    Very nice Job.
    I like the way you incorporated the power plug and also the use of the Multitool to cut the holding tabs.
    Haven't seen anyone else do that but as usual now I see it done, it's obvious.
    Now I want a laser capable of cutting and engraving perspex.
    Cheers
    Peter

    Thanks we have been making similar design forvabout .10 years ..and we have used the multicolored led strips that come with own power supply and remote control ..it works great and looks great you can change the colors and be solid or have it change colors ....very nice ....we made plexi signs for all the holidays and one base so as holidays come around you just change the sign...

    After seeing this, I'm going to start looking for lasers. Maybe I can find a good used one for cheap.
    Any suggestions on where to start ? Most of the stuff I'm going to make will be 12x12 or smaller.
    Thanks for the great video.

    • @1111jessyjames
      @1111jessyjames  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim, you can do this so easily. Check out the "Glowforge" system. There's a backlog but it looks great. Otherwise you can order them from dealers in the U.S. If you want the Chinese lasers. They are much cheaper than epilog lasers. I purchased one from China. You want a G. Weike version.

      No. not glowforge. they have still never shipped any actual product. nothing but vaporware. Lots of cheap lasers on ebay, but look around and you can find maker shops and local laser shops pretty easy. I've got one in San Francisco area.

    After watching your video I made a base similar to yours. It looks great! But, noticed the lights get a little warm, (not hot just warmer than I would like). I am using 12V 1 amp for power supply. I think it may need some ventilation to keep it cool. I think it's to enclosed or something. Do you have any suggestions?

    Great video, thanks for doing it. I'm just starting to experiment with acrylic/plexi. I just made one for my daughter with her college logo, but I had some trouble with the bit getting clogged. Are you using router bit or a laser?

    • @1111jessyjames
      @1111jessyjames  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Greg Raso I used my laser to etch and profile cut. Acrylic likes to cut cool. You have to make sure you are cutting a the correct speeds and rpm. If your machine doesn't move very quickly than you will need to slow your spindle speed way down or you will end up melting the acrylic material. The speeds and feeds varies depending on the type of materials. The ballpark starting point would be spindle speed of about 6000 to 8000 rpms with a feed rate of 45 to 50 ipm. Engrave with a 60 degree V-bit. You might have to start and stop to clean up the melting until you find the sweet spot. Once you do you have it made my friend.

    I love your idea....i would just use dimensional lumber though for your base...no reason to cut out a rectangle shape if u can buy the wood already cut... Like 1x3 or 1x2 or 1x4 ....Unnecessary wear on your machine.... But thats me.....unless special reason i woukd never cut out a rectangle shape you can buy....i would adapt the project to use dimensional lumber.....i love the idea though....thank you
