  • Alembic Cache is a specific file format from Sony Pictures.
The Alembic file format gives you the freedom to create complex animations externally, then bring them into UE5 and render them in real-time.
It is an exchange format that supports a lot of data. It can be a great alternative to .fbx
    Now let's learn how to export from @BlenderOfficial to @UnrealEngine :) !

4 months of using UE5 and i didn't know that origin/pivot changing technique even existed. Really helpful

Bro You have solved my problem. I spent 3 weeks with a USDC cache not working at all in Unreal5 and no one had the answers. If you run for president I will find a way to vote for you.

The alembic format is a really powerful tool, however full disclaimer : be SUPER careful for what you use it for in a game context. The memory footprints of these files can be a complete production killer when it comes down to optimisation. I know it was only and example for the sake of showing export/import, but this spring in a game context should never be an alembic, as this type of animation can be done multiple other ways (shaders, bones, in game rigging, etc). The reason i'm giving this warning is that alembic just cannot be optimized unless re-exporting everything with less frame and reducing the playrate resulting in a massive quality drop. Just food for though tho ;) Thanks for the video !

Hi Gabriel , I've just answered your question in my last video, maybe it'll be more useful than explaining everything in writing! I hope you like it 🤩

Everytime i try to import Alembic from Blender into Unreal i get an error message saying that my file is not "a valid Alembic" . Any clues?

      Hey Victor !
Hmmm this could be a lot of thing. Is it animated ? Try to check the scale, from blender you have to x100. Sometimes, triangulate during export could help getting rid of some issues as well.

Well, i figured out i just cant export from blender 4.x to Unreal 5.3 or 5.2. But if i make the exact same export from blender 3.1, no problem at all. I am having to use old blender when i need to export allembic.

      Oh that’s weird ! I’m using blender 4. and I don’t have issues like that 🧐

By the way, i was making a water simulation, so yes, an animation. About the scale, i tried everything. Scaling up the hole scene, scaling up just the export, scaling both, literally, everything.

does anybody have a problem with UE5 crashing anytime you import an abc file?

@@ProjProd I'm having the same carsh issue. In the alembic is only a very low precision fluid simulation.

Hi Ahmed ! Thanks a lot for your support, glad you like my videos.
I’m working on a Niagara FX system directly on UE5 in order to make this kind of effect. I’ll try to work in the near future on something similar in Blender to UE as well. Don’t hesitate to subscribe in order to be notified 🙏

    • @ProjProd
      @ProjProd  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@IstiakAhmed_UE5_VR-Dev it really depends, VDB is now well supported on 5.3 with SVT. Niagara FX will use this as well. Alembic might be different and not appropriate if you want to make somthing interactive. Feel free to check out my video on the 5.3 preview where I give the roadmap explaining new features of VDB/SVT: th-cam.com/video/2TQXjTPiDaU/w-d-xo.html
