The Weller Bros. Trading Co. was based in New Zealand, and had enlisted whaling ships that would camp along the islands and archipelagos. The crews of these ships were 'compensated' with trade goods such as sugar, tea, rum, spice, fabrics, food stuffs, etc; for the whales they brought in. The sailors then had to turn their own profits by selling or bartering these goods. The high-commodity goods were of course the most sought after, especially-so for rum, which could be sold/drank on its own or mixed in the drinking water as a preservative, creating grog. Sugar and tea supplies survive as long as they're kept dry, and their demand made the sale of any amount profitable. Fabrics on the other-hand weren't favorable because whalers wouldn't have much use for them, and found that it was difficult to sell textiles in small quantities.
Neutral ending: The line's not cut and the whale's not gone, the wellerman makes his regular call Good ending: The whale was caught and the sale of oil and other yields gets everyone a good payday and much needed time with the family Bad Ending: The whale escaped and could not be found. You return empty handed. Worse ending: Backstory to Bones in the Ocean
The bad ending: The wellermen but you its the last song you sing as you starve to death. The good ending: The Wellermen but you sing it in victory after successfully hunting a whale
Picture yourself rowing along with you mates. out here on the sea, all are equal before its uncaring nature. And once it is caught you know that your reward waits you on the ship with your fellow crew. The wellermen make sure of it.
