Sephiroth's theme may make you think 'I'm going to die'....but this song so well conveys Kefka's complete insanity. It makes you think 'Oh f^#% this guy is insane...I'm about to die' It's just so creepily awesome...
Why are people comparing Sephiroth to Kefka. Apples and Oranges. Both were powerful enough to destroy the world so a who would win argument is kind of dumb, and they're both polar opposites character wise. Sephiroth is a tortured experiment gone-wrong, and Kefka is a power-hungry lunatic who actually obtains ultimate power. Any argument about which is superior is a Nostalgia tainted argument. (Note: I'm more of a Kefka fan. I loved Sephiroth, but they kind of killed him with Advent Children and that PSP prequel, I'm glad they've mostly left Kefka untouched).
I think you can make a reasonable argument for Kefka being superior on the grounds that he does not represent the horrible descent of Japanese media into the aesthetic nightmare they are currently trapped in
Well, they're not so different as people think. They both have similar origins in terms of being failed experiments, and they're both cruel, barking mad sociopaths with god complexes. Kefka's just more fun. And actually active in the story for the most part. Sephiroth's time is mainly spent tucked away in the Northern Cave while Jenova does all the work. Not to mention that Kefka actually succeeds, ruins the world, alters it's very composition, and even destroys one last thing with his death: magic - and therefore the Espers/Magicite. Meanwhile, Sephiroth tries, and fails, to destroy the world on two separate occasions. He doesn't even manage to kill Cloud alone, nevermind the human race. The only massive thing he really accomplishes is killing Aerith, and let's face it, loved as she is, it wasn't really a big deal. Besides, Sephiroth succeeded in killing her but he didn't achieve his goal of preventing Holy's casting - Aerith had cast it already. Then he manages to inflict Geostigma on the world, but what came of that? He still failed to destroy the world. Or anybody, this time. Kefka enslaved Terra, set Figaro Castle of fire, killed poisoned the entire kingdom of Doma (save Cyan), killed Leo, brought the Gestahlian Empire to and end single-handedly, achieved apotheosis, destroyed the world, pushed humanity to the brink of ruin, exterminated Espers and caused magic to disappear forever. Sephiroth killed the local florist messed with Cloud's head and summoned a rock. And that wasn't even "him", it was Jenova. I used to be a big Sephy fan, before I was aware of the ins and outs. I still think he's pretty awesome, but if I were ever to be dragged into a Kefka vs Sephiroth debate, I'd argue Kefka every time. But it is a really tired and pointless argument, even more so for someone like me who has no nostalgia to draw on (as I'm not an "original" fan).
And the best part is he makes fun of all of their accomplishments in Dissidia, so he has the balls to go up to every villain and say he's better, and prove it too.
When Kefka said Mama's Boy was dangerous on so many levels, he was referring to the fangirls that go off like bombs when the one-winged emo is criticized.
Eeeh... Kefka WAS laying siege to a castle. And he was winning, too. He could've just played the waiting game and victory would've been secured... But who wants to win a battle with minimum casualties anyway? GENOCIDE HOOO!!
I dont know... Is not like I wouldnt like to see kefka again, is one of my favourites characters ever but... Does his style really fits on Kingdom Hearts tematic without making him just "a bad clown"?
I think they made a heartless version of him and the warring triad in one of the side games as a boss. No sign of the Clown himself (unless it WAS his actual heartless), but close enough so far.

True to some degree, although many villains such as in OP do seek power in order to directly challenge the top of their world. In naruto the akatsuki heads seek more power in order to destroy everything. In DBZ this was more the case... but most villains like this seem to seek more power to consolidate their position or gain some sort of assurance that their plan will succeed. But yeah mainly an anime thing. Still u cant say that Croc in OP wasn't a good villain, he was devious and cunning

In FF7 Sephiroth was rather a victim than a villain. The real villains of ff7 are President Shinra, Palmer, Professor Hojo and Jenova (at least in the prehistory when she was alive)

If you have not played the games you should not say that. Both became the same kind of "godly being". Both absorbed the source of magic. Kefka the power of the statues and Sephiroth the knowledge and wisdom of the Cetra.
Kefka was my most hated(but in a good way) boss/antagonist character, he has done so many things but was pityful, even if he became a god. And having to kill him in three times, thinking that before he escaped our battles was somehow frustating and pleasing at the same time...
This version is appropriate for Kefka before his ambitions were apparent. He was still a member of high society, eccentric, bent on conquering cities in the name of the Empire, but not so grandiose as to warrant the original theme.
Actually, Seymour didn't quite wipe the Ronso off the face of Spira. He came close, and they might eventually die off due to inbreeding, but it's hard to say. There were still some Ronso left if you check back on them near the end of the game, and they seemed to have more-or-less recovered in FFX-2.
I feel like you're all getting distracted by the wrong questions. It's not important whether Kefka or Sephiroth are "better". What's really important is to see that they're all just products, children of Yoshitaka. HE LIVES IN OUR REALITY, GUYS! WE HAVE TO STOP HIM!
I saw the Final Fantasy Show today in Paris, Distant Worlds They didn't even play this music... All Sephiroth fanboys cried to have One Winged Angel at the end. Nobuo Uematsu was here and didn't even complain ! Come on !
I wouldn't say she was the worst. Just she didn't get much chance to shine in FF3 because she was practically Xande's replacement. But judging by her actions in Dissidia where she actually did get a chance, she was one of the better villains.

Well, it's kind of dumb, and I kinda like ol' grey head Seph' too, but... Seph's juste some abandonned mama boy. Kefka is just pure madness. There's somethin' much more frightenin' in Kefka. As fuckin' crazy as Seph' and his clones are, they retain a certain sanity, they kinda know what they are doin'. Kefka has no fuckin' purpose. He just rejoices in destruction and a million voices screamin' in unison. Kefka was prolly one time a good bloke, kinda normal... But these magitek experiments destroyed its sanity. Now he just wanna have fun by crushin' everyone and everythin that stands in his way. If nobody ever came to defeat him, he woul' just prolly have destroyed the universe, then himself, with a last laugh. Sephiroth has limits. Kefka have none.
For all his composure, Sephiroth is equally as insane as Kefka (I mean, he DID try to nuke the entire planet with Meteor). The difference lies in the focus of their madness; Botched Magitek experiments rendered Kefka incapable of really caring or feeling about anything, and he desperately tried to fill that with sadistic, destructive glee. It got to the point that he saw value only in the destruction of things, as all is destined to die someday. And so he didn't appreciate it when the world he kept blowing up from his tower ALWAYS found ways to continue living. Sephiroth, meanwhile, spent his entire life as SOLDIER's pride and glory. The only two people he ever considered equals, however, met there ends, and thus the only thing he could ever have faith or trust in was his own self; in other words, his pride. But then came Nibelheim, and Sephiroth's pride as an awesome human was shattered with the knowledge that he was not far removed from test-tube monsters. His desperate attempts to piece his broken pride back together resulted in multiple delusions, like "I am the Ancients' herald" or "I am the Chosen One". Everything he did was out of a desire to piece together this broken faith in himself... and so he was NOT amused at being killed by a lowly nobody. Twice.
-and forced to remember grows all the more foul as the rage that sustained him in his transformation is quickened, a parasitic god with the latent rage and irrationality of a man. that is what gives it merit as an antagonist... well I hope that wall of maddening typing is of any use to the argument, I cannot take any sides myself I cannot compare either Kefka or Sephiroth hell I cannot compare most of the fictional characters unless of course they shared a defining concept between them.

Yup, Kefka will be the perfect main vilain for the next Kingdom Heart.
@masterodisastr He didn't break my heart lol. Sephiroth is a pretty good FF villain and I like his story a lot and him as a villain. One of my favorite video game villains. The death of Aerith(Aeris) was very sad. Between Kefka and Sephiroth I prefer Kefka because he is more twisted.
