Definitely one of my favourite Pertwee Dr Who stories. Great memories of watching it in 1972. Location work with the Navy really adds to the feel of the story. I love the music, it’s so unsettling and alien. Nice end with The Master escaping back asap to his Tardis. Next story not so good but I don’t mind it.
@@gordonwebster2802 It is doubtful, without home media, that a lot of these actors, facts, characters, stunts. etc' would have been seen often after BBC transmission. In Ambassadors of Death, some of the student me in the warehouse fight, and the Helicopter attack play both UNIT, and the Thugs. Other stories too! Now, that we know who-is-who, and extras on home media, with interviews, we realize how active some were - or we notice the stunt doubles. 🙃
@ he did what he could, bless him. He said to Pertwee that he felt cowardly, but Pertwee told him he was the bravest man there as he was the one overcoming his fear.
And with the closing episode of this story we are at the Pertwee halfway point. Twelve stories watched - Twelve stories still to come. I still reckon this story could have lost an episode and been slightly tighter (and I'd have given that episode to Curse of Peladon - purely to see the Doctor facing the real Earth delegate and have some of the politics of joining the Federation discussed).
The Sea Devils is great action adventure, but lacks the dramatic depth and ambiguity of Malcolm Hulke’s best stories. Having said that, there is a wonderfully ambiguous look on Pertwee’s face in that final shot, a mixture of fury and grudging admiration as his old frenemy speeds off into the distance - the exploration of the Doctor-Master relationship is one of the story’s strongest facets. It may not have been Roger Delgado on that speed boat, but given he was terrified of water he showed what a true pro he is by getting into the sea for the rescue scene.
Pertwee says the neutron flow line again, but not during his era as the Doctor.
I recently re-watched this episode. You did a great job in summarizing it.

Sea Devil front flip courtesy of stuntman Stuart Fell (aka the Body of Alpha Centauri).
And the male body double for Katy Manning, on the ladder. He worked on Who for years -sometimes in creature costumes, a few times as a human 🙃
@@jonathanmurphy3141 In fact, Stuart gets a hat trick as in addition he plays a Prison Guard on the beach who shoots at the Sea Devil!

You are now exactly half way through the Pertwee run of episodes.
That's nuts. It feels like we are making headway fat more quickly than with Hartnell and Troughton.
Hovercrafts don't actually need the skirt, it's just there to help in rough weather.
The flipping Sea Devil is Stuart Fell again, isn't it? Flippin' Sea Devil!
Thomas has got some sassy going on today. All companions alike, indeed!
Roger Delgado had a terrible fear of water didn't he?
he did. He was utterly petrified.
Fair play to him not doing his own boat stunts then!
