Nice video I like your work arounds and making your own tools. I have listened and watched the video so many times I have their jingle echoing in my head while I’m working. I’m sorry to hear you’re having a hard time with your sewing machine with needle strikes. I have called them on a number of occasions and got good help plus the manual on timing and TH-cam on timing are good too as well. I’m sewing a Bimini right now so thanks for your input I’m going to use some of your ideas on fitting the pockets to get that contour correct. All the best Neal Southwest Florida
The needle strikes have all but disappeared since I discovered using a larger table. The weight of the material hanging over a small table pulls the needle out of alignment causing needle strikes (that's my theory anyway).
Looking good. Three dimensional thinking. You are good at improvising You have helped me get mine done. Next week completion. Once you get needle strike. You have dings in the cage and that creates more problems. Hope you are enjoying your creation
Came our really nice! I must have been lucky with my Sailrite zigzag machine. My biggest problem was getting the correct size needle to match the thread weight. Then I switched to Tenara....whole new learning curve. Happy to hear they made good on it.
I was reluctant to leave my frustration in the video, but I wanted people to see that if they're having issues, they should simply make an inquiry to sailrite, and not to wait until they get frustrated. Thanks for watching. Next season, we will add the windshield and side curtains.
3:18 Two words... CONSEW or PFAFF! But the Sailrite machine is not bad, just not my #1 choice if you do marine canvas for a living. Good job for your first one!
I have since had better luck. I will admit that at least 50% of the problem was user error and 25% inexperience and 25% machine issues. I'm having much better with it now.
Yes I agree with you. I have years of experience using heavy duty machines as a parachute rigger. Have owned 3 other machines in the last 20 years. Purchased smaller machine for use on sailboat.

We just bought a house in SW Florida as well. We have 1 more winter here in the great white north, then we will sail down next summer.

Oh, I agree. I have the Sailrite for the portability. I use a Juki for bigger projects

Yeah, I never caught that before. It’s definitely a 1/2 inch seam allowance and not 2 inches.
