    My wife went to one in 09 for headaches. The chiro took x-rays and claimed her neck was too straight and that it needed to be curved like a question mark. The woman did a single adjustment and caused a vertebral artery dissection right in the office which caused a stroke in my 26 yr old wife. She ended up in icu for little less than a week then had speech and physical therapy for months afterward. Not to mention the high risk of blood clotting and further stroke risk during the stay in icu.
    We are fortunate she made a near 100% recovery but it was still scary asf to go through.
    The real icing on the cake is somehow the quack was found not guilty after a 40 hour jury trial.
    So we got double screwed.
    Good times.

    I went to college for massage therapy and one of my professors was a chiropractor (all the rest were practicing or former massage therapists, he taught anatomy and physiology, not technique). This professor told us a fun trick of the trade was to have a patient stand slightly askew while taking an xray of their spine at the beginning of their first appointment and tell them they had a bit of scoliosis, several sessions later, line them up properly and bam! Scoliosis cured! Learned that at 18 and haven't trusted chiropractors since.

    My wife saw a chiropractor for some back pain a while ago, though from what I heard from her accounts of what happened there, the chiropractor didn't really believe in the crap himself, as her sessions were maybe 10 minutes of cracking and then the rest was just physical therapy. So the guy seemed to actually know what he was doing. My wife's back pain was gone after a few sessions, and he gave her some actual physical exercises to do to prevent the pain in the future. So I would almost more say my wife went to a physical therapist, but the guy advertised himself as a chiropractor, so idk.

    • @katherinegriffin
      @katherinegriffin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +692

      i read that the only way to get any benefits from chiropractics is to be working with a physical therapist at the same time, it sounds like chiropractics is just putting a bandaid on an issue by giving temporary relief but the exercises in physical therapy are what will actually correct/improve whatever issues are causing the discomfort

    • @Luke-bq7sd
      @Luke-bq7sd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +115

      this is terribly misinformed. Chiropractors work with the musculo-skeletal system, nervous system, and with soft tissue treatment. If your wife required only 10 minutes of manipulation and the rest was physical therapy and soft tissue treatment, then that's her specific case. It is different for everyone, don't mistake what is a genuinely good chiropractor doing their job and treating each patient to their individual needs with them 'not believing in it'

Three days ago, he decided to go to a chiropractor near the local mall, and I witnessed the magic before my very eyes. The chiropractor was so good, that my brother instantly fell asleep. He currently is in the bed, and I am just amazed that he is finally getting much needed sleep! When I was young, I had to go to the chiropractor with my family. There were weekly visits for a while, where when it was my turn, I'd come in and lie face down on a table and the chiropractor comes in and cracks my back (and neck?), then I sit in a chair and he cracks my neck that way.
    Well.. _one time,_ when it came to sitting in the chair.. the man proceeds to hold my head and fast turn it to the left to crack my neck - except, there was no cracking sound. Having not worked the first time, he proceeds and tries turning my head to the right instead - there was still no crack. So then I felt him ready himself to turn my head _even further to the right_ and needless to say, _I jumped out of that chair so fxcking fast._
    Like, "If one's neck doesn't crack on the first _and second_ try, you really gonna just gonna keep trying until you rotate their head a whole 180°?" I was certain he would've killed me at that point. I mean, I can imagine there are people who have fear of chiropractors for that very reason and having experienced *that* , I can understand it. Just.. there's no way I would trust that.

    Showed some of the creepy chiropractor's videos to a friend who's actually skilled in chiropractics and she said his methods haven't been taught in the 40 years she's been practicing and instructing, the neck pulling is a HUGE no-no as it can and will lead to permanent damage, the standing up neck pop is also a no-no, pretty much EVERYTHING he does has not been standard practice for decades, if I'm to guess he was taught old methods and adapted them to what looks good on camera and makes repeat customers with empty promises and possibly temporary relief if he's even a chiropractor at all.

    Only had to go once, after talking about my problem and a quick examination he didn't take more than 20 minutes to fix it forever. Nothing innappropriate, no bs talk. So I do believe there are legit chiropractors out there, but whatever this circus is, isn't that.

I couldn't even pull my fat ass out of bed at first, I had to start with 3 sit-ups at a time for weeks and it was always the last thing I wanted to do. He almost never popped a baby though. His most requested service was basically stretching a baby in ways that got their digestive system to move more and help constipated babies get it all out. He was essentially a massage therapist for babies. He did a few adjustments on adults every now and then but for the most part He had Maybe 3 patients a week, if that. Honestly it's hard to tell when they are legitimate vs. when they aren't. When my dad was younger and played soccer and basketball, he ended up hurting his spine. He went to a chiropractor that was a friend's friend, and he fixed him up that same day and he hasn't had problems since (note this is in Mexico so no insurance connections whatsoever). Recently, since I sit at a desk most of the day for school and work, I decided to go to a chiropractor to relieve the stress in my spine and hips (I'm in the US) and my dad thought it would be neat since he had a good experience. This guy decided to jerk my neck in the most awful, painful way and now I have Dysphagia because of him. I'll tell you my dad was VERY angry. So yeah, I just stick to exercising and stretching every morning. it just pains me to see patients going through this and seeing that the few genuine chiropractors are assumed to be bad as well.

      I think most reputable chiros will tell you that chiropracting isn't a magic fix for all your issues, and advise other methods for long term relief. It's the shady ones who act like they're the most effective way to cure every single ailment that you need to watch out for.

      The majority of what chiropractors treat, or at least good ones, is soft tissue. If you have incredibly tight shoulders, or sore muscles in your back, hip flexors, etc, they have various methods to deal with this.
      Electrode stimming, massage therapy, heating pads, airbag pressure therapy, platelet rich plasma, trigger point injections, etc. Then at the very end for about 5 minutes, they do some adjustments, the bone cracking everybody seems to focus on.
      Guess what isn't pseudoscience? Sports massage, soft tissue rehab, electrode stimming. These are all scientifically proven to stimulate blood flow, and increased blood flow and circulation is actually what causes our bodies to heal themselves. That's why calf muscles and feet are the most likely to cramp, because they receive the least amount of circulation in the body. Massage feels good and has healing effects precisely because of the fact that it increases blood flow to the areas being massaged and aids our bodies in healing themselves. None of that is junk or akin to aromatherapy.

    I went to a chiropractor once after a neck injury and it was honestly just a very chill experience. Definitely nothing insane happened. I had almost no neck mobility and my neck was twisted to the side. He just did some gentle massages and helped me stretch my neck during the massage. I was able to turn my neck more than I had in over a week because there was slight relief from the pain. He also cracked my back which felt amazing but didn’t do much more to my neck for fear of injuring me since it was so tender. He taught me some stretches and sent me packing. There was no crazy technique or threats my spine would disintegrate if I didn’t come back. Then I watch vids like this and read the comments and I’m so glad I ended up with a normal chiropractor that time and not someone like this.

    She didn't crack any bones in our daughter. She found where muscles in our daughter's shoulder were knotted from the birthing process and massaged the knot. The results were very good and immediate. We went back a week later for a follow up and the chiropractor asked if we'd had any further problems. When we said "no", she said there was no reason for her to work on our daughter.

    There are temporary benefits to some chiropractic acts such as reducing pressure on joints. Issue being people and some chiropractors portray chiropractics as a permanent or holistic therapy. Any chiropractor worth a damn will tell you that what they do is akin to getting a message: temporary relief that doesn't solve the problem, just reduces the symptoms. If you need to go to a chiropractor for months or years, you don't, you need surgery.

      Everything the chiropractor does, you can do at home at the cost of zero dollars. Its called stretching. If you do it daily your scoliosis will get better. I heard yoga really helps too and who would have thought, yoga is free to.
      You should also do sports that strenghten your back, cause the more muscles you have in your back, they will help support your spine and straighten it naturally, cause the two big muscle strains running left and right of the spine support the back the most and are the reason we can stand upright. If you let them get weak and sloppy your scoliosis will get worse.

      Yoga is good to reduce the pain and to increase flexibility. However if you have severe scoliosis which is what she mentioned you can build up back muscles but I wouldn’t recommend building up the back muscles by joining a sport this can do more harm than good bc you’re mobility is already restricted. It’s better to do physical therapy that way you can target more specific groups and do it in a more controlled way. It also depends on the category of scoliosis bc there is congenital, idiopathic and neuromuscular. Most people have idiopathic which literally means that the cause of your scoliosis can’t be pinpointed or is straight up unknown.

    As someone with a connective tissue disorder that makes it a lot easier to dislocate things, bad chiropractors terrify me. They could easily send me to the hospital if not permanently put me in a wheelchair. My grandma and cousins go to good chiropractors that really help, but I’m not even gonna take the chance.

Adjustments are definitely real and they do work but I rarely see chiropractors that seem knowledgeable about anatomy and physiology. It seems people either have really good experiences with chiropractors, or the absolute worst no in between. My Mother had shooting pain down her lower back all the way through her leg, she went to a chiropractor and he fixed it in 1 session. I've heard far too many horror stories of people's medical complaints being dismissed or not taken seriously. My experiences with medical professionals have been pretty positive, but even I have a few stories. There are some chiropractors that are full on doctors or physical therapists that do actually perform great work. The key is they know that you need to strengthen the muscles around a problem area after an adjustment in order to actually fix the issue long term and will tell you you don't need to come back after the issue has been resolved. These chiropractors are a rarity though. Most other chiropractors are a joke, a waste of money, and actually dangerous. My dad had a stroke and almost died because a bad chiropractor managed to sever an artery in his neck... So just be very careful if you ever need a chiropractic adjustment of some kind and get someone professionally licensed or just don't risk it at all.

    I think it depends on your chiropractor. I have scoliosis and military neck and I work EMS (which doesn’t help my back). The chiropractor has always really helped relieve my back and neck pain. The “ring dinger” type of move helps relieve the pressure on my neck from my military neck compressing the vertebrae. But these chiropractors are just humans, like any doctor, nurse, etc: there can be those that are god at their job and others who aren’t. Most of the ones I see on TH-cam I would say are fake. The chiropractor shouldn’t hurt if they are doing everything correct. The chiropractor also includes massage and tens therapy, which exercise and stretching.

    My parents have also been going to the chiropractor for a very long time. My mom went when pregnant with me (25 years) and still goes. They made me go starting around 8 as well since I was in constant pain rather than y’know… have me checked out by an *actual* doctor. Turns out I have several CNS diseases that cause my chronic pain and scoliosis. I went several times a week 8-18 and never saw any improvement - besides strengthening a few muscles to help my hypermobility (hEDS). My chiropractor seemed to know what he was doing for the most part but I never understood why he never questioned _why_ I was in constant pain.

    my chiropractor doesn’t fix anything, he just cracks my back for $45 and then tells my parents he sees “room for work “ but he’s “noticed a huge improvement” on my spine. any time i remind him about the fact that i can’t feel my left shoulder and that the numb spot is growing, he says “well your vertebrae say differently!” 😕 my parents believe his words over mine. chiropractics are, in my experience, just psychology major dropouts.

    • @olocippicolo
      @olocippicolo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      hmmm it does sound like a rip off... "huge improvement" though the issue is still there. Have you been having these chiro sessions for a long time? Some adjustments can take weeks to correct some issues, but since yours seems to be worsening, it might be good to get another point of view, just in case there isn't another health issue hiding under those symptoms.
      It reminded me of something, not saying that's what you "have", but it sounded a bit similar. A friend of mine, she had a scoliosis, even when she was quite young, back problems, etc. One day during her high school years, she noticed that she couldn't feel her shoulder/arm anymore, the other was fine though. But as the days passed, she couldn't feel her whole arm, then her neck, mouth,... she even started to have difficulties keeping her balance. Rushed to the hospital, took scans, turns out she had a Chiari malformation. Again, not saying that's what you might have, but it might be better to discuss, to really insist on the fact that you don't feel any progress about your condition.

    For decades I swore by my chiropractor. If my back "went out" I'd go straight there and he'd fix it, normally, within a day. If the first didn't take he'd do the second, later in the day, for free. It was like, 99.9% effective.
    I ended up with herniation on 2 disks that put my on me my back for a month and a half. I don't blame the chiropractor for that. I was a long time gamer with terrible posture, diet, and muscle build. During this time I did a lot of research and found that your vertebrae can't "go out". It is physically impossible unless you've broken something.
    What actually happens is a muscle spasm. The muscle compresses the nerve against the spine and that is what gives the pinched sensation. Make the muscle go down and Voila! No more back pain! I achieve this by getting my knuckles into the spasm. Work em around and when you feel the tight spot, brace for some pain, and put hard direct pressure on it for about 10-15 seconds and gradually release the pressure while kneeding the area with your knuckles.
    Guess what. My back has never "gone out" for more than the few moments it takes to do this...
    What I think is going on is one part endorphin release and one part placebo. There is a very real envigorating feeling that comes from chiropractic adjustment. I think that help to release the muscle. Where it is scummy is that these chiropractors often try to sell the issue as a vertebrae that is "out" and that they need to "manipulate" it back into place....
    I think I got kind of lucky with my chiropractor as he didn't charge a lot or suggest I come in regularly. It was only when I needed it and it wasn't very often.

      Discs can herniate, which means they break. The fluid, that acts as a damper between the vertebrates, gets into the spinal canal and compresses the nerve, as well as the joints of the vertebrates grinding together more intensely because the disc can't carry as much weight. All this is very very painful and a serious injury and can lead to becoming disabled in the worst cases. A pinched nerve or tense muscles is something different.
      Just not to confuse those two, a chiropractor can treat the latter, but a herniated disc just can't be treated by massage or bonecracking, since it's physiacl damage that just has to heal

After a month of going to a well known Chiropractor near my area and him giving me daily exercises for me to do at home the pain was finally gone and I can finally do normal things without pain. The Chiropractor was great and he did had the goal to fix my problem, didn't do any crazy stuff like in the video and explained to me what exactly he was doing. After my problem was solve I never visited again since he only told me that if there is still pain then comeback and if not then I'm good to go. ALL "chiropractics" is a scam. No exceptions. Some people might have legitimate skills, AS WELL as practicing chiro, but that doesn't make their chiro any more legit, just like having a stage magician who really can change a tyre, doesn't somehow make their "magic" real.
      Chiro was invented by a guy who literally claimed that a ghost it to taught him- The entire theory underlying chiro is spiritualist jibberish that no real medical field has ever accepted, and no proper scientific study has ever found chiro to be any more effective than a placebo. Chiro can't really cure/treat anything, but it CAN injure or even kill you- Every year, people get paralyzed or killed in chiro sessions.
      It's been scientifically proved, over and over, that the ONLY bennefits chiro can ever have, are 100% psychological. The same way that people often swear they got real, physical bennefits from "faith-healing sessions", or "psychic healers" from people "casting magical spells"- The bennefits are real, but they come from YOUR OWN MIND, not from the faith-healing/chiro/magical spells.
      Giving cash to ANYONE practicing chiro, is the exact same thing as giving cash to a "psychic", or "palm reader", or any other fake profession.
