The attack on anime for not being progressive enough because its made by Japanese people for Japanese people is the kind of entitled those same people accuse everyone else of being. Imagine if someone said that about African or South American media.
Excellent point Vee. The key point on how the US 'won' the Cold War was its Soft Power through the export of its entertainment. (like Japan with anime and manga and South Korea with K Pop and K Drama but at much bigger global scale.) In particular in the 80s, 90s, 2000s up to 2012, US was 'cool' and US culture was 'cool' and there WAS much good will feelings generally towards the US from everyday people around the world, despite the more open wars and regime change US lead and engineered - the bombing war of Yugoslavia, the Collation of the Willing invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, the secret support to 'moderate rebels' in Libya (which was the final wake up call to China and Russia), the US supported proxy war in Syria, US attempted regime change in Venezuela etc etc etc etc etc ect (there is alot up to current Ukr@ine and Isr@3l). People around the world in general still had good will towards US inspite of its overseas um, 'adventurism' because US exported good entertainment, US Soft Power - US Culture. Around 2012 onwards Woke Ideology started to corrupt and take hold of US Entertainment. In US comic books first, then slowly Table Top and Board games, Sci Fi and Fantasy Books, Video Games, then more main stream with TV, Streaming and Movies. The Hand of Black Rock and ESG and the top down social engineering agenda (force behaviours) which was really just a con and gimmick for Black Rock, Vanguard and the like to be king makers by forcing a 'score' and controlling the 'score' thereby picking winners and losers in the stock market. The consequence of Woke Ideology which grip US Culture, that US still exports as its Soft Power, is that its attractiveness (Woke) is rejected widely, globally. For much of the world, it was like being at a club when suddenly the music suks and the drinks suks and you suddenly notice more and more how dirty the club is. US own-goal of embracing Woke and pushing Woke to the rest of the World, which is not attractive or 'cool', made people around the world less sympathetic to the US and made US actions globally more visible. (the music and the drinks are not distracting as much). Example US' insistence on US led 'Rules Based Order' to the rest of the world with US unconditional support of Isr@el actions in gaza as an illustration of what the 'Rules Based Order' means. Without the 'coolness' of US Culture, as US Soft Power, with its own-goal of embracing and pushing of Woke (leave kids alone), this open the window for leaders from the rest of the world (Global South/Global Majority) to much easier push for a 'decoupling', which their people are now more receptive (as oppose to the 80s, 90s 2000s when everyday people around the world look much favourbly to US and US Culture and want to be more close to US). And so the rise of the Mutli-Polar World away from the US, with the rising of BRICS or the Shanghai Cooperation Organization SCO or the Belt and Road Initiative BRI. Had the US not embraced Woke (thanks to Black Rock and the like who just wanted to control the stock markets by forcing a score which they control - ESG), Had the US not embraced Woke, its Soft Power, the export of US Culture, would remain strong, 'cool', attractive, and would make leaders of the rest of the world - the Global South/Global Majority, harder to sell to their public/people the IDEA of breaking away from the US. US embrace of Woke in its entertainment and overall culture HAS long term consequence Geo Politically for the next 50 - 100 years. Even if US can purge Woke tomorrow, US regaining good will from people around the world through Soft Power, export of US culture, will take at least 2 decades. Once you drive people off from your club, its harder to bring them back, even if you bring back good music and drinks. So yea...The Law of Unintended Consequences - The Rise of Woke in the US helped ease the Rise of BRICS and the Multi-Polar World.
I’m genuinely happy this game is going to fail, Ubisoft needs to learn a lesson, but they obviously won’t and they’ll continue to butcher the Assassins Creed IP like they announced the other day. They made this statement because of the threat of the Japanese Diet possibly censoring this game in some form, and/or the 15% stock drop after the investor call. Sounds like a pathetic attempt to stop the bleeding. I wonder how many pre-orders have been canceled so far.
And even then only because Japanese moved on from their sh-tty game and started complaining about the other things Lockley and Atkinson were falsely reporting, as well as their Japanese vommie "friends"...
Oh, they're not really sorry. Judging from statement, what they want to stop is for people to stop looking into and discrediting their sources. This whole apology raises a lot of suspicion on that Hirayama guy. It's possible that he was hired by Ubi for PR purposes to look like an authoritative source about Yasuke because "hurr durr, a Japanese scholar said it so shut it". If Ubishit wanted to be accurate, they should have checked how Japanese historical dramas set in the Sengoku period are shown. Even there, while some liberties are done, those dramas still keep everything period accurate like how Japanese is spoken at that time and how accents differ from region to region, outfits, weapons, and even architecture is depicted accurately. We didn't need to look far since Shogun did this as Hiro Sanada was involved in many japanese historical dramas and made sure to apply it. Even Fumi Nikaido acted in one historical drama, playing the actual historical character that became the inspiration for Lady Ochiba. Well, look how people reacted to Shogun, it was positive. That's why in Ghost of Tsushima, the katana is referred to as the Tachi in the Japanese dub as the katana at its present form, has not yet been made. Also, the japanese dub also used terms that are period accurate at the time of the Mongol Invasions.
I remember ironically certain people saying why was there not diversity in that Shogun series too,I'm not joking either. There was talk of what they're doing here with shadows for quite some time and no one was surprised when it happened.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu I read about that and can't help but facepalm since these clowns don't know or don't care that feudal Japan was pretty much homogenous in many areas except in Hakata, Kobe and if I'm not mistaken, Osaka, due to trade.

They've been doing this for quite a while actually never to this extent or extreme but little bits and pieces here and there. The most obvious early example I can think of was in syndicate when they decided to take a character that to do business was forced to dress as a man even though they were women to the obvious modern analogy. The last couple games have really been doubling down on adding modern crap that made no sense besides pandering. Ubisoft needs to be cleansed or shut down their choice.
When one country disrespects another country's culture that becomes an international diplomatic incident. I don't see why a private company should be exempt from this expectation. For example: If Poland can use the Witcher 3 in a positive manner in its diplomatic approach then something similar can also be done negatively.
Also, regarding point of "creating AC in feudal Japan has been a long-cherished dream" - it is such a blatant lie its insulting. Fans have been BEGGING Ubisoft to make AC in Japan ever since AC2 came out, which was almost 15 years ago, but not only ubi ignored them, but at one point said that Japan setting is among the 3 least preferable, with Egypt and WW2 being the other two (and yes, they made Origins after that). This is especially hypocritical since they even made AC valhalla - assassins with vikings, who were famous for open fight and considered stealth kills as one of the worst disgraces in their religion, but the homeland of ninjas? No can't do. Only after Tsushima came out, Ubi suddenly remembered that fans requested this setting since forever, and now play this fake pretentious song of "we are SO excited to make this, we wanted to do this for years!". I'm still amazed by the amount of people believing anything Ubisoft has said. They've done nothing but employ the usual people who will tell them what they want to hear and make the pieces fit. A bunch of so-called scholars and debunked historians cosplaying as Japanese people. And the disingenuous attitudes by people just constantly making it about the fact you've got a black character. Yeah forget the fact that it's in Japan during a period of time when Japan was only trading with the Dutch for like a thousand years. Yeah there's a perfectly good explanation why you would have a black person who is anything besides a sideshow act. These people are freaking delusional.

Pushing American culture so hard to diversify a foreign nation with zero interest in your ideology is such a massive no-no if they ever wanted it to sell in Japan.

Those games were always marketed as factual representations of History, and about the first half of them, minus the Assassins vs Templars secret conspiracy war, and the Isu precursors, actually were. The way they did it is by sliding the fictional stuff into the gaps of the historical records. And while later games went took more creative liberties and went for pop culture references over historical representation, they didn't completely fuck history, at least most of the time.

AC Shadows is such a mess research wise. I know there was a grifter going around making shit up. But that doesn’t explain why every village has a Tori gate or why the Japanese lettering on the merch intended to be sent to actual Japanese speakers was jibberish. Or why they stole a re-enactment groups flag. Or why the Japanese AC game was the game where they chose to do a different ethnicity MC. Even though they’d never done a male Asian character before and presumably there would be people looking forward to such a thing. It just seems like they thought that they could do whatever they wanted and no one would care cause it’s an established IP. Like they thought they didn’t have to do any work and could just piss about instead of doing any research.
As most of you guys already know by now, Thomas Lockley fabricated separate version of history book, Japanese ver and rest of world ver if Ubisoft make proper Apology to Japan, Ubi will potentially lose huge chunk of customer's interest in main market if not Apology to relatively small market Japan, this all hypo get out of control and every one in the world will know what problem behind I think they try hard to find sort of midway, makes upset both side but not going extreme to go over yield point if that was the reason behind of this half arsed letter, they actually did good job.
Except they are lying to Japanese and rest of us. Telling us Japanese don't really care only we do and telling Japanese they are the only ones who cares. We all know they are doing that.
Wait consultants are supposed to make games not offensive? That's their work? Why I learned that only now?! I thought they supposed to leach and male up imaginary problems
Yep. There’s a big chunk of ahistorical creativity involved with the AC franchise, sure. And even the idea of a gay samurai…ehh, i dont want to be forced into such gameplay, and tbh the AC Odyssey game allowed you to pick between male and female, and have relationships from either, or not. Indeed, there is a well-known and documented subculture of Samurai who considered it ‘sissy’ behaviour to lie with a woman, and would often in stead, choose young boys, as it was seen a a more masculine thing to do at the time. But a black samurai. Nope. And sorry, there’s enough tomfoolery with Ubisoft between Eula’s, game assets, pricing, and other schemes…we don’t need their woke dei agenda too. There’s plenty of topics and ‘representation’ already inherent with other AC games as well as this story, without completely demeaning, discounting, and emasculating the audience to create a perverse, immersion-breaking, and senseless addition such as that to the game. I won’t pay for this until it’s fixed. It’s boycott otherwise. And every other gamer is smart to do the same. You go woke, you go broke.

You have a good point until uou mention brics, chang. 😂😂😂
I’m genuinely happy this game is going to fail, Ubisoft needs to learn a lesson, but they obviously won’t and they’ll continue to butcher the Assassins Creed IP like they announced the other day. what also pisses me off.. is they didnt feel the need to say they "are sorry" until the japanese spoke out over it. they wouldnt have said shit if americans or anyone other than japan complained.
