so that I can include the best possible content in my videos!

    Extra little bonus manual method for folks wanting to combine their mining, smithing, and I suppose magic grinding?
    Once you have superheat metal take a walk to the somewhat new Giants Plateu just south of Emil's Arena. Bring along a fire staff, some nature runes, a pick, and a hammer. In this area is a small mine south of the abbey with 3 Iron and 4 Coal rocks (though not in an ideal placement) and a short walk to the center of this area is an anvil to smith all the bars you're making. Note it's quite a hike to/from town to bank if you aren't dropping everything you craft (ironman players probably want to make scimitars or leg armor to sell at the shops in town rather than plate). Neither fast nor click light, but you do get magic xp, level up both skills with one activity, and there isn't too much competition to mine those rocks.

    • @TheLumbridgeKnight
      @TheLumbridgeKnight  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ahh that's a good alternative mining spot! I always forgot about the giants plateau, looking at the map if you were mining iron in Al'Kharid and banking the ore/bars its probably a similar distance! Thanks for sharing that GamesAndWhales! 👍👍😀😀

    Ive been using camdozal a bit. I was at 45 in melees,, 41 in mining and 35 in smithing. My plan was to get all boosts and go farm the golems after for body cores for rc. I got bored and farmed giants up to 50 melee combats and bought 45 pray off the ge. Then i went back. I now have the mining, luck, and defensive buffs and it took me from 35 smith to 38, and 41 mining to 47. By the time i unlock all of them, ill maybe be at 50 mining and 40 smith. Its not great xp, but it enables arguably the best xp rate in runecrafting by then farming body cores.

      Yo! @jhomastefferson! Yeah I think farming body cores while training melee does offer a pretty good overall xp rate 🤔 I think that’s definitely a flaw in my video and something I should have gone into more depth on! Thanks for your comment man 😁👍 hope the training in Camdozaal goes well! I got base 60 combat with my HCIM in there using the golems, all the buffs plus the Baronite Mace gives arguably the best combat xp in F2P! 👍

    Love the video. But just wanted to point out one missed detail. As far as the Rings of Forging go, the only way for Ironmen to get them is to make them. Grum's Gold Exchange doesn't actually stock them, meaning any stock he does have is provided by players meaning they're always overstocked. Which prevents Ironmen from being able to buy them.

    I use al kharid mine. But I use the duel arena bank chest. It seems closer than the reg al kharid bank. I mine the 2 coal ores and the 2 irons side by side. I come out with like 6-8 coal and the rest iron ore. And I don't go through the main entrance of the duel arena; I go through the little fence opening around the back of it.

    My advise to the IM RoF business is to do your Combat grind first, I alched ~2k rubies on my way to 99 Ranged, and from 90/90/90 Atk/Str/Def so far, I banked already 1.6k of them, so 99 atk/str/def is enough for all the RoF you will need for 99 smithing.

      @@TheLumbridgeKnight I discovered today something that trivializes getting rings of forging that really should be noted in smithing guides like these.
      You can get infinite ruby rings, and thus very easy rings of forging by doing Crack the Clue 3, which lets you into the Varrock bank vault in the basement, where you can worldhop to grab the ruby ring spawn.
      It's laughably easy, though the more people know about it, the more competition

      Yeah it gets a bit much trying to mine all the smithing materials yourself. It’s much easier to just mine iron ore if you need mining xp, then either buy all the bars you need in bulk and smith them (quickest but most expensive option), or just use iron. Buy a tone of iron ore and rings of forging and smelt bars and smith plate bodies not as expensive as buying all the bars but nowhere near as slow as trying to make the bars yourself 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

      @@TheLumbridgeKnight Very understandable. Do you know how many hours for a regular iron man?

    • @TheLumbridgeKnight
      @TheLumbridgeKnight  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So assuming you have enough iron ore banked and have completed the Knights Sword Quest, I recon it will take 70ish inventories of iron items (ideally platebodys), I recon you should be able to smith at least 25 inventories of iron bars an hour, so it should take you 2-3 hours of pure smithing. You will need to mine and bank around 1,500 iron ore and have 11 rings of forging. And that's where you will lose all the time I recon it will take you at least the same again 2-3 hours to mine and bank enough iron ore, plus another 1 or 2 to smelt them. Sorry this is just a rough estimate but I recon you will be looking at around 6-8 hours of concentrated play to get it done. Hope this helps man!

    If im a ironman that doesnt have access tô rings of forging, the best option for me its tô mine silver all the way to 99 so when im about tô lvl up crafting i can use it? I wont be able tô use overheat mage nor rings of forging so what u suggest? Imma do 1 99 at time and was thinking of starting with mining. Maybe i go with iron mining but i keep then banked after 99 mage so i can overheat, idk. Need some theory craft

    • @TheLumbridgeKnight
      @TheLumbridgeKnight  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi aldencordova2541! Thanks for the comment 😁👍 So if you are an Ironman you can use rings of forging, you will just be limited on only being able to use the ones you make yourself or any ruby rings you can buy from Grums Gold Exchange in Port Sarim. So this will limit you but you can definitely use them so keep all rubies you find for that. Silver then gold mining/crafting is the way to go if you want to make some decent money as an Ironman. Silver is just a way to get to gold once you can make gold jewellery you can sell it to Grum to make a decent return. In terms of speed iron mining is definitely the fastest 99 in F2P so once you’re at level 40 and have a rune pick you are good to go, if you are wanting to power to 99 as fast as possible I’d just drop the ore, but as an Ironman I would bank your ore as, like you say it’s all extra XP and you can use some rings of forging or overheat later. To enchant your rings speak to Murkey Matt near the GE think he charges 250 coins per ring but it’s worth it! Hope that helps man! 👍 Let me know how you get on 👍👍

      @@TheLumbridgeKnight yeaw i think i will go with Silver/gold, bank all of it and maybe go for crafting on my second 99(or some other like WC/fishing), but i think 99 mining its a good starting point. What would you be the best location for gold mining, keeping in mind that imma be lvl 3 with 10 HP so scorpion places might me dangerous, any idea? Maybe falador(safespoting the gold and eating some cakes).
      Another problem is that in order to buy all pickaxes i would need like 50/60k, i can get 10k with stronghold of security, but the rest of it i would need to sell the ores, well i suppose thats not a problem.
      Thanks for the tips in regards tô the rings of forging, idk if im gonna be able tô use it bc theres not many ways tô get Ruby rings(maybe i can buy them at port sarim, gotta check), so i dont think i would be able tô craft those rubies i mine.

    • @aldencordova2541
      @aldencordova2541 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bro, i was doing some calculations and if i mine silver from 1-96 mining i get 99 crafting banked, then 96 - 99 with iron(with all smelting exp), i can get up to 94 smithing. The problem is that, in order to train crafting, i need 99 smithing, and in order to train smithing appropriately i would need rings of forging( almost 700), which would cost over 1,5m just to buy ruby rings from stores then pay 250gp to enchant. So, in the end, i will need lots of gp, not only to train those 2 skills, but to train 99 magic(which would be great btw, so i woudnt need to pay for enchanting all those rings). Do you have any suggestion to get money on a f2p ironman skill locked? I tought maybe LMS was a good option, bc i could trade the rewards and sell(i need to confirm if its f2p viable as much as p2p) BUT i checked and it need 150 total lvl to start it, which means i would need almost 2 99's to get. Anyway, selling my ores to shops its not an option bc i need the exp banked, so, any idea how to make lots of money passively? Like selling fishes or logs. If you have time i would accept your help with my theory craft haha Thanks anyway!

    • @TheLumbridgeKnight
      @TheLumbridgeKnight  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yo man sounds like you’re really crunching those numbers! If you’re sticking as a lvl 3 skilling pure the scorpions 🦂 definitely present a bit of problem 🤔 ultimately in this case you need to get 60 crafting and 60 mining so you can use the crafting and mining guild. Crafting guild has a lot of gold and silver and you can bank your ore using the deposit box in port sarim. Mining guild has a lot of decent ores and no scorpions plus quick bank access. 🤔 ok… so my suggestion would be get to 6 crafting, 20 mining and 20 smithing. Dorics quest will help. You have 2 options now either head to south west Varrock mine and mine silver till you hit 40 mining banking the ore in the west back so we can craft silver later for the crafting xp. Or only get 15 mining and just power mine iron to level 40 at Varrock east mine. You’ll need about 2,391 silver ore to smelt which will get you to 40 smithing. Once you have 40 smithing switch to mining gold at Rimmington and bank it using the deposit box at port sarim. Get about 116 gold then the make gold necklaces. This should get you to 16 crafting, now craft all you silver into unstrung symbols and once all that’s done sell your symbols at the general stores and sell your gold necklaces to grums gold exchange. Make sure to only sell a few at a time and then world hop to keep a decent price. This should get you the money to buy a rune pick. Probably need to calculate when’s best to switch it up but at 23 crafting you can make tiars which don’t sell as much as unstrung symbols but give more crafting xp. Obviously like you said before doing the SoS to get your 10k coins and keeping updating your pick axe as you level. I’d then go back to mining 5k silver to craft into tiaras till you hit 60 crafting. Once you can access the crafting guild you can choose weather you want to craft gold necklaces to sell a grums for money or silver tiars for crafting xp. All the while gaining mining xp in the background. 🤔😅 off the top of my head I think that’s what my plan would be 😅

      Hello Beer_With_A_Fork! Sorry it’s not clear in the video, but the 445 bars is enough if you have done The Knight’s Sword quest as your Xp will be 12,725 not 12,031 if you’ve just trained to lvl 29. Sorry I’ll add a note to update the video! Hope that makes sense 😅 Thanks for the comment 😁👍

    Quick 1, would it not be cheaper to just super heat all the iron ore instead of using ring of forging, plus you get good mage exp? Use fire staff and the price of nats nowaday being at 88-90gp each?

    • @afrxsamurai1782
      @afrxsamurai1782 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay ignore this just worked it out,superheat is like 32m to do all the ore, rings are about 5.6m 😅

    • @afrxsamurai1782
      @afrxsamurai1782 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      However it would get you 18m mage xp(102-103 mage) and 4.3m smith exp,giving you 87 smithing just from all the ores. But high alching to 99 mage from 55 you need 282,052 casts which is 25m, plus if you lose cash on whatever you're alching, so the extra 7m cash to get 87 smithing as well might be worth it in f2p, plus you wouldnt have to spend 5.6m on rings of forging. So I would say worth it if you have the cash, to know our x2 99 instead of 1

      I think if you are a non iron this would be a great way to make a lot of xp in both magic and smithing! Yeah it would cost a bit but it’s not horrendous. 1 thing you can do and something I meant to check but forgot, was if you high alch your rings of forging when they are down to their last charge. I hear that you still get the full amount despite there being only 1 charge. So if that’s right you will get 1.2k back per ring 🤷🏻‍♂️ I need to check this as I was meant to add this as a tip at the end and forgot 🤦🏻‍♂️ Thanks for your comments and suggestions though afrxsamurai1782! 😁 All good points and ideas man! 😂👍👍

    I've been playing OSRS for a little while now and started wondering: why lvl up smithing? Sounds like the only goal is to create runite items, as they make a lot of money. Was surprised that mining and selling coal is not great money maker. Why do y'all lvl mining?

    • @TheLumbridgeKnight
      @TheLumbridgeKnight  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hello zeldamage001! Thanks for the comment/question! So smithing if you can level it is a good money maker like you say, plus ironmen can’t buy a rune scimmy, so the only way for them to get one currently is to smith one themselves. At 60+ mining you can mine coal to sell and make money, the reason 60 is recommended is you can access the mining guild. It’s slow going though so you can make more money doing other things. In F2P there’s not a huge reason to train mining past a certain point, unless you’re an Ironman and planning to smith. A lot of people in OSRS see getting 99 stats as the challenge, so mining is good because it’s relatively quick compared to say prayer or runecrafting 😅 There’s more reason to train skills if you are going members because there’s a lot more quests with requirements for it. 😅 Hope that makes sense 😂👍

      Yo stevenhenry2850! That may be well be true but I’m not going to make a video on how to bot 😂 And believe it or not I’ve never even attempted botting in ORSR always valued my account too much and I mainly played members 😅 I do wish more was done to prevent botting 🤷🏻‍♂️ I guess it’s probably a time and resources thing, same as the cheating that’s rife in online games now. Companies could stop it, but it means taking people off making new content or spending profit on tighter security solutions. They all prefer to take the money in the short term and screw the players in the long 🤷🏻‍♂️ In osrs’s case I don’t think the dev team is particularly big so I can kinda understand them wanting to focus on new content 😢

      Ahh yeah, mining in F2P is massively bot heavy… If you are using RuneLite try using the world hopper plug in so you can quickly world hop to the next world with just a key press, that way you might be able to find an open world quicker… 😢 I wish Jagex would tackle the bots more…
