@sugarnads ....it's whose language? Who has no accent? What are you talking about? You do realize that a spoken language and an accent, or dialect, of that language are two entirely separate and distinct attributes, don't you? In other words, the English language has a number of different accents and dialects. For example, there is American English, British English, Australian English, Canadian English, etc. There are over 160 recognized accents of the English language in use worldwide. So, yes, and contrary to your statement, the content creator here certainly has a British accent...and a very lovely British accent, at that.
Like you stated, despite an attempt to embalm QEI, her remains still underwent a less severe "explosion" from natural decomp gas build up. Additionally, due to the fact her burial was weeks way after her death date, the Mortal remains of QEI, had to be awful whiffy. QQQ: I Understand that lead lined coffins are the norm for the UK Royal Family. Wasn't this the case in Midevil UK? If yes, I guess her coffin wasn't sealed air tight. QQQ: What is done with the urns holding the K & Q's Hearts? Are they grouped in the same Cathedral? Thank God a Law exists for mandatory timeframe burials must take place. Grief is an awful part of life. 😢 Thanks for your podcast.
Extremely well-narrated. Thank you. I have had the privilege of visiting Elizabeth I’s vault in Westminster Abbey twice; each time was overwhelming as Elizabeth I has long been admired by me from childhood. A truly remarkable monarch and woman.
Exremely well narrated? That means that you apparently know what the word REPUNGENT means. Search as I may, I cannot find this word anywhere. I find REPUGNANT , I find REPUDIATE, I find REPREHENSIBLE, I find REPRESS, I find REPROACH, lots of words that start RE, but REPUNGANT appears not to be in the English language. Nevertheless this piece is very well narrated.
The body of QE1 was wrapped in waxed cloth and placed into a lead envelope. The coffin is of oak and elm, with a Tudor rose and 1603 on the lid. When last observed, had a crack at the top and was crumbling a bit at the sides. However, due to the lead sealing, she is likely well preserved to this day. The embalming was evidenced in part by Richard Busby in 1670 at the funeral of General Monck, when two funeral urns were discovered. Arthur Penrhyn Stanley went into the vault in the 1860's. A little known fact was that the vault was opened again in 1976, as was that of some of the Stuarts. It was due to a suspect gas leak. The Stuart coffins were more like lead linings and that of Charles II in particular was not a pleasant one to see.
@@derekmorse8171 To both Q's. The Stuart coffins were originally oak on the outside, but unlike that for Queen Elizabeth I, they had decayed away. Probably due to damp. In the case of Charles II, some of the lead lining had disintegrated. The body of Charles II had decomposed, without recognizable form, to a skeleton and an unpleasant red substance. He was still wearing a signet ring but a limb; (I think it was a leg), was partly hanging out of the lead lining. Queen Elizabeth II did not want a new coffin, rather that the remains be left alone. There is a great waxwork of Charles II however in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Gallery. Queen Elizabeth I lies in a secure lead envelope. The coffin is of elm, with raised oak panelling on the lid, that also holds the initials 'ER'. It rests on top of the coffin of Mary I, in a narrow vault - that can be accessed in theory by lifting the slabs, just past the base end of the monument. The original red/purple cloth that can be seen in the funeral procession painting of Queen Elizabeth is still there, albeit tattered. Both she and Mary were at least as well embalmed as the Pharaoh's, but the added power of lead preservation and at only around 12-15% of the age. It sounds morbid, but if ever exhumed anytime soon, which I very much doubt, she would probably still be recognisable.
The book 'After Elizabeth ' ( I HIGHLY recommend!) suggests a reason fir her nit wanting embalming: the dispute over her naming a successor early on had one cleric saying shed lay unburied after death while they debated her next heir so the council could maintain their power claming she was still alive until they made a decision. She knew her mortal remains would start to decay if left long so was trying to avoid that fate
Elizabeth I's body would not have been the first to "explode." When the body of William the Conqueror was being lowered into his tomb at Abbaye-aux-Homes, it was found to be too large for the space, and when attendants forced the body into the tomb it burst, spreading a disgusting odour throughout the church.
...during your research, did you discover a particular point at which the blood was removed from the body as part of/in preparation for this Tudor Era embalming/evisceration ? And while specific vessels were provided for containment of the removed organs, I haven't read/heard that any 'special provision' for the post mortem disposition of "Royal Blood"...
Very interesting bit of history about a fascinating personage. Narrator speaks clearly and has a delightful accent that is easy for US ears not used to thicker accents.
It doesn't matter if your entire corpse is buried beneath 6 feet of earth, outdoors, as us peasants do, because nobody is going to smell your decomposition gases. However if your casket is entombed in a mausoleum or a vault or the tomb is on prominent display within the chapel in a cathedral, or a palace chapel, nobody wants to experience the stench of death and rot that can linger for months, if not years.
It's too bad that some of her beautiful clothing didn't survive. From what I've read, there was a fabric fragment found in a church some years past now that may have been part of a dress, and that is the only piece of clothing ever found.
How was she disembowelled against her wishes? Roofee?

She should have had the label of 'bloody' like Mary did. She had many Catholics killed but that is usually never mentioned - it is the winners who write the history.
She ddnt start like that. She was very tolerant by the standards of the time. But the pope sent out a bull calling on catholics to murder her and there were several attenpts. Then after she was killed when they didn't get toleration they basically tried a 1600s 9/11. Both religions were fanatics back then. Her church settlment was actually very moderate
Shane she didn’t get rid of all religions because all religions are stupid fairy stories that still cause misery, pain and wars on innocent people. Catholic Church is the worst with cruel perverted people
My favorite bit of Elizabeth 1's reign is as her naval forces returned after defeating the great Spanish Armada. She required them not to dock because if they did, she would have to pay off off the Officers and Crew. Many of those forced to linger in sight of land starved to death.
Elizabeth left the country in good state when she passed away as well as giving the country stability with a long rule. Mary lost Calais and left the country in debt. You aren’t going to be remembered kindly if you leave the country in the toilet like Mary did. This has nothing to do with being a winner who writes history. Mary rule spoke for itself
This headline meant to be taken seriously. After all would anyone in right mind 'want to be disembowelled against their wishes? Good bye "click bait." One is sure all the "hanged drawn and quartered" would be against their wishes.
Much loved? Perhaps much feared might be more accurate. She might not have become the homicidal loony her father became but she was directly responsible for about 64 political executions and about 250 Catholics who refused to acknowledge her as the head of the church. So if a hereditary dictator has a direct hand in about 300 or so deaths I’m not sure we can laud her propriety or fairness. I’m sure there are those who will say, “well that was the times” and apparently they were but let’s not gild the lily.
Yes to both. She had an elder half-sister, Mary I, aka "Bloody Mary", who was the daughter of Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon. She also had a cousin, Mary Queen of Scots, who was the mother of James I. Two separate people, both named Mary and both related to Elizabeth.

She had a lot of people disemboweled alive… also the ritual included the heart. Can’t say she didn’t earn it, against her will.
It's too bad that some of her beautiful clothing didn't survive. From what I've read, there was a fabric fragment found in a church some years past now that may have been part of a dress, and that is the only piece of clothing ever found.
What happens to a monarch’s belongings ( clothing, personal belongings etc.) after their death?
They just wanted to see if she was really female,a virgin or had had a child. At least she never knew about it.
Have many people actually consented to disembowelment?
Queen Victoria for one never did and this was respected. They had to burn coal or something similar near the lying-in-state.

'Disemboweled Against Her Wishes"? How many people wish to be disemboweled?
Was Mary cousin or half sister ?
Half sister
Definitely a half sister - unless in some cultures that is described as a cousin.
@dudmanjohn There were two different women named Mary in this video. One was her half-sister, the other her cousin.

Repungent ? Is that a word ?
She was a brutal evil creature. What part of hell would even have her lol Gloriana? Evilana.
Ummm, was not Mary Queen of Scots....... Queen Elizabeth l's half-sister, yeah?
Mary Queen of Scots was her cousin....Her half sister was also called Mary which could be slightly confusing
"Repungent"? I find that downright repugnant. I did, however, very much enjoy the content.
