Prepper Tip: If you are interested, look into buying a dehumidifier, connect its drain to a 55 gallon container (connected to larger containers if you wish), and then using solar power you can pull water right out of the air for free thereafter. Throw a filter inline somewhere and you'll have some pure drinking water as well.
Yes! So much water!
I agree. I collect 20 litres every 18 hours by this method. I live by the sea.❤
I use one in my apartment and on humid days I empty a 35 pint bin every 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
Great idea!
Yes! Brilliant ❤
Opinion: DON’T let go of ibc water tote AND get a low-volume water pump with flexible tubing b/c you will be glad for alternate water storage AND add’l option for moving water from point A to point B.
Or lift it with the tractor forks for gravity flow to transfer.
Keep it out of the sun as well.
TOTALLY AGREE!
I'm thinking this will be your "forever" home site. So, all, and anything you spend on this place, be it equipment, drilling a Well, whatever will all be an investment in your future. Remember as someone has already suggested, be sure the cabin is well elevated, just in case you have rising water from that creek. You're both young and have a lifetime, to do it right. You don't punch a time clock every day, so take your time and enjoy your time building a life and a home.
Regarding the bugs, consider putting up bird houses for either bats or Purple Martins. Each bird or bat eats hundreds, if not thousands, of bugs each day or night.
Yes that's what I thinking about martin houses
Fantastic suggestion.😊
Next time you go shopping, pick up a jar of "Organic unrefined virgin Coconut Oil" in the baking section. I use Walmart brand. Use it to repeal mosquitoes by spreading it all over your bodies. You will smell nice, and the bugs keep away. Just don't store this in your kitchen cupboards...grin. Keep it in the bathroom. Also, if you find a farmers market, you might be able to buy big clippings of Mint. Chop it up and sprinkle around your door, and other places where you sit, hang out. It helps keep the mosquitoes. If you can find a local garden center, or a road side stand, you might be able to buy the whole plant. Plant it everywhere around the front of the trailer.
@@laurieclarkston8695*repel
@@laurieclarkston8695
You can grow it easy from just a small cutting. Also gardenias and geraniums and marigolds repel bugs and snakes. Most any of your mint plants will repel. I think you are probably to far north for eucalyptus but it’s a great repellent.
A cloth stretched over the top of the trash can would be a good first filter to keep bugs out
Those babies are growing up so fast , they are precious omg 😊.
They sure are, aren't they?
If you decide on the spot where the creek is make sure when there is a big rainstorm you don’t get flooded.
I recommend you cut the trees and vegetation at least 3 feet in all directions to open up the road and allow it to dry out quicker. Then with most of the logs you can cut them into 7 foot lengths and stack them to dry for fire wood. As log as you manage your forest correctly you’ll have damn near an unlimited supply of fire wood
you might want to have a fire break between the home and the trees, we live in the smokies and wildfires have taken out many homes in 2016 Gatlinburg fires and again in 2022 Wears Valley TN fires
A wrap around screened porch around the container house and a large room porch for lounging for larger group of people sounds great!
I thought about that also.
We did that years ago and my husband put propane heaters out there in the window inclosed parts. It was nice.
While Beau and Mom are cheering Dad on, Cam looks like he’s trying to lend some of his might to help Daddy.
The children are so precious.
Please always be careful and ready to do whatever you have to to defend your family. My husband and I both were very proficient in weaponry. And since we have had both tractor and weaponry deaths in the family we were always extremely careful. Especially around the children.
I myself was in a bad tractor accident when I was only 18 months old. That was back in the 40’s and tractors weren’t nearly as nice back then.
I’m excited for you on this adventure. I know you’re all going to shine.
♥️ Grandma 🌹
if the creek runs from a high elevation you can use the water to run a turbine for extra power.☺
Investigate just how much area "that little creek" is draining. They can become a raging river in just a few minutes in the right set of thunderstorms. Big sand bars and hollowed out holes in the turns in the creek are good evidence of that. One of those things that mountain people have to contend with.
I was thinking the same thing and I'm not a mountain people.
We had a small creek behind our house, it was so tranquil UNTIL a Tropical storm rained down in upstate NY!! The raging waters eroded 20 ft wide by 400 ft long along the back of our yard. And when it comes time to repair the damage, BEWARE of the Dept. Of Evironmental Protection.....They wiIl come and tell you you cannot bring any equipment near the widened stream because you may disturb the "endangered snails", or the like.
Friend had property w a small creek across the back area which had been used a a dumping ground. He got a visit from the EPA when he pulled an old rusted out washing machine from the creek. Ridiculous.
I did something similar with trash can water catchments. Myn has a removable lid so I flipped it upside down, drilled holes in the middle where standing water would catch, I glued pantie hose over the holes on both sides of the lid (inside and outside), and I placed a brick in the middle over the holes and pantie hose to hold the lid down on windier days. I haven’t had one problem with my lids moving or debris or bugs getting in to my water 👍🏽 You guys are pros so I’m sure you’ve got it all sorted 😁 Keep up the amazing work! Those kids have an enchanted life ✨ 😊
I’m with @doncaranci2547, a bear or coyote can sneak up on you. A side arm is a must in my opinion. Especially with the kids and the dogs. A shot in the air will scare predators away in most cases. I’ve never had to shoot AT one. The dogs will agitate the predators.
Great home site! It will be beautiful.
not grizz and coyotes dont attack people
@@mitzihodges497
It’s rare but yes they do. Especially be careful if it’s a pack of coyotes. I have had them to charge me. Had to shoot one to get the others to turn around. But I did have a cat in a back pack carrier on me. We thought that may have been what triggered them.
An Airhorn maybe a good alternative.
As a firearms instructor, firing into the air is very unsafe as the bullet falls back to earth with almost the same deadly velocity as it went up, many people are killed each year by this.
I'm sure you already know this, but for forest fire safety you need two exits from your living quarters
and from location of the future cabin!!!
Absolutely ! Great idea
Two exist roads as well.
I think that you will have to put in a gate at the entrance to your property to keep out trespassers and hunters, and post the no trespassing signs!
YESSSS great advice! 👍🏼
Is this just going to be a vacation home?
@@lelanoel3499I was wondering that too
Not getting much info in that regard
Maybe there is a gate, they don't show entrance.
I would keep the the water tote! Use a cipher hose to get from tote to camper!

After following you & Spencer from the very beginning, through all the trials, triumphs. and 2 babies...I can say this is so exciting! You can tell this land and project is very different. It is so special to be able to have a glimpse into you seeing your dreams come alive, as a family. Congrats and thank you!
Hello how are you doing and where are you from?
This show got even better now you guy are turning another piece of raw land into a beautiful home.
I've seen a couple of people who are doing what you're doing and they're using the wood that they're clearing out to make wood chips and then putting that on the road. It has to be improved later with sand and gravel and various things, but that's at least a start. People are also using the wood chips just for little paths around the area. It's certainly a resource that you're going to have a ton of. I think you might find Tyler and Todd as a good resource to see how they built roads.
I was think the same thing!
indeed!!..... LOVE Tyler & Todd!
not a good idea. wood will turn to compost and hold water, making for a mud pit. compost is good for a garden but not for building a road
I’d worry about adding more combustible material to a fire break
It’s taking all my willpower to stop me from telling you what I think you should do. I'm not sure how long I can hold off.
I assumed the spot where you parked the camper was going to be the cabin site, but I was wrong. Spencer is doing a fine job building the driveway into the site for the cabin. Be careful moving those boulders so you don't get caught in the way when they start rolling. Everyone is adapting to being outdoors and the challenges of living in a mountain forest so well. Kenzie's happiness is contagious.
We just went to the mountains and the house we were staying in had hundreds and hundreds of lighting bugs! It was wonderful!❤️
Hi! We wish you and your family the greatest of Faith, Peace, and happiness.
We were just watching the segment where you were speculating where you wanted to place your up-and-coming cabin. Now remember the closer to a "water source" you are, the higher the chances of inadvertently inviting wildlife to your immediate location. While (in our opinion) all wildlife is majestic and beautiful, some may be dangerous when little ones are around.
That is what guns are for
Turn the lid upside down and make a whole in the center.the lid will catch the rain and channel it into the trash bin.
Yes. A natural basin catchment.
them....respond....hahah good luck
And a mesh to catch the bugs and what's not from entering the bin.

The kids are having a blast. Crazy how we as subscribers watched them grow
That place is going to be magical, when it's all cleared, and the cabin is up there!
Hello Lois
A small 12v pump like what is on a garden tank spray would work great on that IBC tote. And, you could connect it through the valve at the bottom of the IBC tote.
There's nothing wrong with drinking reason water. You mentioned using a filter, so that should remove all the trash.
If you have a creek close enough, run a pump and water line from the creek with a filter. Mountain creek water is the best tasting water!
I thought the same thing...about the pump. I've not had the opportunity to taste mountain creek water.
В крайнем случае и для уверенности, воду после фильтрации можно проверить в лаборатории...

I used to watch you always..... but I've gotten old enough to cause issues..... but here I am again. This baby is a wonderful young child!!
My husband and I have watched you from the beginning, but somehow we've missed why you've left your Texas property for this new location and adventure Don't mistake me, it's great to see your progress and love that your children are growing up playing outside and enjoying nature.
They didn't leave, this is only a sort of retreat place for the family.
I read a comment on a past video that said the land their home is on is part of Spencer’s family’s property. Maybe it was never intended to be their final stop. Their channel is such a success and maybe they’re moving on up. Although they keep saying they are going to bring the cabin up there. I guess we will have to wait and see.
That is exactly my question. The other container at the Texas location . (3) I never saw it finish . At least furnished. They mentioned it was for guest. At what time they move to live know in a camper , when they already spend years to finish the container home , plus the guest container ( in Texas) I never saw the inside . Where is this other building taking place ?
@@silviataylor936 It was supposedly to be used as a guest container. I'm sure they saw the drop off in viewership because doing another container was boring. Now they're just copying Andrew Camarata: th-cam.com/video/KEbUNLHdX0E/w-d-xo.html
Is it just me or did Spencer slip and say those big rocks would look great at a "gated entrance?" Wonder if they are planning a "container house" community on this new property? That would be awesome!
We hooked up a $180 well pump from harbor freight to our totes and hooked up to city water inlet. Worked for 3 years.
Getting water from the creek for washing is just like a pioneer woman!
well.. a BIT different .... :-) 🙂
I love the trash can/awning water reclamation system! Great use of existing materials. You need to start planting things that those bugs don't like. Hopefully they will naturalize. Ticks and mosquitos carry disease. They aren't just annoying, they are dangerous to your health.
Get some chickens or guinea hens. You won’t have any issues with fleas or ticks.
You are very brave with all those trees around and wildlife! The children are growing up fast. They’re so adorable!!
serious question here, whats so brave about being around trees and wildlife? Millions of people live like this everyday.
It's nice to have your kids having the time of there lives outdoors rather on the computer good quality of family life beautiful there

Absolutely love the drone footage! You get a true idea of the density of forest ❤
seeing where you want to build, in my humble opinion you should have a bear proof garbage bin. once they get into garbage they will hang around and you have kids and pets. just saying.
I believe they have locking trash cans. I would keep my trash cans at the entrance to property and take bags of trash to them. It is not smart to have trash cans where you live in bear country.
What useful attachments you have for your tractor, with so much land clearance to do. How big is the property area you own, it looks big? Your two children will love that mud, you will need your washing machine.

Wonderful that you .have the tractor..i love all the work you got done! So happy for y'all..
The creek offers the potential of creating a hydropower source. If you are able to damn up an area you can then build a simple water mill that will spin and create electricity. A basic washer machine only needs 110. I connected a pump to an IBC tote to draw water into a pressure tank. That tank fed the water into a micron filter and a UV filter. The clean water is stored in 55-gallon barrels. They also make a countertop filter called Burkee that you dump water into and it comes out potable. The pressurized water is easily diverted into use by a porch-mounted washing machine. The water drains out into the garden. The soap used is designed for this purpose. Who needs a dryer when you can line dry for free and a lot faster. They also do make a washer and dryer combo that is all one unit.
I love seeing the kids grow and it is such a blessing for them to get into nature the way they are. I am sure they are making memories that will last a lifetime. For the water situation, have you considered a ram pump in the creek and the tote further up the hill? Gravity could do all the work!
I second the hydraulic ram pump idea. I learned about them a couple years back and it blew my mind!
I hope you guys know about clearing a firebreak area around your cabin of at least 50ft all the way around. It's lush and green now but the years it gets dry and brown all it takes is a spark and whoosh 🔥🔥🔥 Better safe than sorry 🫤
Hey guys, if you watch what the vanwives did for "power" at their place, it's a great idea for your place after you clear up the place, etc. If you do what they did, you guys won't have to pay for utilities. Nothing wrong with that and they grow their own food too.
You should be using the creek water to fill your water tank, it could be clean enough to actually drink, but at worst to go potty and clean dishes.
Siphon pump from Tractor Supply with a standard collapsible garden hose would solve your water transfer problem.
Exactly, as long as the opening of the water fill in the camper is lower than the water tote then that's the way to go. You just have to get the water up and over the edge of the tote and gravity will take over.
My dream build. Looking forward to watching it come together.
Enjoyed watching you build the container home. Now love this new adventure of yours, all the way from Bellville Cape Town South Africa. :)
Hello Liz
I love the kids yelling “tractor”!
I am so excited about this new property and looking forward to you bringing the new container to it. Your property is SO beautiful and you are so fortunate to have a creek running through it. And fireflies!!? I think you just bought a parcel from heaven! Congratulations (and thank you for putting together the vids every week :)).
Hello Family 🤗 good thinking on water catchment 👌 Beau & Cam are loving being there exploring ☺️ going to be a beautiful area for the cabin 🌳 have a great week 🙏🇺🇲🥰
Simply amazing. A journey when you are my age you will appreciate. I’m 62 but did the same thing as you guys. Montana, Alaska, Utah and South Dakota. Nothing is easy but in the end, you look at what you accomplished but something calls you to test yourself again. Chase your dream. You only have one chance.
I use a 12V RV pump but I don't fill my camper tank with it. I put a hose from the pump inlet into my tote and run the outlet to my city water connection. I just run a cable from the pump into my service access where I installed a power outlet. It also makes winterizing that much easier.
I have plans to pipe the pump into the bottom outlet of the container but it works OK as-is.
There are a lot of really good comments and suggestions from folks. You folks, the producers of this channel are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work. Your kids are growing up so fast .
Spencer is doing an awesome job. Awesome family.
They attract good commenters as well ❤
My suggestion for water is to tap into your existing, or get another 12v water pump and pump from the 275 gallon tote into your camper holding tank. Or drain your 275 gallon tank into the trash can and use your existing pump.
gonna be expensive getting stone on that road so yall dont get stuck in the mud, but having that tractor is making your work much easier thats good you have it. great investment

That's just gonna attract the T-Rexes! lol Seriously though, couldn't they get some loggers in to help thin out some of the bigger tress? I'm thinking of Al Luhmna style of setup. It's a beautiful spot but I would be freaking about bears, poisonous snakes, coyotes etc.
Just in case I wanted to let you know my experience with that little washer you have. When I got it I looked on youtube for a tutorial and this young man did a fine job but he didn't mention rinsing the clothes. Upon further investigation I discovered that you are supposed to pour water over the clothes in that same spin area and then spin it to rinse. Hope that helps.

Hello Carol
You don't need to filter rain water for showering nor washing the dishes guys. It's even more suitable for drinking than city chemical water in most of US cities.
Oh you guys...what another fun project. Everything Spencer does is top notch. Your children are growing up so fast and are so beautiful. I'll be watching this build for sure.
What a joy to watch your family and all the coming builds. Your site is so relaxing.
You are exactly the type of folks this country needs to raise up the next generation. Well done y'all. Be careful in those woods. (Paulides/ Missing 411 has me a bit anxious.) Hold fast y'all.
As for the trash can I recently seen where someone took one of the trash cans that has a rounded lid cut a hole in it and turn it upside down. They taped a piece of fine mesh wire to the underside and when it rained the lid would catch water all the time as well as keeping out leaves and bugs that way. Those babies are so sweet and are growing like water weeds. I don't thing I remember you saying where you are geographical, but it is beautiful. What an opportunity to teach your children about all the nature surrounding you. Hope you are where there is some pawpaw trees. The fruit from them remind you of a banana.
So peaceful and serene. You guys are inspirational.

Two questions. 1. How high up the mountian will you be where you plan to put your cabin?
2. Are you worried about big cats and bears when the kids are outside playing?
LOVE ❤❤❤❤ your place!
You can get an attachment for the drain valve on the IBC tote and convert it to a regular garden hose spigot. We’ve been doing redneck water collection for several years and have multiple videos with lessons learned. In the end tarps worked well to collect large portions of water. We were able to fill two 2500 gallon tanks😮

The new property is cleaning up great, Spencer and John Deere are doing a marvelous job...lol 😂😅 The site ya'll picked for the cabin is awesome, but I'm still not sure which state you picked in. It looks like Missouri. Love ya'll ❤
I use the larger IBC totes for all sorts of things. Water, hydroponics, remove the plastic container part and use just the cage for firewood, etc. I have pallet forks for my tractor and use them ALL THE TIME. very worth the investment. You can use the forks to lift the tote high enough to let water gravity feed out of the bottom spout of the tote. I have filled one up, strapped to a trailer, and delivered to neighbors after a storm. We have neighbors that use them for fire suppression. The water, with a touch of bleach, will store for a year (although I rotate 2 totes every 6 months so we always have some fresh water.). Lots of options and good to have a few totes around.
Oh, and a small DC pond pump and a hose or piece of PVC will allow you to get water out of the tote without lifting it up. They are a few bucks on Amz.
Getting your rocks off takes on a whole new meaning! 😉 For water and that tote, get a no-prime pump. A hose in the tote to the no-prime pump and you can push that water wherever you'd like...including up (no-prime pump dependent). Beautiful space! Precious children!
I've watched this couple since they started, and watched them become a family, and I love this family. Their children are precious, and these parents seem to do everything right. I think they deserve a PhD in becoming a family. Maybe they appear successful because they have a purpose, they have goals, and they have income that allows them to do what they need to do. Income is the missing ingredient for so many young families. Our government seems so intent to keep young families poor, and so eager to help rich people get richer. There are ways to help young families, but there is a significant political party who's goals seem focused on helping only the rich.
They make their money from this channel. We their viewing family & patreons have got them where they are financially. 😊❤
