      Exactly. If you own any, you know they're extremely impractical for edc and next to useless for an actual defense situation. I'd take a lot of knives over my balisongs for carry. A good fixed blade that isn't ridiculously long, with a good grip that won't slip as easily

    • @randomeddie185

      @@QuestionThings123 they were actually designed after WW2 in the Philippines as a multipurpose edc knife for amputees who only had one hand. One of it's uses was for defense but most people found it less than satisfactory for that purpose. (IIRC, carrying a fixed blade was illegal at the time.)
      Just like a modern multitool, it wasn't really great at anything, but would do lots of things in a pinch.

      For the same reason marijuana is illegal: brown people used it and old white men didn’t like brown people when they passed the law. With marijuana it was to try to push indigenous Americans out of the US (even if those “Mexicans” lived in that area from before the land was bought by the US), and the knife was to place further stigma on brown people due to some brown people committing knife crimes than white, even though white people committed more crimes.

    • @hushlore
      @hushlore 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its because its a hidden blade. An open blade gives the attacked a chance to see it and run away more easily. Thats why otf and ballisongs are illegal in most places. They exist merely for offensive reasons. Same as blades with 2 cutting edges.

    So to clarify. “Speed from a pocket pull” or deployment with a balisong isn’t any faster than with an assisted opener, an Emerson hook, or wait for it, a fixed blade. That shouldn’t have to be explained, a knife that can be concealed in the palm and doesn’t have to open at all will still be faster. There is nothing about a balisong that renders it any deadlier than any other knife. They are just more fun to play with.

      I've handed my very basic and easy to use frame lock knife to people and they never know how to close it. Knives aren't everyone's thing and that's fine, but it's important to learn about them. For example OTF Switchblades are super scary to a lot of people, even though fixed blade knives are just as deadly and more reliable.
      I'm just glad that it's legal to own and carry any blade in my state. I'm currently trying to get a Microtech OTF but I've always had an interest in a Balisong I just have never got the chance to use one.

    no matter what if someone wanted to do something bad and could get something illegal they’ll get it anyway possible and it doesn’t change anything if they were to do it with a butterfly knife or a sheathed knife just ruining other peoples fun

    I think the other aspect is it allows you to safely carry a foldable dagger blade since the handles cover both edges. But really it's just because it looks fancy and dangerous

    I know it's not what you were specifically referring to, but another reason is certain areas can also have restrictions on things such as blade size too

    I think one reasoning i heard in germany is that you can unfold it with one hand, which isn't easy with normal pocket knives and spring-based pocket knives are iirc equally forbidden here.

    Lol I love how a fixed blade in a sheath Inside your pants can do more damage more quickly than a balisong and they’re still legal sometimes even when balies are illegal.

      @@swastika6383 Yes, that’s the point of stringent road laws or laws that ban drugs.
      It may be my choice to get fucked on cocaine or race my friends in cars, but both have the potential to hurt yourself and others, therefore are made illegal.
