This tracks, like Nico was fine in book three when he opened that pit in the ground to swallow the skeletons, and he had been at camp and eating, and then he literally RAN AWAY, so. This totally tracks.
If Nico eats and uses his power on a full stomach he’s gonna kill everyone within a ten mile radius, think about how powerful he is now without eating enough….
In the Heroes of Olympus books multiple characters commented on how little Nico ate and Reyna said that the first time she saw Nico eat more than a little fruit was after shadow travelling with the Athena Parthenos so this makes a lot of sense. I also think that Nico's powers are simply more draining too because in the first Trials of Apollo book he passes out after shadow travelling but he has been at camp for 6 months and he spent mealtimes with Will and in The Last Olympian Mrs O'Leary gets tired after shadow travelling too.
Personally I believe in "Nico is chronically ill but it only shows through his powers" theory But this also adds up since now Apollo kids needing sun is canon so maybe his powers wouldn't do him that bad of he ate more
Ahh, I love the little 6, ❤💙🩵🖤💛🩶🤍 (I’ll let you guess which heart goes with which character - the red one). The little 6 being (in order of when I think we met them) 1.) Percy 2.) Thalia 3.) Bianca 4.) Nico 5.) Jason 6.) Hazel (Yes I know technically Bianca and Nico were most likely debuted in book 1, but since we didn’t know their names back then, I’m moving them back.)
@@topazdrake42personally I’m assuming that they’ve listed the names of the characters in order we meet them (debatably so with the Di Angelo’s, but whatever) and not necessarily the hearts. Although I am a bit confused as to why there’s 7 hearts and only 6 characters. Perhaps Estelle as an honorary cousin?
Not in this fandom, but I actually do something like this but I doubt it's an eating disorder. A few years ago, taking my adhd meds daily made me not hungry until late at night but Imwas denied food because of the time despite not really having eaten anything throughout the day. Now, no longer taking the meds, I still don't have the appetite I should and 7/10 times I only eat dinner. However, to make up for that loss my body will give me "hungry days" where I actually feel the hunger and end up eating quite a fair bit(but only a little more than what tye average person would eat in a day) That took too long to type-
It's a bit less an Eating Disorder and more Disordered Eating, if that makes sense. It's well known that amphetamines (most ADHD medications are in this drug class) cause decreased appetite; this is something that most psychiatrists will warn you of. Since you were denied food when you were hungry, your body adapted to understand you wouldn't usually respond to the hunger signals, and for the most part stopped trying. This can happen in eating disorders like anorexia or Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). Or, like in Nico's case, when you've gone long stretches not having access to enough food. I have this too! The only time I actually feel 'hungry' is when my body enters the starving response. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just something to be aware of. Everyone has different needs for nutrition, and just as a couple fun facts: - The 1200 calorie thing is a starvation diet; afab/women just doing normal things expend 2400 calories per day, and amab/men burn calories more efficiently because of their higher muscle mass. It's similar to the Minnesota Starvation Experiment, in which 36 young, healthy men were recruited in order to figure out the best way to re-feed people suffering from starvation in 1944. Three months were spent calibrating the amount of food they needed daily, then six were spent with these volunteers only eating around 1570 calories a day, which was about half of what they needed, and caused them to lose, on average, a quarter of their body weight. The last three months were spent trying different rehabilitation diets. They developed issues like anxiety and depression, as well as eating habits similar to those with anorexia or bulimia, and a preoccupation with food that lasted long after the starvation even though they were in a monitored and controlled environment. These volunteers were also very motivated, believing fully that the study would help people around the world in famine situations after WWII. One guy ended up cutting off a finger while chopping wood and couldn't explain why or how, signifying the mental impact of starvation (the brain uses about 20% of your energy in a resting state, as tracked by oxygen consumption, despite only weighing a total of roughly three pounds) - Calories are measured using a device called a bomb calorimeter, in which the food item is burned in a sealed container surrounded by water and the increase in water temperature is recorded, as well as the "4-9-4" method (Carbs and proteins have about 4 kilocalories per gram and fats have 9 kilocalories per gram) but we have no proof this is how the human body uses food for energy. Take care of yourself, and I hope I could offer some insight or maybe just even a bit of new information you probably won't ever need. Have a good one!
Wow, how have I never thought of that!? It answers soo many of my question... Tha fact that I've been reading this series over and over again for like 8 years now and never realised this I love this theory, I consider this canon now Anyway, love all of your videos keep them coming!
I like this hc, because it is a bit weird for Nico to be the only one with major side effects from his powers. I believe Nico has both an eating disorder and a chronic illness but he doesn't know. Due to his very short and very outdated education he just doesn't know what either are. He's vaguely aware most people eat more than him but he's not concerned, and with the chronic illness he straight up thinks everyone struggles like that and he's being dramatic.
Especially with being a hades kid I relate to Nico Sm, I often forget to eat too, it’s not that I try to starve myself I’m just not hungry and it does lead to passing out and nausea sometimes 😭
As much as I love my headcanon that Nico has chronic illness that affect his powers this totally tracks and is definitely a great theory/headcanon

Fr!
Exactly
I mean, could've been adrenaline, but still, interesting
yep
If Nico eats and uses his power on a full stomach he’s gonna kill everyone within a ten mile radius, think about how powerful he is now without eating enough….
Oh God no I don't even want to think about it

Wait that actually makes a lot of sense
Ya
I love this so much. Thank you for finally addressing the fact that NICO WONT EAT.
Personally I believe in "Nico is chronically ill but it only shows through his powers" theory

I'm taking this headcanon and running with it
From the dumb amount of times I’ve seen these Percy Jackson videos I’ve come to the conclusion: a big portion of Percy Jackson fans have nose rings
Especially with being a hades kid I relate to Nico Sm, I often forget to eat too, it’s not that I try to starve myself I’m just not hungry and it does lead to passing out and nausea sometimes 😭
😮 that makes sense
Nico is using more energy than he's intaking.
I’m crying now thx🖤
I don’t know how you did it but you made my comfort character more relatable to me
C’mon nico let’s get you some tiramisu
Will and annabeth need to have a serious conversation about this with Nico
FINNALY someone picked up on it like this checks out after son of neptune 😙
Feed the goth boi
This has been my theory for so long 😁
I dam love this ye
Makes sense
