Hi Dave , I'am Native American. I watch your videos for content on Siberia. Would you please consider making one on the Republic Of Komi and all those small villages nearby Syktavar. There doesn't seem to be many videos about this region. On a side note, I truly enjoy your sense of humor. You seem to find the cutest random situations in your travels. I also can appreciate how you bear with it when people aren't so friendly. That is their problem to cope with, not yours. Keep up the good work sir! 😄

In 2020 I made another time travel to Soviet times by visiting Barentsburg and Pyramiden. They are Russian towns operated by Russia in the Norwegian territory of Svalbard situated closer to the North Pole than any settlement in Siberia. Barentsburg is still populated. The area of Transnistria was once heavily settled by the Germans at the invitation of Kathrine the Great. After Germans lost WWII all the remaining German settlers were exiled to Siberia by Stalin and the region was populated with Russians. That's why Transnistria has such a Russian influence and Putin has a military base there but it all started with Stalin.....

I was interested to watch this video because some while ago I maintained a small humble blog, and part of it looked at gay issues in various parts of the world. I came across Transnistria and wrote a short piece about how gays are regarded legally and culturally there. Much to my surprise (I rarely received any comments), I had a message from someone of authority within the country which in no uncertain terms threatened me. How my blog was brought to their attention still bemuses me. I did comment back that I would write what I damn-well liked. No reply in answer, but the whole incident truly astonished me. Robert, UK.

6:43 That isn't the Russian flag.. In 2009, the Supreme Council discussed a proposal to replace the civil flag - which is plain red-green-red without the hammer and sickle - with a new flag, carrying three horizontal stripes in the colours white, blue, and red, being nearly identical to the flag of the Russian Federation, but with a different aspect ratio (1:2 instead of Russia's 2:3). The primary reason for the co-official national flag is that it indicates Transnistria's desire for closer ties with Russia, a guarantor of Transnistria's claimed independence from Moldova. In a 2006 referendum, 97.2% of Transnistrians were reported to have voted in favour of increased free association with Russia. The new flag is used alongside the state flag. In 2017, the Supreme Council passed a motion making the new design Transnistria's co-official national flag.

Those places are getting shelled tho... Maybe not all of Russian controlled Donbass, as HIMARS does not reach everywhere but still... Also there are cases that foreigners living there were forcibly conscripted to Russian army, not just Ukrainians but others too, although maybe they would not do it to sb from Western Europe. It has happened with citizens of Tajikistan or other smaller -stans of ex USSR

Dasvidanya is usually reserved for farewells in elegant formal contexts. To say ciao to a driver, the farewell das vercher, is more commonly used.
