Now people know why Maldives rejected the $500 million assistance package from India just a couple of days ago. Spending by Chinese tourists to the Maldives easily surpasses $500 million Indian aid within a couple of years, not to mention the immense benefits of basic infrastructure to improve the welfare of all Maldivians.
