As said below by me, a fantastically detailed video. I did my ASTRA belt yesterday and it really helped....HERE IS A GREAT TIP THOUGH: DO not fit the jockey/idler pulley before fitting the new belt!...Fit the belt on the other pulleys FIRST and THEN fit the jockey puller by sliding it into position passed the slack belt. Then INSERT the bolt and torque up (80Nm) It makes fitting the toothed belt a real doddle....Try it next time....PS: if your jockey pulley has a guide lip (my original did!) you won't be able to do this trick so easily, but many kits have a smooth pulley (yours did) which will slide in passed the belt's flat surface. Even so it still might be possible to use this technique with a lipped version :)

Fuel pump lock hole was the one to the right of the one showed after turning the engine ? I could see the threaded hole next to the one you showed. What could happen if fuel pump not aligned ? It is just a transfer pump after all and not needed timed anyway

Hi thanks for all your hard work in bringing this video to us, however i have watched many 1.7CDTI cam belt change videos and none show how to lock the crankshaft they all mention and show how the cam and fuel pump are locked but not the crank! Is it not lockable ?

Not the smartest but I'm hands on and learn watching you professionals, I know a lot of things are the same with the Mokka, For example, I saved money on glow plugs (expensive ones) iF YOU HAVE A MOKKA, tHEIR 80 If you have an astra there 110, Same glow plug but diifferent price ect. Superbly Detailed and the best on TH-cam....Very many thanks for making and showing. With everything shown and described so well, it gives me complete confidence to replace my one. I would say these timing belts seem to appear hardly worn when even done 100K miles and makes me think my engine with a genuine 35K miles but 19 years old might be OK too. I guess peace of mind is everything though, but it does make me think long and hard as not to bother.....Any thoughts on this DIYDaly?.... Many thanks again :)

I replaced my timing belt whilst the crankshaft, camshaft and fuel pump pulleys we're all perfectly aligned. But when I rotate the crankshaft clockwise 2 full rotations, the fuel pump and camshaft pulleys are out of alignment. However if I rotate the crankshaft a further 2 turns, all are aligned perfectly again.
I don't recall turning the crankshaft during removal or fitting, except maybe a few degrees struggling with the belt.
Why do I need 4 rotations of the crank to align, and what should I do to solve this please?

Great job! I have the same engine on my Astra and the timing belt change was a simple work to do on this engine. just be careful when tightening the tensioner roller, that it does not rotate increasing the tension of the belt, for this purpose I always held the Allen key in the tensioner with the other hand for safety. Now I would like to buy another Astra but due to the frequency of the 1.6 timing chain problems with consequent removal of gearbox, crankcase, injectors and half engine for a chain, I am losing the desire ....

Was it running or have you had an issue? That must be at least 3 teeth out! Which I wouldn’t expect it to run at .. if it’s definetly out you need to just set it right and try it .. always turn the engine over my hand first to make sure it’s not locking up though 👍
