Rusty Medares is an All Time Cane who was robbed of a great pro career by a cheap shot that wrecked his knee in the Arizona game. Gino Torretta had the athletic ability of an out shape 45 year old man.
To this day, this is the ONLY game I can remember where sports writers rooted FOR Miami, due to Houston's penchant for running up scores on opponents like SMU.
Bermuda Triangle. I was on the field for a Cowboys/Giants game in Dallas. Jesse Armstead was on the sideline. I yelled Jesse numerous times…He ignored my call. The second I yelled Bermuda Triangle he pumped his fist, came over and shook my hand and took a photo with me.
After losing twice in '90, I thought maybe UM would fall back. Went to this game to see UH give them trouble . . WRONG! Look at how fast Miami's D is. I think this the best all around team of the early Champ teams they had. The LB's, DL depth, OL group, Wr's and best K.
I remember this game. Knowing Coach…he’s gonna be mixing up some of these packages. Nothing like good old fashion “smash mouth” run up the gut football. This season is going to be special. Haven’t felt this way since the turn of the century. Go Canes forever!
After an opening win over La Tech, Lee Corso declared David Klinger was the Heisman winner. Then this game. And Houston ended up 4-7. Lee Corso is the perfect example of the bigger a moron you are, the better your job security.
It's funny how bias clouds your judgement. The further away you get from it the more evident it was that Gino wasn't that good of a quarterback. The critics said he win the Heisman because he was the qb of the #1 team in the nation. They were right lol.
Thank you for posting this one. I was obsessed with Klingler and the R&S. They were good in 90 and just missed out on the cotton bowl. Brought everyone back in 91 and got smoked by the canes. I was so distraught.
@@keithswafford8786 it’s just as bad now. I have some old 1989-1990 Houston cougar all-22 film I posted on TH-cam and John Jenkins himself had it removed for copyright. Anything with the words run and shoot gets flagged much of the time.
Wow I'm so glad I found a shortened version of this game. I was there and took my little brother , I noticed him crying when they took the field ..people really have no idea how loud and rowdy that place was. Especially for night games . That stadium literally shook , especially the closed in end zone which if I remember was the student section. They literally opened the gate and if you had a ticket in the student section there was no assigned seats just kind of every man for himself . Paying 20$ to park in someone's yard in little Havana. Knowing damn well you were going to be blocked in. . good times.
Can you make a playlist for Miami hurricanes games? And if you have more hurricanes content when are u going to release?? Thanks for the content I appreciate it

Exactly! Rusty is an all time great and one of my all time favorite Canes!
Man ya Torreta was horrible. LB Darrin Smith was a pro bowl player for Dallas Cowboys won a couple super bowls
Miami killed the wishbone and the run and shoot

Exactly
That Miami LB corps was fantastic. Definitely mentionable in the best ever LB unit ever.

Shapiro🥴🥴🥴
No fcking doubt. Michael Barrow was a monster in college. Didn't Bob Marleys son play 2nd string? Son was like 5'8 190 at mlb.
@@primarylenders1663 Rohan Marley was an outside linebacker but yes he was small but had the heart of a lion!
@@primarylenders1663 I went high school with Michael Barrow 💪great guy
#5 K. Williams was possessed in this game
Remember this game vividly! Miami took Houston to the shed and whipped their butts!
Rusty medarious was absurd.
Very true. Not only was he a rare talent but he embodied the heart and soul of these Miami teams.
One of my favorite all time Canes!
Jesus, what a BEATING this was.
The definition of taking somebody to the shed.
Mercy.
This is back when Miami had those mobster quarterbacks. Torreta, Testaverde, Costa. I always wondered if Frank Gambino was the recruiting coordinator.

Welcome back SteelBuck 6
Lol.. yeah right. Miami will maybe win 6 games. MAYBE
Klingler’s footwork was really poor.
Miami overwhelmed the Cougars. I’ve been told many Houston players were spitting up blood after the game.
Miami LB were a stud unit. Barrow maybe was best in college but Armstead was just a beast in NFL
Kevin Williams had great speed. And I swear Gino had a great back foot throw
🗑 he just threw hail marys but we had speed demons at wr

This is back when Miami played Hi-De-Ho jingle song during the game. Great inner city vibe.

Man, that crowd.
Toretta was 🗑 he would just throw up about 10 airballs a game hoping to get lucky by his wr lol😂😂😂😂
This game was also known as the feeding frenzy game. Lots of spitting up blood from the Houston players

The R&S and the secrecy cult around it from this time is very interesting. Id love to see a doc done on Mouse Davis's time with the Lions.

You right it was general admission not the student section
The day the run and shoot died!!!
I’ve never seen so many penalties. Both teams
Houston had a chance for about 1/2 a quarter 🎉
The Canes owned most of the 80s and 90s
Thanks for posting this game, as well as all that you have in the past. All of them are great to watch!

The West Endzone was always general admission seating but the student section was on the home sideline near the opposite endzone.
All 3 Miami LB's were NFL caliber. The D was insane. Too bad Gino was hot trash aa a QB. Put Walsh on this team and they destroy everyone.
How did Gino win the Heisman? Or how do you think, Allen Fitch?
Man, so glad to see you posting again! Love your work!

I actually thought Houston would win this game.
I think the game MVP waa the head ref. He had more screen time than anyone else.
It was somewhat of a sloppy game at times.
7 flags on the Canes in the first half
Awww the glory days lol
Excellent vid. Glad to see you're still at it!
I passed up a 2 yr ride to UH to attend full ride at Mcneese University. Just wonder....Fullback 1991
Speed on defense. 2023 Canes have SOME… but not enough at LB. We will see. CANES!!!!
Man, the officials were busy… like a PAC Ten crew
Like a swarm of Bees 🧡 💚
