10/10 finale! Can’t believe our Avatar journey is over. Loved every bit of it. Korra will begin on the channel this time next week! We finish Season 1 next week over on Patreon for anyone wanting to jump ahead! www.patreon.com/carlie_and_ange
I love that they went that way. It's two young siblings, in a better world- a better family, they would have always had each others back and supported each other. But there wasnt time to redeem her. Zuko and Azula's Agni Kai is a tragedy.
Totally agree. That song, The Final Agni-Kai, has become legendary...I've seen orchestras play it in massive theatres, with a full crowd, and they have the fight playing in the background on a big projector screen.
Katara being focused on the war and not on her feelings for Aang is pretty in line with her character, she was very serious about ending the war, and some people's priorities are just different.
They were hinted at numerous times. And even appeared directly in the unaired pilot. They were a key part of the story before audiences ever even saw it on television.
Aang was hit in the spot that was keeping his chakras blocked. Yes, Aang was using the Seismic Sense that he learned from toph. They show him using it in the runaway episode when toph and Katara are training Aang.
Thank you for choosing Aang Ange, i have seen so many reactions many choose zuko and my boy Aang gets pushed down because zuko having an arc, not realizing both went through same situations but Aang was already an Iroh from start of the show and saw positivity with everything and never gave up on any character of the show
@@IsurOo I don't know why Korra gets so much hype. In comparison to ATLA and especially as a sequel, it sucks! As a stand alone yeah it would be ok but as an Avatar show no. It fucked ATLA so over, I hate it for that.
@@Mandred85 I wouldn't go so far and say it fucked it over. It just made us appreciate atla that much more for how good it is. And i'd say Korra get's as much hate at as it gets love. Which is 100% fair. If Korra get's a lot of hype it's because the people who give it hype are focusing on all the positives compared to those who focus on all the negatives.
In my opinion, letting Ozai live powerless is a much more fitting punishment than killing him. He gets to live and see Zuko (the son he hates) slowly but surely destroy his legacy and hard work.
OH MY GOD! Carlie is first reactor who called that Katara kissed him at the end. Mike and Brian were so detailed in the making. Aang kissed her when she didn't want it before, so in the final scene, he doesn't engage or even move closer, but let's her come to him so he knows he's not overstepping again. Such a small detail, but so impactful.
I think Carlies point wasn’t about that exactly, rather she pointed it out because it shows Katara has feelings for Aang. Lol Because believe it or not, she somehow said she’s seen no signs throughout the show that Katarra had feelings for Aang. (Lol I think the potential of Zuko + Katara blinded her)
@Austin.Kilgore I was just expanding on why Katara kissing him is so important. I know she wasn't saying this specifically, but she's still the only reactor I recall that points out that she kisses him.
Funnylilgalreacts is a great reaction channel that also noticed that detail, in case you wanted another reactor who noticed that detail. She's also very emotional and heartfelt like these two so I feel you'd enjoy her content
36:00 I interpret that scene as Azula hallucinating how she wished her mother would have spoken to her. I think she starts crying after her mom says “I love you, Azula. I do”, because Azula didn’t hear it enough when her mom was there. It’s interesting that at her lowest point, she’s subconsciously craving her mother’s support and love.
That also what I thought, after everyone left she realized she wished her mother there talk to her. I mean her mom never really said she hate her or something, it's just zuko more closer to mom so she think mom doesn't love her. It is really sad.
@@gsintampalamI’ve always believed Ozai played a major role in Azula not believing Ursa loved her. It would be in line of his character if he manipulated his young daughter to believe that so she could be the weapon he wanted to be.
I always saw it as it's her finally realizing that her mother actually DID love her (unlike mai and ty lee who only feared her) because she can see the difference now, and it destroys her emotionally because she spent so long believing the lie that her mother hated her.
a fact that i love about the agni kai between zuko & azula: remember when iroh teached zuko some techniques from the other nations long ago? zuko is using them in the fight. if you listen carefully, you can hear each element he is currently using. for example: 12:57 you can hear air when he’s bending fire, and right after in the uncut version should come earth, 13:16 is also earth and 13:23 is an air technique that you can also hear the air of. it is a detail i love the most out of all, it adds so much to it and also shows how much he extended his bending especially compared to azula here. I loved your reaction to every single episode!
My personal story id tell of avatar is a corruption of the avatar and they become like injustice superman and the MC is just obviously a singular element bender but have them study and apply all of the other elements fighting styles to their own. So they become an avatar of a sorts through study and application of what theyve learned
@@unclebobboomergamesand that’s why you’re not a writer for ATLA. You missed the core part of what the series is about. Balance. Since the Avatar is the only one that can connect to the spirit world, there would be no balance between the human world and the spirit world.
Piandao doesn't get enough credit in the final fight to reclaim Ba Sing Se. Dude is a non-bender, fighting overpowered genders from the comet, and WINNING. Such a badass.
Thank you, Carlie and Angelo for watching (re-watching) this beautiful and fantastic series with me in the past few months. I waited till you uploaded all the last few episodes, so I kinda am late to the party since I was watching it as you were uploading the videos then 😂 Another rough year for me, but watching this show again with you guys helped a lot.
That was me… and I felt sadness, too. Because through it all, you realize Azula was just a 14 year old girl who never stood a chance with a psychopath for a father. The best thing their father did for Zuko was banish him… it saved him from a similar fate as Azula.
@@tmc31390 obviously azula had been influenced by her father, but dont make it seem like she wouldve been good or something. She is evil, most of her father's cunning evil thoughts are in her.
Loved watching my all time favourite show with the best reactors on this app. This show is more than just a show fr, its a masterpiece, cant wait to rewatch Korra with you two 😊
13:10 : one of the main reasons why Zuko is dominating in this battle is that he listened to Iroh and learnt from the other bending arts : earthbending (staying on the same spot and blocking attacks), waterbending (more fluid movements, switching from defense to attack and back) and airbending (dynamic jumps to evade attacks). Team Avatar really rubbed off on him. Not to mention his Sun Warrior style of firebending, as opposed to Azula's, purely fueled by rage and hatred, which gives greater power but makes you lose focus and control.
All of the characters journeys are represented perfectly how in they fight in this final battle. The storytelling is done through imagery and action, it's awesome
i think one thing that sticks out as important to me about the way aang ends up dealing with ozai is how not only were aangs people killed, but so much of his culture now only lives on through him. i have seen a lot of people say over the years that he should have been forced to make that choice, because it would have been a more 'mature' decision from the writers. but honestly i couldn't disagree more. if aang had killed ozai, he would have lost a part of his peoples culture to the same type of villain who perpetrated its near extinction in the first place. which is a large reason why it has always been one of my favorite parts of the show.
I will continue to say it: Avatar is one of the best series I have ever watched and I love it to death. But that final battle was cheap. I get the whole "not killing" but he didnt even had to struggle with it. He just had a easy way out of what was suppost to be his responsability. He didnt even find it himself. If he had found a way himself to not kill the firelord I would be cool with it or even if he was ready to do it but then he received that power. But no. He was unsure of doing it and a random turtle appears and gave him the way out. Very cool scene of him getting the power and using it, but totally cheap 😅
Yeah, it was a bit clumsy how it was introduced. Far from a perfect plotline. But it hits hard and has a lot of narrative value, as the original commenter said.
@@dudu-fo7hz i get what you are saying but 1. it wasnt cheap in terms of him being able to do it, he had to be resolute in the decision to not kill. 2. if he didnt do it this way, he wouldve some other way, because Aang would not kill him, and it makes sense for his character to not kill him. It isnt "a way out" he didnt circumvent killing or not killing, he chose to not kill.
People don't see to understand the entire point of energybending: if Aang had ever, at any given moment, truly considered killing Ozai, he wouldn't have been able to do it. He said it to Momo back at the Lion Turtle, and he pointed the redirected lightning at Ozai, but he knew in his heart he wasn't gonna do it. I just wish they had done some better foreshadowing for it, because I do like the idea.
The last Agni Kai is pure perfection. I love the whole music and ambience setup, the show dosen't revel in this duel, it really respects how what we are seeing ubfolding is nothing less than a tragedy. These are two children, two siblings, trying to murder eachother, because they're both victims of the same monster of a father. I do find Aangs decision not to throw the lightning into Ozais face. At that point, he is losing. Losing badly at that, he never even landed a blow. Yet, with redirections he could end it there. And while him choosing to stay true to his spiritual core is good, in so doing he is choosing his values over the earth kingdom. Remember, Aang didn't know he would luckily unlock the avatar state. Also I love the tiny full circle moment. Like Katara freezing herself, and melting the ice with breath. That's Zuko's techinque she just learnt. Speaking of Zuko, he now has a nice scar on his chest to match the one Aang has on his back. Both bestowed by Azula.
Agreed about Aang choosing not to redirect it at Ozai. It might not have even killed him. I mean Zuko threw it back at him and he survived. He is choosing himself over the Earth Kingdom at that moment. As the previous airbender avatar said. You need to sacrifice your own spiritual needs for the greater good. Or how Aunt May said to Spiderman “Sometimes to do what’s right, we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams”. I always liked that line. But it’s one of the very few nitpicks about the show. I think Aang should have had to either killed him or let him die by some other means. Still 10/10.
@@coltonpiper6156zuko didn't really redirect the lightning at him tho, he directed it to the ground close to ozai. If it had his body he would be dead
@@Ugedred rewatched and you are correct. Ozai is kind of dumb for that though. I guess he really didn’t think highly of Zuko as a teacher. Because if he did, he would have assumed Zuko would teach Aang hoe to redirect.
The music in the Agni Kai between Azula and Zuko is absolutely incredible. Apparently the creators really pushed for an orchestral score for it, and it really pays off.
I’ve seen this so many times and I still cry thinking about the fact that Azula is legit just 14 years old. Insane how a despicable role model can ruin a kids life.
4:40 Just imagine the terror of the fire nation soldiers after seeing a little girl kicking down a massive iron door and then merge with it, becoming a ferocious iron golen
Zuko risking his own life to save Katara's is like her mom sacrificing herself for her again. So by defeating Azula and saving him, it's like overcoming the worst event of her life.
That Last Agni Kai is without a single doubt one of the greatest buildup and battles ever produced. It hits on so many levels, and the art direction absolutely nailed it with every decision.
Aang did hint that he wanted a glue that wont make firelord bend in the ep before he went missing and the lion turtle is hinted season 2 in the library.
Wow, I've watched this 1000 times and I guess never noticed that Katara was the one who leaned in for the kiss versus when it was Aang before the invasion.
This is it. The finale to a great show. Time to do one final analysis. Azula is honestly one of my favorites from Avatar. Her father teaches her that trust is a weakness. That love is for fools. Because he doesn't love his own family. He plots against his brother in his time of emotional grief, he plays a part in his father's death(implied), scars his own child, and then separates Azula from her mother by teaching her how to do things his way. Azula then goes to keep everyone at arms length. Except for Mai and Ty Lee. And even with them, she still employs some of the manipulation techniques that her father told her worked so well. After all, he's the Firelord. One of the most powerful and influential people alive. He is living proof that using people gets you what you want. That it makes you truly happy. So she does that. She tells herself that, "almost isn't good enough" whenever she slips up even a little bit. Everything has to be perfect. Because when his children are less than perfect, they get treated like Zuko. But Ozai could never treat Azula like Zuko. He obviously has trust in her. She takes down most of team Avatar, she nearly drills into Ba Sing Se, she almost takes out her uncle(a powerful thorn in the side of anyone he goes against), she infiltrated the impenetrable city and brought it down from the inside. "You were never even a player." She brought down the Avatar and had it not been for spiritual water, would've ended the cycle there and then. She has a small slip of emotion when talking about how her mother treated her and gives a small glimpse at her insecurities but quickly brushes it aside. She holds off Team Avatar even when she doesn't have her bending. Then it all falls apart during the boiling rock. Mai loves Zuko more than he fears her. But that's impossible. Ozai said fear was the only rational way. Then Ty Lee betrays her as well. An even further impossibility. It can't be happening. Then Ozai looks at all of the hard work she's done and casts her aside. He gives her a position and then immediately makes an even better one for himself and leaves her at home. After everything she's done, he treats her like Zuko. Azula then begins to panic. Because fear isn't working. Everyone is either leaving or she makes them leave because she's starting to fear that they'll inevitably betray her. To the point where she has to imagine her mother telling her that she LOVES her. Azula smashes the mirror as she realizes that her father left her with nothing. And it all culminates in that final battle. Where she makes mistakes that she would never have made. Slips up. And has a breakdown. Because she was supposed to have everything. She had fear. Zuko was supposed to have nothing. He had weakness. He had love. So why were the roles reversed? Why did her father abandon her? Why did her friends leave? All of that on the shoulders of a 14 year old girl. And it broke her. And that makes Azula's story so tragic to me.
Aang thinking about glue bending Ozai's arms so he could not bend was a sneaky foreshadowing to how Aang will finally find his own way on how to deal with Ozai. Katara also defeating Azula by subduing her bending by freezing her and then binding her hands is another foreshadowing to the energy bending. Kataang in the same wavelength.
That final scene of Azula & seeing how broken she became has been one of the few scenes that have stayed with me YEARS after I've watched ATLA. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Kept on crying and satisfied seeing her fire breathe and breakdown cry at the end... I had brother and daddy issues... But luckily I found my Iroh outside of family...
I watched avatar on its premiere night and stayed along for the journey until the series finale from 10 to 13 years old. I've watched it a million times over and I still get chills rewatching it with reactors on youtube. So glad yall enjoyed the journey!! Thinking about the music behind both final battles, I feel like Aang and Ozai's music reflected how frantic the saving of the world is at this moment. It's the world's final chance and the anxiety behind how important it is for Aang to win is reflected in the sounds. With Azula and Zuko, the music is almost solemn. Tragic. A battle between siblings that shouldn't need to happen, but has to because of the state of things. I love how much thought and preparation was put into Avatar aand how it truly stands the test of time. My favorite show of all time!! As an OG fan, I will say Korra is GOOD and definitely stands on its own. I don't like to compare the two because I feel like the intention the writer's had with ATLA was so different. I think Korra was only supposed to be one season (from what I remember), but they got greenlit for more and had to add on. They did what they could and it was good on its own merit. It's said that the writers knew from episode 1 Zuko was going to be Aang's firebending teacher and with the overall aang having to save the world and defeat Ozai, they just needed to fill in the blanks for the story vs Korra not really having the same kind of story makes them vastly different. But Korra is a cool Avatar and she's got Aang in her so I rock with her LOL edit: The fact that Aang's VA was about the same age as Aang also blows my mind. Like he was killing it at 12 years old!! Amazing work. Also I'm with Ange on the Kataang thing. I always thought even as a kid, Katara was hesitant because of the war 😭 Aang needed to focus on that, not her LOL
17:15 I think his chakras were physically blocked because of his injuries from azula attacking him and not spiritually blocked. So when his back hits that rock sticking out the tramua like jolts them open is how i look at it.
For a lot of what happens afterwards with Azula and Zuko finding his mother you will have to read the Comics. There are some interesting stories there such as the complications of a fire colony actually forming good relationship with the native earth kingdom residents and actually having people have families that are multicultural/ethnic. The complexities of is it right to separate those families etc.
@natalimoina Unfortunately the colony ones are the best handled of the comics. The shit they pulled with Zuko's mother made me wish she was actually dead. It was so so dumb. You could feel the absence of Aaron Eshaz in the writer's room
Aang's injury by Azula blocked that one specific chakra point on his back. The rock pretty luckily acted like Ty Lee's fists and unblocked that same chakra point.
Even if the energy bending wasn’t foreshadowed well, I give it credit for tying very strongly into Aang’s existing struggle that was built up through the season. Aang was the ONLY person who could do it, since he refused to comprise his own character
36:00 I dont interpret that scene with Azula hallucinating her mother that way. I see it as Azula subconsciously hallucinating what she wished her mother would've said and would've treated her like. During the beach episode Azula said her mother saw her as a monster and we can see that pained her. This is a clear distinction between her mother in her hallucinations (Saying she loves her) and her mother in her childhood (Saw her as a monster). Those 2 things cannot be true at the same time. If her mother told her she loves her frequently, Azula wouldn't think her mom thought of her as a monster. That's why Azula's lips quiver when she says "I love you, I do" in the hallucination. Because it pains her to hear the words she wanted most yet never got. That's how i interpret it.
I love that Iroh was able to break down the wall of Ba-Sing Se with one concentrated move, while they needed a massive drill engine normally. Goes to show just how insanely strong firebending gets during the comet.
As kids we never knew qhat kind of masterpiece we got and here we are,all mostly adults appreciating this series. i wish we had more seasons from the show. every episode was just so perfect.
There was no mentions of energy bending (I don’t believe so at least) but there was like 2 or 3 mentions of Lion-Turtles and them being the biggest creatures on earth. Even the picture of a lion turtle in a book in the library episode but yeah, I’d half to agree you nonetheless.
*SPOILERS* They wanted to introduce Wan in ATLA but couldn't figure out exactly how, but I bet that's what they meant to do pretty much. I'm sure they would've gotten Wan to tell Aang how he got his bending from the lion turtles and to try and visit one (There's actually a theory that the lion turtle that gave Wan his firebending was the same one Aang met, since they have the same markings)
i always loved that ty lee gets her full circle moment. she never wanted to be part of a matched set but now that she has grown, it doesnt bother her and she embraces being part of the 'matched set' of her choosing
This series pays a lot of attention to detail, for example: from the very first episode Zuko used firebending fueled by anger and always growled with anger, but after the episode with dragons his magic is calm and smooth, it's just a masterpiece! thanks for the reaction
I really wonder about the reaction of those Fire Nation troops on the airship. Keep in mind, Toph invented Metalbending like a few months ago at this point, so they probably have no idea of its existence. Then out of nowhere, this little 4 foot nothing terror bursts into the command deck, magically wraps herself in metal, and goes on to beat their asses. They must have been absolutely terrified.
i could watch this show 1000 times more.. and i would still love it and cry every single time. and your reactions made it feel like the first time watching all over again
14:10 No. He did redirect it. But he took it through heart. That can be fatal.. still, in this unstable position he was able to redirect the lightning. Frikin firebending pro right here. Aah, I always feel like crying when I see "the end" on the screen. So good.
Yesss dude one of the best finales to a show ever and what started as a kid show at that! Like come on! The sound design on the fire bending during this episode especially during Zuko and Azula’s Agni Kai was amazing you can really hear the roar of the flames when Zuko lets it all out and you can really see it in Azula’s eyes just how powerful Zuko is and it’s so good. Oh yeah and I really loved the high pitch sound that comes in when Aang hits his back on the rock wall and the like choir vocals that come in with the past avatars always gives me chills
Thank you for sharing your adventure trough all the three books with us - it's been a pleasure! Also, I really loved that the both of you looked at Aang like proud parents - he was just "The Boy in the Iceberg" but now he truly is "Avatar Aang". Watched it the first time when it aired back in the day, still can't get enough of it, one of the best shows ever and definitely not only for children.
The actress for azula mentioned that to achieve that scream/cry at the end she actually had a channel a very dark time in her life so that was 100 percent real emotion. A phenomenal actress for sure
The most wonderful thing bout this shows finale is that almost everyone fulfilled his arc. The first episode of the show was called the boy in the iceberg. The last one is called Avatar Aang. Think bout that. Aang fulfilled his obvious main arc to save the world from the firelord and not killing him as the monks told him. Zukos Arc finishes as he becomes firelord. Katara ends up with the great and powerful bender Aunt Wu told her back then. Sokka finishes as the leader, who took the battleship fleet down. Tophs Arc remains to trust her friends and dont be so egoistic, which you can see in the chemistry between her, Sokka and Suki. Even Ty Lee fulfills her kind of "side arc" becoming a Kyoshi warrior. She grew up with 6 sisters who looked exact the same. She joined the circus to be outstanding. She loved it to be surrounded by many boys. And in the end she ends up with 6 same looking warriors and understands that is not important to be outstanding. She understands that its just important to be surrounded by real friends not like Azula. About Azula: It was determined, that she will lose it in the end. And I mean not just the end fight. I mean her mental health. The breakdown started when Ty lee and Mai betrayed her. She was always confident about, that she can control everyone by using fear. After her "friends" betrayed her, she had that paranoia that everyone will betray her. Thats why she banished everyone. And the fact that she was beaten up by Katara is for me like Zuko has replaced his bloodline sister with another one. Azulas Arc is very tragic, if you think about, that she is 14 years old and is this kind of girl, just because her father raised her like this. The vision of her mother describes it very well, that she just wanted to be loved by her. All in All I think everyone will agree, that Avatar is the best kids cartoon and a golden piece television history. Thanks to all who read this comment. I just wanted to emphasize my love to the greatest kids show and one of the greatest TV shows ever made.
It’s interesting that the way they set the comet up is that depending on how long an avatar is alive for it could be set up where every time there’s a new avatar there is also a new run for the comet
Unsure if anyone else has mentioned this, but Grey DeLisle who voices Azula, also incidentally voices the nameless servant girl who left the pit in her cherry. A seemingly small detail, but many fans have chosen to interpret the cherry pit interaction as a sort of metaphor for the internal struggle going on in Azula. Feeling the need to be perfect all the time, especially on the day of her (literally) crowning achievement of becoming firelord, but also know that she has hurt and pushed away the people closest to her in a sort of self-sabotaging act. The cherry pit has been taken to be symbolic of the only moment she actually internalizes and admits to herself (even unconsciously) that she has created her own downfall.
Guys, thank you for reacting to this masterpiece. Welcome to the club of people who love this series. It’s been a great adventure watching this with you since the beginning!
The fight scene with Zuko and Azula is sheer perfection. And that score..it is one of those scenes you just need to watch it even once but you'll never forget it, just epic 😮💨 What a goated finale and show.
Masterclass of a finale, there are very few like this. I love every moment, every character, every message. This show was made with so much love and it shows.
That scene with Azula and her mother gets me everytime and her just straight balling after she's been caught 💔 and the agni Kai score 😭 Yeah this shows is up there and Korra maybe not as much but I liked it and would like to see you guys react to it and you'd be the first reaction channel I'd be watching the show with And in terms of my favorite animated/anime, I have the same list as Ange but substitute Demon Slayer for Mob and since I'm not done with season 1 of Haikyuu I'd have to say One Piece or JJK And I agree with Ange book 2 is also my favorite Thanks a lot guys for this reacting to this series 🙏
Aang’s chakras became unblocked by physical release, which is a common understanding and Eastern medicinal approach to releasing a chakra, hence acupuncture using meridians and chi patterns. Some people saw is as a deus ex Machina moment, but it is basically a moment of manual therapy to a physical block to his chakra.
I want yall to fully appreciate what Iroh did, that man took down a part of the wall that has stood against attacks of all kinds for so long with ONE SHOT
Love the way Zuko uses “Kata” (Forms) from all 4 elements during his Agni Kai with Azula. He probably listened to his Uncle’s advice and picked up some stuff during his time with the Gaang. My favorite moment in the series!!!
Let’s try and solve Carle’s doubts on Katara. She’s also very young, she may be mature but still a kid at the time. She was in a war and had lots of responsibilities and unresolved trauma. She came a long way and got some of the trauma healed/lessened. In book 2 and 3 you see her not let herself be happy and focus on the mission and her family(team avatar). When all is said and done the finale she let herself be happy. She definitely liked Aang
What I also love about the fight Zuko vs. Azula is that he was able to equally (or even better) compete against her not only because of how he adapted the movements of other bending styles but also Iroh's teaching. In the fight against Admiral Zhao (Book 1) Iroh said "Break his stance" and that's what Zuko also did here in the fight. Only waited for a moment to break her stance which led her to the cowardy tactic of aiming at Katara. I love how much of a full circle all those plant & seeds have. Still my favourite show. I waited soooo long for this finale reaction and it was worth every day of my journey with you guys.
I'VE SEEN THIS ENTIRE SERIES AT LEAST 6 TIMES AND HERE I AM CRYING AT WORK WATCHING THIS WITH YALL!!!! This was the very first show I showed my wife when we started dating and it became one of our regular rewatches with The Office etc. As of writing this, last weekend we went and saw ATLA: A concert experience where a live orchestra played music from the show for 2 hours including The Last Agni Kai and The Finale music in its entirety. I also cried in that theater for basically 2 straight hours. Fuck I love this show and I love seeing new people coming into the fandom. Y'all are going to be obsessed w/Korra.
Zuko and Azula’s Agni Kai was breathtaking and heartbreaking all in one. The decision to leave the music quiet and have the sound of fire amped up was brilliant. It made the moment even more tragic than it already was. It truly makes the viewer hold their breath as they watch two siblings, both hurt and abandoned by their parents, fight to the death. But only one of those siblings has healed and found peace within themselves. It’s been so many years of rewatching the series, ever since I was a kid, and this Agni Kai still rips my heartstrings every single time. Phenomenal show.
Cool symbolism/parallel: Zuko's lightning scar is in the front, he ran towards his destiny. Aang's is on his back, he ran away from his destiny. Both scars caused by Azula. Love how much Aang and Zuko are two sides of the same coin.
It's been a joy watching you react to this, can't believe the finale is here! I love Azula's breakdown so much, it's so tragic and emotional especially with the music and animation. And while I do agree the random power from the lion turtle is a bit too out of nowhere, I really really love that Aang doesn't have to kill Ozai but instead "disarm" him. I grew up Buddhist, so seeing him both get to embody those ideals (one of the main cultural inspirations for the air nomads) and still manage to stop Ozai is so powerful to this day. Looking forward to your thoughts on Korra when you get to it! It definitely has a lot more flaws than ATLA, but some really great and moving storytelling as well that I think you will love.
I love seeing Ty Lee’s arc :) went from wanting her own self identity and not being part of a matching set to joining the Kiyoshi Warriors (who are quite literally a matching set)
As a person who came to appreciate movie soundtracks a lot, ange gets me. You always mention good music in shows and I love that so much. Seeing the perfect finale is one thing but what makes me tear up is the iconic soundtrack. It’s so fitting, so rightfully placed. No matter how many times I’ve seen the final showdown, both the Agni Kai and aang’s fight get my eyes well up with tears. They’re so overwhelmingly good 😭🥹
"Into the Inferno" is my favorite episode of the entire show. Azula's death-spiral into madness is SO well-done, the Agni Kai was just a thing of beauty, with the somber music, beautiful illustrations, and amazing fight choreography. Just phenomenal. The last line of dialogue spoken in the show...is a blind joke.
I definitely think Korra has elements in which both of you guys would enjoy. The fight choreography alone is crisper, and its newer so the animation is as well. The story is pretty entertaining especially in seasons 1 and 3-4. Familiar faces appear and new bending sub elements. Its still a pretty good watch. It also features some of the best villains in the avatar world.
First word of the show “it’s” last word of the show “perfect” I just have to put this comment in every reaction video of the finale, because it just sums up the show so nicely, because the show really is perfect!😭💖

The soundtrack during the zuko azula fight hits every time🤩
I love that they went that way.
Also, the lion turtle was actually mentioned in The Library in book 2. We didn't get any true info, but it was brought up before!
Also by Piandao when he was telling Sokka how he had a heart as strong as a lion turtle and twice as big.
Yes!!!
I forget when it was, but theres also lion turtle decorations, I remember they were planter or pot like!
They were hinted at numerous times. And even appeared directly in the unaired pilot. They were a key part of the story before audiences ever even saw it on television.
yes!!! I was looking for this comment before I commented myself haha
For me, growing up Aang and Zuko were my Goku and Vegeta. This was my #1 go-to show to watch as a kid and probably still is.
It’s the only comp that makes sense, tbh.
Surely the dynamic is atleast a little bit inspired by Goku and Vegeta
Aang was hit in the spot that was keeping his chakras blocked. Yes, Aang was using the Seismic Sense that he learned from toph. They show him using it in the runaway episode when toph and Katara are training Aang.
30:20 The show hinted Lion turtles in the Great Library and in the Soka's master episode.
Thank you for choosing Aang Ange, i have seen so many reactions many choose zuko and my boy Aang gets pushed down because zuko having an arc, not realizing both went through same situations but Aang was already an Iroh from start of the show and saw positivity with everything and never gave up on any character of the show
@@lidinalby7487 “already an Iroh”, I’ve never seen Aang described this way but I completely agree!!
I totally agree because aang and iroh were always my favorite and they remind me so much of each other

@@IsurOoSOKKA was deleted in Legend of Korra (literally)

I agree. Ozai would’ve rather die than live without his bending AND his throne.
@@tmc31390l agree with you here have nice day❤️
When you realize Aang didn't kill Ozai because it was too merciful. 💀
Was the absolute best form of justice for Ozai. And Aang stayed true to himself and his beliefs.
Props to Mark Hamill for being a great villain VA.

I fell şad for her here l hope Azula wil be ok tho iş amzing battle have nice day❤
That also what I thought, after everyone left she realized she wished her mother there talk to her. I mean her mom never really said she hate her or something, it's just zuko more closer to mom so she think mom doesn't love her. It is really sad.
@@gsintampalamI’ve always believed Ozai played a major role in Azula not believing Ursa loved her. It would be in line of his character if he manipulated his young daughter to believe that so she could be the weapon he wanted to be.
everyone with their head canon lol
I always saw it as it's her finally realizing that her mother actually DID love her (unlike mai and ty lee who only feared her) because she can see the difference now, and it destroys her emotionally because she spent so long believing the lie that her mother hated her.
a fact that i love about the agni kai between zuko & azula:
remember when iroh teached zuko some techniques from the other nations long ago? zuko is using them in the fight. if you listen carefully, you can hear each element he is currently using. for example: 12:57 you can hear air when he’s bending fire, and right after in the uncut version should come earth, 13:16 is also earth and 13:23 is an air technique that you can also hear the air of. it is a detail i love the most out of all, it adds so much to it and also shows how much he extended his bending especially compared to azula here.
Is amzing battle and l fell şad for them here but l agree with you here have nice day❤
@@unclebobboomergamesand that’s why you’re not a writer for ATLA. You missed the core part of what the series is about. Balance. Since the Avatar is the only one that can connect to the spirit world, there would be no balance between the human world and the spirit world.

Thank you, Carlie and Angelo for watching (re-watching) this beautiful and fantastic series with me in the past few months. I waited till you uploaded all the last few episodes, so I kinda am late to the party since I was watching it as you were uploading the videos then 😂
Another rough year for me, but watching this show again with you guys helped a lot.
It's insane how I was waiting for a season and a half Azula's defeat. But when I finally got it, I felt no satisfaction. Just sadness.
Even Irohs earliest lessons on firebending coming from the breath. Zuko is calm , solid breathing, and Azula is panting with exertion
episode 1: the boy in the iceberg
finale : Avatar Aang 😮💨😮💨
i think one thing that sticks out as important to me about the way aang ends up dealing with ozai is how not only were aangs people killed, but so much of his culture now only lives on through him. i have seen a lot of people say over the years that he should have been forced to make that choice, because it would have been a more 'mature' decision from the writers. but honestly i couldn't disagree more. if aang had killed ozai, he would have lost a part of his peoples culture to the same type of villain who perpetrated its near extinction in the first place. which is a large reason why it has always been one of my favorite parts of the show.
@@pabloc8808 i know that from Korra. In this they dont seem to make it very clear or maybe I missed it.
Aang got one on his back for running away from his destiny and Zuko got one on his chest for running after his destiny
@@coltonpiper6156He didn’t After all, the main reason he favored Azula over Zuko was because she was a more powerful firebender.
The music in the Agni Kai between Azula and Zuko is absolutely incredible. Apparently the creators really pushed for an orchestral score for it, and it really pays off.
The lion turtle was introduced in the library episode when Ang showed the crew the picture of it
I’ve seen this so many times and I still cry thinking about the fact that Azula is legit just 14 years old. Insane how a despicable role model can ruin a kids life.
Yes your ritht here my friend l fell şad for her here have nice day❤️
I always appreciated how Zuko and Katara fought in the Season 1 and 2 finales, but in Season 3, they fought together and had each other’s backs.
Me too l love Azula l fell şad for her here l hope she get help tho thanks for his my friend have nice day❤️
Her father molded her into a powerful weapon he could use and in the end, she became a broken weapon 💔
Yep, the whole first episode is actually just a giant foreshadowing.
That’s not what foreshadowing is 😂😂
3:30 Lol I love that Azula has finally won you over man, there’s a reason she’s me 2ᴺᴰ favorite character after Aang.
Me too she my favorite villain l fell şad for her here have nice day❤️
That final scene of Azula & seeing how broken she became has been one of the few scenes that have stayed with me YEARS after I've watched ATLA.
But Korra is a cool Avatar and she's got Aang in her so I rock with her LOL
edit: The fact that Aang's VA was about the same age as Aang also blows my mind. Like he was killing it at 12 years old!! Amazing work.
Also I'm with Ange on the Kataang thing. I always thought even as a kid, Katara was hesitant because of the war 😭 Aang needed to focus on that, not her LOL
My favorite show of all time. The buildup to the finale was peak, and in the end it did not disappoint. The Final Agni Kai was 10/10.
17:15 I think his chakras were physically blocked because of his injuries from azula attacking him and not spiritually blocked. So when his back hits that rock sticking out the tramua like jolts them open is how i look at it.
Sokka in ep2: you can't fight the firenation with fun!
Sokka in ep60: We've got a very special birthday to celebrate!
It doesn't handle those complexities very well though 💀
@natalimoina Unfortunately the colony ones are the best handled of the comics. The shit they pulled with Zuko's mother made me wish she was actually dead. It was so so dumb. You could feel the absence of Aaron Eshaz in the writer's room

That one doesn't feel like ATLA at all. I thought it was a fan made or smt.
Aang's injury by Azula blocked that one specific chakra point on his back. The rock pretty luckily acted like Ty Lee's fists and unblocked that same chakra point.
The only reason I feel Katara didn’t blood bend Azula because there was not a full moon.
The lion-turtle was introduced, it was when they were in that spirit library in season 2.
I wish he energy bending was something he discovered himself on an avatar meditation journey while learning from the past avatars.
@@michaelgarrett139 Yeah but since lion turtles existed before the avatar it makes sense
@@kevinlynch5573 sure there's no real problem with it.
The lion turtle was actually mentioned a couple of times before. For example in the library and in the episode where Sokka got his sword.
That Azula discussion.. Honestly with each rewatch my heart breaks for her man
This series pays a lot of attention to detail, for example: from the very first episode Zuko used firebending fueled by anger and always growled with anger, but after the episode with dragons his magic is calm and smooth, it's just a masterpiece! thanks for the reaction
Now that you makes me think of that, yeah you're right. In their minds, it's a fucking monster who comes to destroy everything^^
19:15 - The first time I watched this, I honestly thought that Katara had just sacrificed herself to kill Azula.
Thank you Carlie and Ange I enjoyed rewatching Avatar with you two and I'm patiently waiting for Korra too ❤
i could watch this show 1000 times more.. and i would still love it and cry every single time. and your reactions made it feel like the first time watching all over again
14:10 No. He did redirect it. But he took it through heart. That can be fatal.. still, in this unstable position he was able to redirect the lightning. Frikin firebending pro right here.
Aah, I always feel like crying when I see "the end" on the screen. So good.
The moments you crave, about Zuko's mother and Azula's healing, are in the comics. I really recommend them.
Theres a comic series that addresses Zuko's mom but if Im not wrong I think the newer movies might address it too
Yesss dude one of the best finales to a show ever and what started as a kid show at that!
Watched it the first time when it aired back in the day, still can't get enough of it, one of the best shows ever and definitely not only for children.
the lion turtules was introduced in library episode
Zuko and Azula have one of my favorite fights of all time! The music and audio overall during their fight gives me chills every time I watch it!
Absolute chills indeed! And the fact they bring back the saaame music for Legend of Korra season 2 finale. Chillsss
Me too the ost and battle iş amzing l love his ending keep going king your the best❤️
The last agni kai with azula and zuko always makes me so emotional! The music, the colors, the cinematography! Perfection!!!
Loved your reactions! Happy that it seems to have made an impression on you even among all the shows you watch!
And that score..it is one of those scenes you just need to watch it even once but you'll never forget it, just epic 😮💨
What a goated finale and show.
Masterclass of a finale, there are very few like this.
I love every moment, every character, every message. This show was made with so much love and it shows.
That scene with Azula and her mother gets me everytime and her just straight balling after she's been caught 💔 and the agni Kai score 😭 Yeah this shows is up there and Korra maybe not as much but I liked it and would like to see you guys react to it and you'd be the first reaction channel I'd be watching the show with
And in terms of my favorite animated/anime, I have the same list as Ange but substitute Demon Slayer for Mob and since I'm not done with season 1 of Haikyuu I'd have to say One Piece or JJK
And I agree with Ange book 2 is also my favorite
Thanks a lot guys for this reacting to this series 🙏
Aang’s chakras became unblocked by physical release, which is a common understanding and Eastern medicinal approach to releasing a chakra, hence acupuncture using meridians and chi patterns. Some people saw is as a deus ex Machina moment, but it is basically a moment of manual therapy to a physical block to his chakra.
I love that lion turtle is like a God figure. He say "in time before avatars, WE bend not elements [..]" amazing show
I want yall to fully appreciate what Iroh did, that man took down a part of the wall that has stood against attacks of all kinds for so long with ONE SHOT
The lion turtle was shown briefly during the library episode when the Owl tried to kill them and Appa was lost
The Lion Turtle was actually mentioned in the library episode, but no details were given beyond that they existed.
Wow, I never thought about how being a Kyoshi Warrior factored into Ty Lee's arc. Great analysis! That's so cool!
It’s no coincidence that my favorite character is Bryan and Mike’s favorite villain: Azula.
Cool symbolism/parallel: Zuko's lightning scar is in the front, he ran towards his destiny. Aang's is on his back, he ran away from his destiny. Both scars caused by Azula. Love how much Aang and Zuko are two sides of the same coin.
A best video to watch before i go to sleep. Thank you for this!!!
Love from the Philippines!!!
The Lion Turtle is shown earlier in through a book, and mentioned buy Sokka's sword teacher. It was super subtle.
Every time TH-cam recommends reactions to this Finale I cant help myself but to click and rewatch
LETS GOOO! This finale from Avatar Aang to Zuko and Azula. Everything about it is so beautifully done
First word of the show “it’s” last word of the show “perfect” I just have to put this comment in every reaction video of the finale, because it just sums up the show so nicely, because the show really is perfect!😭💖
They did have the explanations about chakra and how that works which hinted at the importance of your own inner energy...
Remember back in season 1, when Bumi told Aang, he needed to find an Earthbending teacher that could teach him, 'to listen'.
