So just for the record, it turns out that there was indeed a design flaw in the frame that allowed the living linkage to come into contact with the frame - exactly where you can see mine cracked. Alex glad you’re good after that crash! It looked like everyone was having a blast and l love your passion for the trail despite the break (frame), even though it was only the “Half-Chilada”
Well. Incidents like this are PRIMO opportunities to reinforce the brand. Had Spot said, “hey. Bikes break, we’re going to fedex one to Moab so you can ride it the next day.” I think everyone would have forgotten about the break. Why? Because we all know MTB’s are not immune to that kind of break. But this guy decided to try to explain it away, and try to convince us Spot bikes are somehow better than the most expensive bikes out there. Truth is we all know that’s marketing slick BS. On a personal note, I’ve never heard of Spot, but I do now. Sad actually.
Glad you are ok bud! Equipment failing is what caused my shoulder injury. It's scary when it's out of your control. I'm glad you came out ok. Definitely could have been way worse.

Glad you're okay for the most part, could have been far worse. My friend snapped his aluminum frame and it basically became a dagger to his leg. For a couple thousand dollar bike it seems you're not guaranteed consistency no matter what material.
Really glad you're OK! That looked like it could have been so much worse than it was. I'm 33 and have just gotten into mountain biking the last couple of years. I bought a Trek Slash 8 and love it! 2:20 "start off *Yeezy* " As to what let to the break, looks like it was pulled against the grain of the carbon, i.e the weaker way, and when your pedals landed in the rocks they stopped but the bike and you kept going cause of momentum and caused that black pivot above the break + the pedals below it to just snap the tube in half right there cause of pure force.
Far out mate! That could've been so much worse. Glad you are okay and hope you get better soon. Keep up the awsome videos. My son and I love your channel. LFRHGS!
The spot where the frame broke doesn't even look like a weak spot, crazy! I see so much carbon carnage so often that I don't want to buy a carbon frame, I'll probably stick with aluminium.
I know i am replying to a 2 year comment, but the SNAP on steering bar caused the crash.I guess he heard the rattling sound that the cracked frame was making but how the heck the ENDURO suspension gone insta SNAP?
Wow what a wreck! Glad your OK! I had a similar break on an aluminum Mountain Cycle CXS . It broke just below the rocker arm on the seat tube coming off a small drop. I also felt both pedals hit the ground and then flipped over driving my handle bar into the ground destroying a brake lever and a bar end.
I broke a Giant NRS2 frame (aluminum) back in 2004 and the way the company handled the situation made me a customer for life. I am on my third Giant purchase since that happened. Currently riding a 2014 Giant Trance 27.5" and will probably purchase a new Gaint next year. It also helped that my warrranty rep was Perry Kramer aka "PK Ripper" for those of us that grew up BMX in the 80's. Glad you are OK, not looking good from a PR standpoint for Spot.

I had seen the preview of this you shared on Patreon so I knew it was coming but damn. That was still so hard to watch. I'm so glad you were able to walk away from that as it clearly could have gone so much worse. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will see this and it will reinforce their fears of carbon too. And, I think, for good reason as well. LFRHGS!
Glad you're OK Alex! Funny how we always laugh and joke after wrecks like that. Glad it isn't the 5C, but at the same time I feel more confident in my aluminum bike choice.
Glad you're OK, you had an incline something was wrong throughout the video! Keep on keeping on, get back in the saddle and shred rest of your time in Moab!
I'm new to your channel but have been watching for 2 days now. Great stuff dude Moab looks AMAZING. That wreck was gnardog I'm glad you were ok and able to share the footage !!!
I was just poking fun a little , would love to have those reserve rims on my Bronson, but only because of the lifetime warranty. If I ever need to use the warranty on my frame, might just end up with a carbon replacement...
Not sure how you can qualify that statement, check out broken bike 88 jordan boostmaster etc. Lots of aluminum frames snapping on a cased jump. Check out Santa Cruz videos on direct comparisons to frame testing. Metal fatigue gives aluminum bikes a "shelf life" as well. I ride an al Trance, and love it. But had I the money for a lighter, stiffer frame......
I just love Mountain Bikers. It's all fun and banter till someone eats shit. Then all the crew do what ever it takes to get their buddy home. then it's beer time. :)
We all know we won’t be buying a “Spot” bike because of their EXTREMELY DEFENSIVE comment and also their quality control. Don’t point fingers when it’s YOUR FAULT.
@@markobosnjakovic4952 Some dude that called himself the director of Spot bikes came here all puffed up like a fighting cock wanting to pin the blame on Alex. The subs *_REALLY_* gave his ass what for. Now I'm guessing he deleted his comment.
Damn boy! Glad you survived that high speed crash relatively well. Equipment failures like that are super, super scary. Especially at speed. I’ve been a shop rat for a number of years. Have seen my share of broken bikes. Lots of different brands, steel, aluminum, carbon, roadies, Mtbs, cruisers, doesn’t matter. Some of em are gonna break. You handled it well. Went with it. Rolled.
So I'm gonna be the guy who says it. Never been in a fight in my life. And I don't care if he's a "guide" and a "super cool guy" but if someone lectured me like that after that crash I may punch him
From how hard he defended Spot here in the comments, he's likely a damn shill for them. He may have been chill before, but that's fair weather friendship for you.
Glad your ok brotha! As for cracking frames it happens, just cracked a carbon BMC frame on XC trails! Their are numerous reasons why it could of cracked, bad carbon layup, setup, impact, etc..... Keep it rubber side down and keep shredding🤘🏼
I'm guessing that it's the design of the frame. Impacts putting heavy pressure on the middle of the seat tube. Probably just do to they way they made the rear suspension linkage
Having broken a few cf frames, the sound at 3:56 indicated a partial break. Often the tube will partially break and give you the opportunity to ride home gently. I would have said you need to pay better attention, but the crash taught you that well enough.
Alex! I don't think this would've happened if you had the DVO suspension! last time you were here , brian had his DVO on and his carbon frame never broke... in all seriousness, glad you got out of that one safe, hard to stay stoked if youre out for the year.... but then again ,we could get a REDEMPTION '19 series! LFRHGS
Don’t think it has anything to do with suspension, the frame was compromised probably from the factory, it was just a matter of time for it to break, Blame SPOT, I’m pretty sure after watching this that now I’ll not even consider a bike from them.
What I've learned. If something doesn't feel right it's worth taking that 60 second to check the tire pressure, spoke tension, rim, frame etc. Regardless of material

glad to see you're all right and your enthusiasm was still great. good to see you had great friends who were caring and asked if you were okay straight away. LF RH GS
I see broke and carbon in the title and I know it's going to be good
XD
I'm a beginning mountain biker and the lesson I took away from this is when you feel something is not right with your bike, you're usually right.
Whoa, one of my worst nightmares! Glad you are (mostly) ok, as much as we enjoyed your Redemption '17 videos, really don't want to see Redemption part deux! Keep charging but stay safe out there!
Redemption ‘18: Electric Boogaloo
Redemption II: The Redemptioning
I'm glad your ok. As a NYC paramedic... that's awesome you had some medics riding too and were able to assess you... cause you could have been in bad shape.
Glad you are fine, the bike can be replaced.
Andy Raven bike is more important, bodies are insured
@@digvt yeah..
Crazy,I’m glad you’re upright and still stoked lol outside of the current issue at hand. Life must go on..it demands whether we want it too or not.
Glad you are ok. Could you imagine what could have happened if that had failed when you were headed towards the porcupine edge? Eeek!
Glad you're OK, you had an incline something was wrong throughout the video! Keep on keeping on, get back in the saddle and shred rest of your time in Moab!
Dude! Glad you're relatively ok. A little banged up but you'll heal. Way to keep a positive attitude!
I'm new to your channel but have been watching for 2 days now. Great stuff dude Moab looks AMAZING. That wreck was gnardog I'm glad you were ok and able to share the footage !!!
Oh snap! (pun intended) glad you're ok! Tempted to validate my Alum bike purchase, but I wont jump to any conclusions...
Aluminum bikes break too. Check out Danny Macs testing Santa Cruz carbon rims. Might restore some faith in the material.
I was just poking fun a little , would love to have those reserve rims on my Bronson, but only because of the lifetime warranty. If I ever need to use the warranty on my frame, might just end up with a carbon replacement...
Aluminum does break, yes, but with a lot more warning.
Above and beyond all the drama, lol, glad you survived and are mostly ok. Keep up the great work!
Sudden colour grading at 3:52
I saw that too, I was like "holy color correction" , I doesn't look that bad it makes the trail pop a little more I don't mind it
oh god, I done messed up
Nah, not at all, draws attention to the "moment"
The Singletrack Sampler it's actually not that bad it makes the colors pop a little bit more
Thought that, that was when he was gonna mess up
Glad your ok and sense of humor is in tact.! That slow-mo is sick...!!! The entire edit is bad ass.!
Damn, that was scary AF. Can't believe it just broke like that. Glad you're doing ok.
yo thanks blindstuff 👊
Pretty normal with bad design.
Just pulled the trigger on a new Spot bike.
Thanks for helping me make my decision.
@@2scoopsofpoop
Guess they still had enough suckers to rip off. Like OP here.
bought a shirt! keep riding hard my dude
Glad your ok, dude. Saw minor injuries on you, and hopefully your hip hurting isn't serious. Keep up the positive attitude.
Hope you feel better man! You fell hard! Love your channel!
thanks Evan!
????????
@@markobosnjakovic4952
Some dude that called himself the director of Spot bikes came here all puffed up like a fighting cock wanting to pin the blame on Alex. The subs *_REALLY_* gave his ass what for. Now I'm guessing he deleted his comment.
@@DinnerForkTongue was looking for the comment. Just saw Alex's update. Insane.
So glad your ok Alex! Live Free! Ride Hard!! and get stoked!!!!
"Drop!..." Famous last word
And I don't care if he's a "guide" and a "super cool guy" but if someone lectured me like that after that crash I may punch him
yeah....the whole 'you were messin' around thing" would not have gone well for me. Of course we are messing around, we are on f'n mountain bikes!
Ride bSIDe ha that should have been his answer "of course I was fucking around!"
yeah that guy is a douche
From how hard he defended Spot here in the comments, he's likely a damn shill for them. He may have been chill before, but that's fair weather friendship for you.
Glad your ok brotha! As for cracking frames it happens, just cracked a carbon BMC frame on XC trails! Their are numerous reasons why it could of cracked, bad carbon layup, setup, impact, etc..... Keep it rubber side down and keep shredding🤘🏼
FUUUUUUUUUUUU......... Glad you are ok dude.. 😮
Glad you are okay dude, I broke my Santa Cruz two months ago in a very similar jump. Heal fast so you can hit the trails again soon! Keep on riding.
Second Spot I've seen crack at the same place on that frame. Carbon on that frame made of Graham crackers.
I'm guessing that it's the design of the frame. Impacts putting heavy pressure on the middle of the seat tube. Probably just do to they way they made the rear suspension linkage
Jeez. Glad your ‘ok’ and able to get out! Very scary when you’re so far from home. Sending healing thoughts and good vibes from the East Coast!
Hey Alex’s mum 😂
Having broken a few cf frames, the sound at 3:56 indicated a partial break. Often the tube will partially break and give you the opportunity to ride home gently. I would have said you need to pay better attention, but the crash taught you that well enough.
Bruv that was crazy! Glad you're alright, man's never trusting carbon again...
Will Greenfield Its not carbon! It's the process of the lay up.. Its spot I'm not sure I trust
Will Greenfield just want to say, Mad respect for your videos👏
stem and bars should always be aluminum.
Trevor Bohnsack Other brands of carbon frames break, as do alloy frames.
Will Greenfield aluminum is da way to go! Atleas thats what i can afford hahaha
Dude it is super impressive that u can keep ur wind while talking and peddling like u do. Thats some serious cardio
LFRHGS
Naa
Don’t think it has anything to do with suspension, the frame was compromised probably from the factory, it was just a matter of time for it to break, Blame SPOT, I’m pretty sure after watching this that now I’ll not even consider a bike from them.
yeah I was being a bit sarcastic with the suspension comment, its an inside joke with Alex and Brians channels
Man! My heart jumped when you fell! Glad you're ok! Great group of guys too. Other than the crash looks like a heck of a great time!
Hi Alex's Mom.
Lol when he started talking about your shoulder I was like, NOT THE SHOULDER. NOT AGAIN!
Hold my beer and watch this sh•••t
What I've learned. If something doesn't feel right it's worth taking that 60 second to check the tire pressure, spoke tension, rim, frame etc. Regardless of material
Damn, that was awful to see. Glad you are ok though.
I don't know what just fell harder - you or the credibility of Spot's carbon frames. Glad youre ok Alex!
With the verdict of this fail being caused by bad design, I say Spot's rep took the nastiest tumble.
