I visited Madeira a long time ago, while on a cruise, was working as a nanny at the time, but what a fabulous experience to arrive there at night time, all lit up. Precious memories that will last a lifetime.
Oh I bet. I'm from Terceira but living in the San Francisco bay area. I hadn't known about Madeira till I seen these videos [of planes landing in windy conditions]. But from what I seen this island is amazingly beautiful. Would I buy a retirement home there? I don't know. I'm still partial to Terceira [being my home island]. They're all beautiful. .but this one is truly exceptional. Agreed?
@Asha Green well, I came to the states when I was 20 months old. not even 2 years old. . .But as the internet became available I began to learn the extent of the Portuguese empire and all the points made along the path to India. Fascinating. And now Madeira is a beautiful island full of Portuguese culture. I'd love to see that.

There is just not anything more beautiful than “ this pearl in the Atlantic “ and one of the highlights are the the wonderful people that live on this amazing place. I visited the island of Madeira in May 2011. I rented a car, explored and hiked on the island. It is a beautiful mountainous island with a flower paradise. It is well worth visiting the island of Madeira.

Sooooo Beautiful!!!!❤️ Going to Madeira Portugal next month... can't wait😊 We stopped in Funchal Madeira Portugal for a day on a 23 day Mediterranean Cruise 3 years ago...we swore we would return to this beautiful place one day. I can't wait to spend 2 whole weeks exploring!
3 times I‘ve been & Porto Moniz & it’s natural swimming area is my favorite locale. I also have a picture up in the mountains that is truly amazing & will someday download. Such an incredible variety of landscape with everything from a desert, 25 fountains, nearby to Fanal, Levadas, even a Fado bar in downtown Funchall & the mountains in the center of the island. However, if one is looking for smooth beaches for sun bathing you won‘t find any to speak of.
@Prince Henry The navigator why does mass tourism keep you away? They mostly go to gran canaria and tenerife and also to fuerteventura and lanzarote. There seems to be no mass tourism in la gomera, la palma and el hierro. I have spoken to many europeans, especially from england, that only want to go to gran canaria and tenerife and stay in a resort there and use the pool for swimming. Maybe go to the nearby beach for sunbathing. This seems to be enough to them and they are not interested in doing much else and exploring further. There are many people like that and those resorts are full. How come this is not attractive to you?

Porto Santo about 4-5 Hours on the Ferry northeast of Madeira has white sand beaches but otherwise has little landscape of interest. I also spotted on a map one other island that looks uninhabited but may also have beaches for sun bathing. Having fair skin lying in the sand is not a priority with me. Madeira has all the variety of terrain that I need.
So looking forward to visiting Madeira in November for are wedding anniversary, we will be visiting some of the amazing gardens that’s for sure, what is the weather like in November? Wandering what clothes to pack?!? 😀😊

If u r going to the mountains, bring walking boots & suited garments; dont forget to hydrate, skin care produts; night life is usually quiet, but a cool dress/classy shoes are also handy. It won't be so easy to visit Madeira during a trip to Portugal as Madeira is located over 1000km away, but I would definitely recommend it! :)
