Tom kept AVA a secret for quite a while. Even in it's early years when they were called Box Car Racer. I'd also be upset if my "brother" kept a big secret from me and then made merch and wore it around me.

The last album i heard from them was in 2003, and since then so much has changed for better or for worse. Between growing up and finding who i really am as a person. This band did serve as a part of my life. With my demeanor and "punk rock attitude" i had along with the influence of some other bands i used to listen to. And how some of it still carried over in my life growing these past 20 years. Looking at them now brings back bittersweet memories that give me mixed emotions, nostalgia. Whether it be for them as a band or me as an individual. Both smiles and a few tears has been shed. And if its one thing that i did learn, is to appreciate All the small things, in life. No matter what they are.

Okay so I didn't get it until now but Matt saying incorrect to Marks "starters of the emo trend" is actually super funny. Matt's original band (Alkaline Trio) started in 1996 which wasn't the start of the emo trend but I'd for sure say they definitely were a HUGE part of it.
I think as bands get older and especially once they've had success, they don't really care what you call them. Teenagers fight over who's really punk and who's pop and who's emo and who's pop-punk, but I seriously doubt Mark cares. If anything, I have the impression from the last few albums that he is excited to incorporate new styles and he doesn't just want to be the pop-punk guy after 30 years. He's going to make his music and people can call it whatever they want. So he just says "rock" because that is what their music is in the most general sense. Nobody can argue with that.

Tom And Scott founded the band. Tom was looking for someone to Start a band with, and saw Scott perform at a Battle of the bands at the School both of them were attending. Scott heard about this from his friend, and both him and Tom met up at a party and started Jamming thereafter. Mark joined through his sister who was hanging out with Tom at the time. Scott and Mark would leave and come back at some point during the early days, but Tom was always the consistent member of the band up until his departure in 2015
