I adored this game as a kid. The quality was just incredible from beginning to end, on such a limited and modest device. Thank you, I had a great time reliving old memories.
I have been a pianist for 25 years. But I hate listening to piano music - the reason is that people play the instrument in very limited ways. They always play an overdone classical piece, some corny jazz, a decent cover, or their own "compositions/improvisations" that abuse the sustain pedal & common chord progressions and play extremely safe. This is the second arrangement of yours I have heard. Your playing is the first I have EVER come across to actually showcase the piano's versatility. It has a depth & variety that outmatches many of the great (classical, jazz, etc.) pianists I listen to today. Your tone is superb. Your dynamics truly surprise me. You use the sustain pedal like a spice instead of the main dish. You are comfortable with silence in your arrangements. I know how long it takes to come up with the fingerings you have. You have introduced me to techniques (like your "echo" technique - amazing!) I never would have thought of myself. Your virtuosic technique is extremely high level. Your articulations are faithful to the original music (this is something people ALMOST NEVER do - they take extreme liberties with note lengths and attacks, and it really bothers me; you can only control those 2 things on a piano!!!) Lastly, you take extreme care to edit your videos well. I know it might not be much, but I am really grateful for your work and understand how hard it is to come up with & record these arrangements. You are doing a generational service to the instrument and I will reference your playing as a standard for how far one can take the piano from now on. Thank you.
Your words fills me with happiness, thank you so much! It is always very rewarding to receive compliments from a fellow pianist who knows the possibilities of the instrument. I really like the way you describe my piano playing. It is true that I make a point of respecting the original works as much as possible, while trying to energize them with the timbre of an acoustic instrument. The "echo" technique - specific to these 8-bit games to enrich the sound without consuming much more resources - fortunately works well on the piano on these compositions and is not insurmountable to obtain here. Thanks again and long live the piano and video game music!
Continue.
this game was a big part of my childhood and I did actually shed a tear for the 'underwater course' which is to my mind one of the most beautiful themes composed for a nintendo game - which is saying something! I loved the relocation of the pouncer course theme to the stove canyon/teacup segment, it felt very fitting there when the tone becomes more puzzling. The themes for parsley woods and syrup castle were also among my favourites - these were gorgeously played, with a fascinating and fun video to match. thanks for sharing this with us - wonderful.
Thank you very much for this glowing review. The music of Underwater Course is also the one that marked me the most, and the one that immediately comes to mind when I think of Wario Land. I actually allowed myself for this medley to move the Pouncer Course theme a little later compared to its appearance in the game, essentially for the sake of musical coherence of general sequence, tempos and tones.
I only really managed to play Wario Land 2 and 4, oddly enough. Not sure why the original and 3 were both unavailable to me. '94 was my birth year though so I guess I was just too young for the original... and 2 was definitely a struggle for my young mind to understand the branching paths you could take on your adventures. 4 was a brilliant package and while I had a copy of the game that had a fully completed save file, I eventually managed to fully complete the game for myself (on normal difficulty) and know that my own effort allowed me to restore the princess of the pyramid to her true form... or whatever that ending was about, and hey, the important thing was driving off into the sunset with all that hard-earned treasure.
Well congratulations! And I'm sure that today your adult mind would appreciate the first and third episodes. You would probably make quick work of the first one, which is not very difficult.
When I bought this from the pile of used games as a kid, I definitely didn't expect it to be as fun as it was! It's charming, but not nearly as charming as these performances! Can't wait to see what your next project is :)
Fun and charming, that describes the game very well indeed. The sound ambiance has a lot to do with it I think. So I am so honored that my performance also receives this last descriptive term, I thank you very warmly. It obviously encourages me to surpass myself on the next projects. I have many and hope that at least one of them will please you.
Absolutely incredible, you did this gem of a soundtrack and game justice! The Boss Battle Theme stood out to me as my favourite rendition, very nice job!
I watched each individual video upload of this whole medley, and I'm here for the whole thing together! You have so much energy when you play and the edits made in the video to cut in scenes from the game are so fun!
I'm always a little afraid of boring the audience when publishing medleys, because it's redundant with individual pieces or, even more so in this case, the mini-medleys already published. So I'm very happy that you like this one and I thank you for this very positive review.
Thank you a lot for sharing your arrangements for free! I'm particularly impressed with you making easy versions of them too :) (maybe the text in the video description could mention their existence). I definitely was intimidated by what you actually play :). I'm impressed by your skills and results. I'm by no means an expert, but I haven't seen video game piano renditions with such versability before. It broadened my horizons. @marcusstoica hits the nail with his comment and I couldn't say it any better. I particularly enjoyed the Secret of Mana's Prophecy and Angel's Fear :). It would be great if you could record again some of the older MM2 and MM3 songs (just random request :)).
You are absolutely right, I should have mentioned the presence of simplified sheet music in the description. I modified this one thanks to your relevant comment. And yes, it's true that the audio and visual quality of my Mega Man 2 and 3 recordings of is very bad, and these musics would really deserve to be re-recorded. But it requires a colossal amount of work that I will only think of doing when I have better place and better equipment, which I hope in a few years. Thank you for your stimulating comment!
Do you have a Patreon or any other way to accept payments? Someone as talented and professional as you, playing my favorite game music on my favorite instrument, feels like a dream come true. I really hope you keep going, and to show my support, I’d like to give you some money as a token of my appreciation!!!
Thank you Vinni! 🙏🙂 Your kind words and encouragement are the best way to show me your support. Be sure I'll keep going as long as I can move my fingers. ;)
I would love to hear a Tecmo Super Bowl piano cover (either the NES or SNES version). It might be a short medley of themes, but they are very nostalgic to me.
That's a actually rom hack to turn it in a gbc game, there are a bunch of gameboy hacks like that... which you wont get from Nintendo cause they hate mods apparently.
I hesitated but finally made the choice to present the images of this modded version in the background, which I sometimes reworked myself. I did tests with the black and white version but it really didn't look good. I also regret that Nintendo itself didn't offer a colorized version of the game , as it did for the second episode.
Loved this game to death growing up, played it almost every day. Thanks for giving its amazing soundtrack such care and attention!
Ryoji Yoshitomi and Kozue Ishikawa gave us a great OST and I really enjoyed diving into it again.

I wish that Nintendo would finally put this game on Switch Online. I would love to play this again!
That would be cool indeed.
Seriously! They have wario land 3 on there, but I just can't get into it. The original wario land was so great!
@@glennwwicksSame. It just lacks the charm of the first one for me.
I appreciate you putting it all together into one video. Effort gets a like.
Thanks!
@@GabbPiano You're really good at this. I wouldn't mind you having more subscribers.
Bravo!! Thank you for this brilliantly performed blast from the past.
Ur so good at piano :) love the videos Gabb
That's so nice of you, thank you!
I've never actually played this one but it sounds superb, Gabb!
Le voyage peut reprendre ! Merci maestro !! 🎉
This medley is amazing❤
Love wario games
Thank you!! So do I ! ;)

We love Wario in this piano household!
Well played! Love the dynamics for such a silly game. Seems like alot of piano clusters! Your technique is great, keep playing stuff, subbed
Thank you very much, CleanTactix! Yes, the plated half-tone intervals bring some pep and reinforce the burlesque side of the character.
