Hey guys. I only just discovered this channel the other day. Have followed you both on Outdoor Chef Life, which I love. But this channel is brilliant. My favourite part, Is Joscelyn being a huge part of it. Always in the background, catching the first or biggest fish, chatting a bit about the food, I assume she was a bit shy. But this channel dispels that! Great work you two. A pleasure to watch your adventures. Happy you made it to Australua, but sad you didn't manage Tasmania (my home state). Undoubtedly, the best seafood in Australia! Maybe next time. Thanks again. Rob, Tasmania
Aloha Jocelyn & Taku!! Always good to see u guys back in Hawaii. The food looks ONO/Delish!! TY! Pls keep in mind that Hawaii is THE MOST EXPENSIVE PLACE TO LIVE IN THE US!! Most of those in the Service Industry ONLY MAKE MINIMUM WAGE!! TIPS mean To Insure Prompt Service!! No place of business should force you to Tip or add any Tip onto the cost of your beverage or meal. If the service was GREAT then yes, a Tip would be greatly appreciated cuz that's how we pay our bills! If the service sucked then don't leave anything. Back when I was waitressing, the only time the Tip was added on to the check was when we served groups from Japan or those that were with some kind of package deal. The Japanese tourist were always the best to wait on cuz they're polite & very nice people!! Glad to see u enjoyed yourselves! Come back soon! Perhaps some of the locals will hookup with you to take you on a fishing adventure & show you more of the island & spread the Aloha Spirit!! Mahalo's & Aloha nui!
I REALLY loved the time you were discussing your different upbringing’s influencing your eating styles, for one. I enjoyed hearing how you later discussed, respectfully, other differing view points; i.e. “tipping” That is how it should be done. You’re demonstrating a behavior that I didn’t always see growing up, or in my 20’s, 30’s, 40’s or 50’s. I’m happy for you both. Thanks for providing your content.
I love seeing Hawaii through your channel. I won't ever return back there but will cherish the good memories being raised there and living there. Stay safe out there gang 🤙
Glad you got to visit my hometown. That's the one thing I miss about Hawaii is the many many different varieties of food. Like Taku the rice there is number 1 always. Have a safe trip back to San Francisco. Aloha from Kansas
All those places looked incredible. I could almost taste the spam and ginger.. deeelicious! Thank you so much for taking us along - Zelda from Los Angeles
Hey Taku and Jocelyn I really enjoyed this one. I couldn't believe the food you guys were having. It all looked absolutely delicious. So many different types of dishes. New Zealand has only in the last 3 decades started to get a better variety of foods and I guess it's because of the influx of people from different countries that have settled here bringing their influences into the food industry that have changed our preferences for the better. I've travelled a bit to Indonesia and different Asian countries a while back and was hoping the food industry and variety would change and it is getting better. Jocelyn has a motor bike, wow . Anyway guys loved this one. Safe journeys and bless you both. Aroha nui from us Kiwi's.
I love Hawaii. The climate is perfect. No place comes close to the comfort level of Hawaii. I wasn't into food that much then but the beaches and water temperature were amazing. Nice bonus for you guys. That is crazy about tipping. 10% was forever then 15% is what I have been leaving since, guess I am not up to snuff.
Yes! Cold ginger poke from Off The Hook Poke is da bomb! BTW, if you want good poke in the SF Bay Area, head down to San Jose's Japantown to Aloha Fresh. The owner is from Hawaii and makes it the right way. Not like most of the so called poke places on the mainland. They make it more like a raw fish salad. It should not be made on the spot when you order. You have to give it some type for all the flavors to marry. So if you see a 'build your own' poke bowl restaurant, best to avoid it. Mahalo for this video!
Over here in Florence, SC us bartenders usually make $2.40 or so an hour, so we really rely on tips same with the servers in restaurants. Also, we don’t get the option for medical benefits, so we need every bit of help with tips that we could get.
Always watching . Filipina living in Denmark. My Danish husband love your channel because of me😂. Rice is Life for me😂. Love you guys. Looking forward you book .
I grew up in Honolulu for the first 25 years of my life, so it was fun trying to identify all of the places you guys stopped at. Kapahulu, Kapiolani Park, the Zoo…. Wasn’t sure if you stopped to eat at Kaena Point (past Mokuleia). I also didn’t realize you both ride motorcycles. Would be cool to see a riding video, along with busting out a fishing pole from your panniers & doing a catch & cook. You & Jocelyn are awesome!🤙
Great vid guys. It's a shame that the US still has a tipping culture. Gotta love that you, chef Taku, work your butt off for less money. Hats off to you, buddy. Finally, I'm a biker from the late 70s, and I'm still riding. I had to sell the car because I rarely used it. I'm currently riding a zx14r, and I totally agree with you jocelyne on your comment. Harley's are all noise, and no go..😂
Born and raised in Maui and now live in Oahu. I totally understand the feeling of leaving a tip for something that your job requires you to do. A tip should never be required for anything you want to purchase.
Taku, I believe I went to high school with your older brother akira. He would talk nonstop about bikes lol I'm sure he has one if not a few lol. Safe travels brother. Stay safe.
Never been to hawaii but from what i heard is that yall should go to the beaches and enjoy hawaii weather and they have this one hawaian tour where you see how they make coconut milk and other ingredients with coconut. And my answer for rice or breadand obviously rice is life.
Next time you're in Hawaii and if you want some better/bigger harleys to rent go to Chase Hawaii Rentals! Right on the corner of Kuhio and Royal Hawaiian Ave. They got some great bikes. I used to work there
Rice, but I'd choose Poi over rice. 18% tip here is good, but 20-25 is excellent. On holidays, or if the waitress is perfect ... we give more. 🤷🏽♀️😎🤙🏽
glad you were able to make light out of what would normally be a frustrating situation!! glad to have had you both back in HI!!! hope you had some fun 🤙🏻😄 At Shimazu... you should ask about the "The Larry" size 😯😆 YAY For Beer Lab!! thats my friend's spot!! hope you liked the beers! 😍 Mama Woo's has this fried eggplant banchan that is SO GOOD... hope you got some!
Joclyn, my thoughts about noisy Harleys exactly, although I would love to ride an XR 750, Keep up the good work, get back on a bike when you get the chance.
Meat Chun. I used to get it in Wahiaha , O’ahu, Hawaii at the Dong Yang Inn Korean restaurant. I think I read somewhere they developed Meat Chun. I ate there while stationed at Schofield Barracks 87-89. Was very good and they had the best potato/macaroni salad.
Meat jun braddah 😂 and yes dong yangs has the best meat jun and Mac salad on the island and they give a good amount for both for the prices they offer. Wahiawa is the the name of the little town
@@hawaiiboiskeezah8084 Thanks. When I tried looking it up a few years ago I thought I saw it spelled Chun. Thanks. @@LonC1966 that’s what’s up braddah glad you enjoyed your stay here man yeah main thing you have respect it’s given back to you! Glad you enjoyed your time here man god bless and thanks for serving our country happy 4th braddah aloha 👊🏽🤙🏽
If you ever come back here to Hawaii and want to try the best Meat Jun on the island, gotta check out Young’s Kalbi in Aiea!! You won’t be disappointed.
Hey Taku. Thanks for a little Kitchen Confidential moment. I don't know if the American system of pay for hospitality workers will ever get fixed. I tipped a waitress 20 percent today even though she totally fucked up my order. People have bad days and their minds are on other things. I get it.
dude theres this really really good seafood boil place over there in hawaii i cant remember what its called but its amazing!!!! something like boiling cajun or boiling crab i cant remember

Great video Taku & Jocelyn! I hear you Taku on the older brother. Lol. Interesting on the rice comments and definitely the poke.
Thanks for sharing!!!
You guys are awesome! I loved how you made the most of your layover going all over the place and just taking it all in. You guys eat like locals.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about tipping.
I didn’t know that, coming from overseas where we don’t tip at all
Have you been to Takahashi Market in San Mateo? Good poke there... and good plate style lunches.
