  • The official video for 'Tomland' by Ross Valory from the forthcoming album "All Of The Above," Directed by Michael Cotten. Cover art by Prairie Prince. 2024 OID Music, LLC ©.
"This is Tomland from my upcoming album "All Of The Above," but the next song is going to be completely different, and the one after that is significantly different and on and on and on... the genre is no genre, so be unprepared for a very eclectic album! There's something for everybody there.
I dedicate this song to the memory of Tom Size, an accomplished and dedicated audio engineer here in the Bay Area. Tom provided me with a lot of encouragement and inspiration to pursue my own music and that's why the song is dedicated to him.... moving on in his absence and continuing on in his spirit." - Ross
    Ross Valory - Bass Guitar
Eric Levy - Piano, Organ, Clavinet
    Prairie Prince - Drums
    Miles Schon - Guitars

I’m not one to comment, but Ross IS indeed the boss! I was fortunate enough to tour with the Journey guys a handful of years and, trust me, the above comment could not be further from the truth. Ross is a no ego down to earth dude. I was also fortunate enough to track a few ideas in hotel rooms across the country for him which developed into solo works I assume. Him and his wife were second siblings, parents and friends on the road. This music is straight from a bay boys soul and Miles? If u can play like ur “dad” and be a humble guy you’ve MORE THAN surpassed ur genetics my brotha. Great work guys! Travis

I first listened to the track with eyes closed and I loved where the music took me. Then I watched the video and was taken away again through the amazing visuals.
All in all, this is a brilliant piece of music. Ross’s bass is wonderfully alive and the rest of the musicians on the track are phenomenal. I love Tomland!

Absolutely awesome! The feel and vibe definitely recalls early Journey but with a much more contemporary and visceral sound... I love it! Been a fan my whole life and as a detail-oriented musician myself, I appreciate how meticulously this album was apparently crafted... I'm all in for the ride and this is certainly THE way drop your first solo album...like a boss!

A great way to honor a friend! Others already mentioned but I like the modern touch on your bass tone and the old school B3 organ. (I’m not familiar with Eric Leyv, had to look him up.) And having Prairie Prince from the way way back Journey days play drums and Neal’s son, Miles Schon play guitar. Looking forward to more.

Awesome, Ross! any chance you can link to less-compressed version of video? Michael's images are brilliant, tho YT manages bandwidth to a prohibitive extent. Your composition and tone here are absolutely stellar!

Hey Ross. Been a fan of yours since seeing you in 1973 in Central Park in NYC, when a band named Journey replaced Joe Cocker that day. You're bass playing was outstanding and melodic that day and has remained so for 50 years. Ive seen you play countless times with Journey, being a main reason why Journey sounded so good. Now this. I heard Tomland and the hair on my neck stood up. Congratulations Ross, what a beautiful song man. Thanks for the 50 years of amazing music.

This makes me Truly Happy to hear Mr. Valory is playing again.. "Them 2 Numbnuts" are sòòò self absorbed, so they are willing to do anything to keep a sinking ship afloat. You've been the Backbone of the band but the unsung Hero in the end.. Respect 2 U Sir !

It sounds good but unfinished - like a demo that they forgot the vocals on. A good vocalist would tear this up, and it is desperately in need of melody, like most of the album. Vallory should have talked Steve Perry into singing on this just to piss off the other guys.

  • @dez1989
    @dez1989 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ross, I'm not going to beat a dead horse. I just wanted to say that you and Steve Smith got a raw deal, and the fans see it.
Neil has become a little Napoleon. He has gone crazy and more greedy than ever.
It was hard enough to get over Steve Perry and accepting Arnel. But many fans have accepted him. However, having yourself, Steve Smith, Jonathan Cain and Neil Schon, that was the iteration people love. I'd say Greg Rolle could fit right in also. However, Journey has become it's own tribute band. Without those core members, it's no longer Journey. I'm talking about the music, the band. I'm not talking about any vocalist. Arnel can pull of a younger Steve Perry. With the members I'm including here, if you closed your eyes and just listened with your ears. Not with your eyes where you see someone other than Perry, you could hear the Journey we loved. Since Neil became whipped (by his wife) and greedy, because of his wife, he sees himself as Journey. One man doesn't make a great band. He is one of many who leave their mark on the music.
Im sorry that you got shafted. I can say with ease, your solo project is great! Tom is a great song! Your bass sounds so much better! You have a midrange growl along with a nasty, great sounding top end grind! I wish you would have had that sound while in Journey. I will say this about your sound. Your sound during the Escape period (the Ovation Magnum) became an iconic sound.
I miss seeing and hearing you in Journey. Same with Steve Smith. I always went to see you guys except during Raised on Radio, because of obvious reasons. Today i will not give my money to the little Napoleon and his hired guns. Without you, Steve and the rest, its no longer Journey. I will not pay the kind of money they want to come and see this tribute band.
God bless you! Thank you for the music! Please continue to put out your music.
