      How I can improve that? Besides practice off course.

    when i was learning five, the thing that helped the most was forcing myself to start with three in my non-dominant hand. doing so highlighted an imbalance and forced me to correct. still took a long time to learn though. took a month to qualify (10 catches) and over a year to get to 100 catches. five is hard but a wonderful challenge!

    • @dejanjovanovic2298
      @dejanjovanovic2298 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I am learning 5 now. i am right handed, but in different paterns different hand is my dominant. I noticed some problems with my right hand in some 4 ball paterns, I can't juggle 5 yet, but i can trow and catch all five and stop. i don't know which hand is my dominant. When i start with 3 balls in my right, timing is better, but throw line is not correct. When i start with three balls in my left, throws are good, but i often miss timing, throw too fast, or throw two balls at once sometimes. but i am near to fix that.... This is good video, becouse some 4 ball paterns demand more speed than 5 ball cascade. It does not mean 5 ball cascade is easier. Speed is not as important in juggling. Main thing is timing and good throws

      Interesting. I find my non-dominant hand is lacking a bit in the consistency and height of my throws, causing an inbalance in time. Maybe I'll try what you said. Recently I went from juggling exclusively 3-ball cascade to a 5 ball flash in one day (though the flash was nowhere near consistent), and on my fourth day I've now gotten 3-5 qualifying juggles with a high of 15 catches. Still working on it!

    Taylor...I have taught juggling to middle and high school kids for 30 years as part of my Physical Education curriculum (just a mediocre juggler myself but it is a great PE class activity!). Currently teaching at an international school in Cambodia where I am following up the introduction I gave last month in class with online HBL instruction. I just want to say thank you for your excellent videos. You are a great teacher and a great resource!

    For those who want to know how long it takes to do it fluently (about 50 catches), to get the 4 ball practices down at least for me about 2 weeks to get them. After 2-3 weeks I got 5 ball flash. After that it will seem hard to notice improvement at first. After about 6 weeks (from start) I got anywhere from 12-15 catches at most. Another month and I got to 25. Then I got to 50 about 5 months after that.(But I was practicing on and off, school/vacations, etc.) So from my experience, you have to absolutely want it and be dedicated because it does take time and you may want to give up sometimes. But once you learn that rythm, that feeling of it, you will never forget it.

    • @Aaron-kr5vg
      @Aaron-kr5vg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Same here! I’ve been practicing 5 balls on and off for almost 5 months as well. Got my flash and qualify on the very first day but it took me a month to consistently qualify and get to 20 catches, then another month to push that to 30, then 3 more months to get to 50. Now I sit in the 30-60 catch range but I’m practicing more consistently now and aiming to get 100 catches soon. It’s such a frustrating, nonlinear learning experience. They really weren’t lying when they said you have to fight for every little bit of progress for 5 balls. But that makes breaking through and improving feel that much better!

    • @KingJrBG
      @KingJrBG 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually, throw accuracy in 5 balls can be forgotten (at least for myself, I used to do 40-50 catches 5 years ago). Started juggling again and my pattern usually starts to fall apart after 10-15 catches.

    Just wanted to send a huge 'Thank You' - you're videos have helped improve my juggling so much. I'm no expert, but in the past two years have gotten to a point where I can do a lot of 3 ball tricks like box, shower, and mills mess. Learnt chops with clubs and have a fair few 4 ball tricks down. Attempting 5 balls at the moment, and my record is around 40 catches, but can't do it with consistency. Trying to stick with the 15 mins everyday and hoping I will eventually get to 50 every time.

    I can confirm this tutorial works and is definitely the most complete work of its kind. I have used the same drills and finally qualified 5 balls yesterday. Just two notes from my personal experience:
    Cotinuous 55550 is not mentioned here. It is a harder version of 4 out of 5 and it feels to me like the last logical step before continuous 5-cascade.
    Another aspect not mentioned here is how relatively hard it is to throw/catch that "extra" fifth ball. I would definitely recommend holding all 5 and throwing/catching just that one extra ball with "hands full" to improve the speed and strenght of throws. With mine 78mm/150g balls it is quite a challenge :D

    Yes, for a die-hard pre-fiver like me, minute 6:00 is everything. The rest is just fine tuning. Height's not a problem for me, as I can juggle four balls in tight a foot high or do my usual with four: throwing one and two of them straight up several stories for a couple of minutes. Or I can ride my bike juggling four. But five? Five? Five blows my mind. And the sticking point is right there at minute 6:00, making that left hand release that second ball. I can feel the neurons burning up, resisting. For decades my brain hasn't wanted to release that second left. Right now my deck is covered with failed attempts. My neighbors who are used to me keeping four balls endlessly aloft must be wondering if I got old suddenly.

    A few years ago I spent a summer practicing for a good 30mins each day trying to learn 5 ball juggling. I got up to throwing and catching all 5 balls. But I stopped after the summer. I found it too hard.
    I think I am going to give it a whirl again using your technics. Thanks!

    Thanks for the great tutorial. I'd definitely send it to people who are learning 5.
    I have one remark though, it's about what you explain at 10:03.
    Of course "posture posture posture" is important for health and endurance. But the question of "what posture is right?" Is slightly more complicated than that. And if judging by the way people like Ofek Snir (and others who can go very long runs of 7) use their body when doing 7, many of them actually do hold their knees almost as high as you show as the "bad example".

    • @TaylorTries
      @TaylorTries  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      uriyurman I agree that some jugglers who are capable of juggling many objects (like Ofek) do have that habit, but I still think most jugglers would agree it’s a bad habit to have. I also think having that habit when juggling 9 balls is different than with 5. Most professional level jugglers don’t lift their arms when juggling 5, even if they acquire the habit with higher numbers. It makes sense to do it more with very high numbers because sometimes you need the extra momentum to make that high of a throw. That’s not the case with 5 balls.
      At the end of the day, I believe it’s still a bad habit to have because it puts extra strain on your shoulders, which are already prone to injury with juggling. So it’s best to break the habit as soon as possible.

    @Taylor In the video you said that the order in which we throw 3 balls in one hand is also the same order in which we catch them, but the demonstrations in the video are different orders (time stamps 7:25 vs. 7:33).

    • @TaylorTries
      @TaylorTries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! You’re absolutely right, not sure why I said that was the “same order” in the video. Ignore what I say and follow what I show 😄 Occasionally I definitely mess up my words, talking is hard!

    That bit about making sure the first throw is at the right height was something I'd never thought of before. I'm not ready for 5 balls yet as it is but I've tried 5 balls before just to see whether I could do it and can certainly relate to the need to get them all up as soon as possible and messily too.
