31:03 Yall have to remember it's not necessarily because Zendayas character was "freaky" She was also a colored woman falling in love with a white man. It wasn't something common back then
Also because any form of entertainment that didn't seem to really have a purpose was looked down on. So she's not only a colored woman dating a white man, she's an acrobat too.
He didn’t run away to the circus as a child. Getting a job helping build the railroad system that goes out west is what he did before marrying charity.
I was hoping they’d figure this out when Barnum created the circus (cause he couldn’t have gone off with the circus if it didn’t exist yet), but they didn’t. 😭💀
@@ew5601 I think they just missed the background when that recruiter was shouting and were probably more focused on the fact that it was a movie about a circus lol
I'm shocked neither of them commented on how talented that bartender was?! he was sliding drinks around and topping them up like it was nobody's business, while also flawlessly keeping the rhythm of the song
I haven’t finished the reaction but just a quick note, he doesn’t join a circus in the beginning of the movie, he joined the american railroad to build roads, the “circus” as seen in the film was invented by him. In real life he wasn’t a good guy but this is a really good movie. And Zac Efron’s character y based on “Bailey”
The singing was ALL done by the actors themselves! There are rehearsal videos out there which show of their talent better than the movie itself imo. The only exception is 'Never Enough' The actress liked the "preview version" so much she decided to lipsync instead of singing it herself.
Zac Efron and Zendaya does sing in the movie and the soundtrack, but 2 years after the movie released, there was a Greatest Showman Reimagined album where famous singers covered the songs. That's where James Arthur and Anne Marie covered it.
Thank god, I know I couldn't have been the only person to go, "Hang on... does he mean James Arthur? Who did a cover, and not the actual song in the movies." I paused and went straight to the comments to see who else picked up on that.
During Rewrite the Stars, the part where they flew and caught each other, I remember watching Zac and Zendaya talk about how they legit crashed into each other during rehearsals and you heard their chests colliding.
The circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. The Ringling brothers purchased Barnum & Bailey Ltd. in 1907 following Bailey's death in 1906, but ran the circuses separately until they were merged in 1919.
From a guy who loves to sing along to his music at work when im alone but doesnt have an amazing voice, watching you try your best to sing along wasnt what i what anticipating but i loves it haha 🙃
I mean Hugh Jackman is also in Les Miserables. Only feels right you guys do this one as well. Loved ur reaction Also fun fact Zyanda learned trapeze for this and does all this herself in this sence
bailey is phillip carlisle’s middle name in the move - in reference to james bailey. barnum irl took over as ringmaster but the movie flipped it. hope that helps 😊
I think y'all might be my new favorite singers 😂👏 I went to the movie theater so many times to watch this movie, I am still obsessed and the songs are so good.
I always cry during "Tightrope", that song, that scene... Is so heartbreaking, I just can't watch the movie and not cry when she was dancing alone with the shadow in the curtain and then the shadow fades away, definitely my favorite song of the movie 😭😭😭

If you guys want to see if you can handle a heart-warming but also emotional movie I'd definitely recommend "The Color Purple"! And if you guys ever think you'd be interested in watching a tv show, I think "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is just your humor! 😁
I just did a research and actually Bailey is James Anthony Bailey, he was considered as Barnum's rival since he opened a circus in London but then they went into partnership and created "Barnum and Bailey's Circus"
as someone who loves this movie and unironically listens to these songs, it was funny watching you attempt singing them LMAO also as a big zendaya fan its zen-DAY-a not zen-DIE-a 😭
44:10 - you should watch The Greatest Showman | Featurette - Hugh Jackman | 2017 - it shows the behind the scenes of this particular song getting greenlit. it's pretty goosebump inducing.
They called Zendaya "the help" because she's Black and that's all we were seen as back then (shoot, even now in some places). They were being racist, not classist. Yes, Zendaya and Zac did their own stunts for Rewrite The Stars. There's some really fun interviews about it. And, I think the trapeze thing would have been seen as just talent if Zendaya and her brother (played by the now-very famous Yahya Abdul-Mateen) were not Black, but it probably still would have been seen as a weird skill. Also, PT Barnum was actually a really horrible person in real life that I kind of hate that I love this movie so much! Lol. But it is very well done! I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dreamgirls! It's one of the best musical movies ever made!
I used to go to Barnum & Baileys Greatest show on earth like the early 2000s and it was absolutely this vibe. It was fun but I think they closed it and made it a little more humane or something.
Been binge watching your stuff cause you guys are so funny, first time I’m commenting though cause I loved that you guys sand along, was so adorably cute the way you guys were belting out the tunes even though you didn’t know them, please react to more musicals!!
Zac Efron and Zendaya did all their singing and stunts. Both learned trapeze for their song. The only person who didn't sing was the woman playing Jenny. They dubbed her. Lauren Alldred did the song " Never Enough ".
I remember after I watched this movie in theaters I was like “barnum” sounds familiar when I looked it up I saw “barnum crackers” and I was like I used to eat those all the time. then I was reading an article between the real life, p.t. barnum and the movie version and the movie doesn’t really go based off his life entirely like only a very small portion of the movie is real
I love the greatest showman. The Music, Chef’s Kiss. 3:28 Oh, No. see I’m quitting, You’re not putting hands on my child. 4:56 Poison Apple. Nightshade apple.
So Circus meant basically the same thing it does now but it was derogatory because forms of entertainment that didnt seem to have a direct person were looked down on. Because any form of being a free spirit was considered stupid more or less. Even though some of the characters dont necessarily look different from anyone else like Zendaya's character and Barnum himself you were still looked down on for associating yourself with people who were different. Zendaya was not only looked down on for being part of the circus, she had a specific niche of being an acrobat on top of the obvious racism and dating a man who was outside her economic class

The concentration faces while your trying to sing is taking me out 😭🤣
Their singing was a hilarious gift..mad respect though for them seriously making the attempt
I actually died when you guys sang along with never be enough😂😂

Bartender was definitely the main character in that song
I believe he was also the choreographer!

Many of the stunts by Zendaya were real and did it all on her own. A couple of the shots were CGI, but still she did great.
During Rewrite the Stars, the part where they flew and caught each other, I remember watching Zac and Zendaya talk about how they legit crashed into each other during rehearsals and you heard their chests colliding.
I can’t wait to see a La La Land sing along😂
you guys singing along to this, especially when you did 'Never Enough', is by far the cutest thing I've seen in days 🥰💛
“Woman with hair? How could she?” Love that 😂
