I’ve eaten that before but my grandma who was born and raised in Vietnam (formerly part of Cambodia) said it’s not a Viet dish. Folks in that part of the country were ethnic Khmers living in or near the border so they often gave their dishes a Viet sounding name. This is where the confusion begins as they Viets would of course make claim and take credit for everything with the Banh or any other viet terms used by the ethnic Khmers. This was what my grandma and her side in Vietnam shared with me. It’s also interesting because many of them are ethnically full Khmer but even adopted Viet last names as well like Tran, Chau, Le or Ly, Sy, Duong, Truong or Trung, etc. This also applies to Khmer dishes eaten around that region. Many who aren’t aware just repeat whatever they’re being told or whatever the Viets say. One thing that stands out most from everything my grandma shared with me is that many if not all the ethnic Khmers in present day Vietnam during her era were uneducated and easily brainwashed. They were afraid of the Viets coming to make their lives worse if they said anything they’re not supposed to. My grandma was outspoken and didn’t care at all and rebelled against the Viets. To this day, she despises them even though her last name is Viet and she speaks fluent Viet and gave some of her kids Viet names, which is so funny to me. In fact, I have a Viet middle name/nick name because of her. People would assume I’m Viet when they hear it. I have cousins who have adapted and claim Vietnamese over their Khmer identity even though they don’t have a single drop of Viet blood in them. So this pretty much sums up a lot about what I just shared with you about the food as well. It’s actually sad but that’s the reality for us Khmers. Many of us don’t care enough to sort anything out in black and white. They just go along with whatever as long as it doesn’t bring them trouble. They just want peace and to be left alone.
Wow. Can’t thank you enough for shedding light on this. ❤ ❤❤

Oh my Godly Self, Jesus, and Buddha, the 3-in-1 fraternal twin that I am Christ. I learned my lesson, that is to refrain from commenting because once I comment on any video only ONCE, I get instantly notified by social media as if I’m a groupie or something. Just like how when I commented on one video on the antique Khmer Golden Boy statue that has been sent to Thailand the other day, I got an entire bombardment of annoying whiny Thai and Vietnamese-speaking videos. Or like how when I commented saying I am not a fan of Hip Hop or black history, and I got a swarm of notifications from black artists, music, and films.
And a tattoo? What tribal pagan group are you part of? The Mayflower or the Great Arrival? Everywhere I go it’s primitive tribal alpha or wannabe alpha males. So glad I am a Betta aka the elaborately colorful tropical territorial fighting fish native to Southeast Asia. And it’s called Alphabet for a reason (Alpha-Beta) the first literate prophet gentle-handed gentleman-meaning no tattoos! Alpha: Primal/Primitive, wild, ignorant, tribal pagans who represents the aggressive thunderstorm VERSUS Beta: Second-Coming, Second-born fraternal twin/Enlightenment, Serene Sun who represents the prophesied Pharaoh since the letter B derived from the Ancient Egyptian phoneme Pr for Pharaoh).
And everyone’s comments are so boring and robotic. Sheep flocking together is unbearable and suffocating for a unique one.
