- Scarlet Jacobs, better known by her pseudonym Shinobu, is an 18-year-old African American assassin, the youngest confirmed ranked member of the UAA, and a high school student at the local Santa Destroy High School. She is ranked 8th in the UAA. Shinobu bears a grudge against Travis because she believes he murdered her father, though in truth Travis had idolized Shinobu's father so much so that he watched all of Jacobs' tapes until they wore out, but had never actually met him in person. Shinobu also goes to great lengths to hide her profession as an assassin from her fellow classmates, going so far as to kill a small group of students who overheard Travis challenging her to a ranking battle.
I’m inclined to agree with the theory that the only reason Shinobu was ranked 8th was because she had to balance her school life with less time to climb the ranks.
Imagine being sliced in half by someone having to worry about the physic essay they have the following day.
Either that or she's fairly new on the scene, she can't have been an assassin for all that long if she's still in high school

This is a world where lightsabres are common enough not to raise any eyebrows, but instead just get one labeled "otaku".
Thought: she was only 8th because she was so anxious about hiding her profession that she never had time to climb the ranks.
Given how much she kicks New Destroyman's ass in the second game, I'd say that's well supported
But at the same time isn't it suggested she kills her whole class?

I’d say that’s true given how skilled she is overall.
In a sense, she's clearly skilled, but not necessarily to get extremely far. She was really just more preoccupied with finding her father's murderer.
What always bothered me about Shinobu was that she was a lower rank than Destroyman....

She specifically stated she wanted to lay low and remain as undetected as possible.
Her goal was always Travis, not rank.
Jasper was only rank 1 in DS because he was rich. Dude was definitely below Alice and Margaret in lethality. Probably even Nathan.
Money seems to be way too important to the UAA, not too much of a stretch to believe it can all too easily influence rank. Harnet being a semi-successful actor on the side must have given him enough cash to buy his way into rank 7.

Its really all a matter of timing. Anyone can climb the ranks at any point. We just dont know when and who is gonna fight. Had travis not showed up shinobu may have gone ahead and took out destroyman. Clearly she could considering she beat 2 at once later. The same principle goes into how 25 rando cheerleaders are higher than Nathan and Helter skelter. Its all about who fights who. If some 6 year old meets Mayweather at a boxing tourneys that doesn't mean that the 6 year old is that good. Just means all the 4 year olds were in the 6 year olds way while more capable people never faced them.
When you’re about to kill her, but she does that one hit kill move.
This happened to me two weeks ago. And I kept dying to that move due to how quick she can be sometimes.
I just hid behind a wall and did the low charged attack. It's cheese but whatever, so is a one hit insta kill.
You can actually survive it, but it takes a ton of health.

such a sick fight. a bit janky but it's so cool how she dances around you and stuff and you have to completely change up how you fight. You can't just combo her out like most enemies after finding a opening.
Suda 51 is a terribly under appreciated fellow. Terribly under appreciated.

She was so hard to fight that the later battles became way too easy. She was the only character to instakill me.
This is my favourite boss battle (and one of the hardest surprisingly for a #8) and my favourite theme too. The others have great themes too but they quicly become repetitive. This one has a great evolution at 2:20
That breakdown is always a great start to my day.

Her multi-hit attack isn't an instant kill, but you have to have every health upgrade obtainable at this point, AND you have to have full health to survive it.
She is honestly the hardest fight in the game behind Henry on bitter mode (the hardest in the series is Jasper from NMH 2 but that's due to bullshit stun lock and teleporting)
Jasper on hard mode can go to HELL!!!!!!

plus her jumping mechanics in nmh2 were so bad! plus it doesnt help that u had to use them in both of her bosses! i love shinobu and ffighting her in nmh1 but fuck playing as her!

Not gonna lie. Her and Bad Girl were the hardest bosses for me so I find it funny that they're back for the 3rd.

Honestly Kimmy's not that bad as long as you keep your distance from her after hitting her a couple times then immediately retreat to charge up.
I felt that she was the hardest boss, she killed me like 5-6 times in normal and got me stuck like an hour on her battle, then everything smooth and on the first try until Bad Girl...

@yusurre Gouichi Suda is infamous for having mixed characters. So it's possible she's part Japanese. Her father was a famous swordsman who dabbled in the arts, so it makes sense that she studies the art of Bushido.

Aaaanyway, as for fighting her.
A dark room, with run down structure, places to hide, as well as her walking slowly until you got up to her was great. The fight didn't get me pumping as well as Dr. Peace and Death Metal, until about half way in. I had her half-way down, then realized I had one hit left of HP.
That's when I realized this game isn't "the fancier, the better". She was fighting with old-world weaponry and non-exagerated skill (other than Sonic Sword), but managed to kick my ass hard
I can't believe I never checked this song out! I've only watched LPs of this game so I couldn't get a good listen at this music, but now I fucking dig it!
Well, there's Fortune from MGS2. Arguably one of the most hardass women, let alone black women in video games. She's set up to believe she has powers, and is later revealed to be just average- and she still denies the hand she's dealt and shows she's got skill and determination. She's always been one of my favorites.

For me she was the second toughest boss in the game right behind Jeane, and yet she was very low in the rankings. WTF?
Shinobu was the hardest boss in the game, at least on Bitter.
I'm assuming it's a perspective thing (similar to how her fight hand appears to be larger than the other due to it being closer to the viewer)
the words are shinobi what shinobu's name comes from and is a reference to her being a 'samurai'
Imagine the possibilities if Travis spared another assassin in the rankings. Maybe not Shinobu, but somehow Holly Summers, or Dr. Peace for whatever reason. What if another assassin fought alongside with Travis :v
He tried to spare one of the assassins in nmh 2 but Silvia gunned him down he was one of the better bosses in that game too
He tried to not kill Holly. Didn't end well. And he spared Ryuji in NMH2, only for him to be gunned down.

Probably because she knew when and where the battle was going to be but didn't want to skip class so as to maintain the illusion, nor would she want to be unarmed for the battle. I bet she would have killed her classmates at the end of the day if Travis didn't show up. Wonder if she told them.

Skin is just a package for a beautiful soul that lies beneath and that is very similar to yours, no matter what skin colour you have. I know poeple who are shocked when they see a black VG/comic/manga character, arguing said character must be indian or just dark tanned. The reason are of generations of cliches they have accumulated concerning black skin. And that's dumb. People should get over skin colour, i hope it happens while I'm still alive to witness.

I agree. I died 2 times against Shinobu but against Destroyman it only took one try. I admit, I ALMOST died but...if it took me only one try against him then Shinobu should have been after Destroyman.

This fight took me like 10 tries on my first play through cause I was trying to mash buttons to win and I learned that I couldn’t do that
It took me less than a minute on bitter mode due to me having the infinite battery upgrade

I don't really think race matters. The fact that the game was made in japan (a very racist country), yet little racism came from this girl was magnificent. The fact that americans (who should have been over racism YEARS ago) have to dislike the fact she is black is upsetting.

Second EDIT: I didn't expect editing a 9 year old comment would just completely supplant the old comment with the edit. For context the old comment was me saying something like Jeanne's boss fight being easy if you just low charge the mk3 or something but I also wrote it like "wat it's ez" and I don't write stuff like that or any of my other 9 year old comments on here anymore and seeing it gave me whiplash.
