      he probably just associated the song with that scene in royal tenembaums. Needle in the hey isn't creepy. Honest is a good word. Elliott smith didn't make creepy music. He made beautiful music with a hint of sadness. but i never felt sad listening to his music. it always gave me joy.

    • @paulrichardson9105
      @paulrichardson9105 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I can see what he means, the whole song has a manic urgency to it and the story of it builds from a pitiful awkwardness through nervous energy to a kind of wounded animal viciousness with the final verse. which is why the song feels so honest and probably why it helped Johnny so much because it perfectly reflects the descent into a kind of madness that embodies that behavior

    • @RamtroStudios
      @RamtroStudios 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      it's a threat to yourself.
      "so i can be quiet whenever i want", i always saw as meaning wanting your mind to be quiet, for the pain and mental anguish that you feel to finally end, which can be interpreted as wanting to commit suicide. maybe i'm influenced by The Royal Tenenbaums but i see it more as a threat to yourself, not at others.
