To me personally, Science is an effort by a feeble human to understand greatness of God. I believe in this effort. so far this effort has strengthened my faith in God.

Really? Even after nearly all of the Earth's 650 religions sided with science and admitted Evolution is a fact? Do you feel betrayed by them? The Catholic Church finally said Darwin was right in 2008. Are you angry with them for knocking yet another leg from under your table?

There are points in the pro column of The Age of Reason. For starters, I'd believe we found germ theory is more effective at fighting disease than exorcism and witch burnings. It seems the value of empirical thought can't be honestly discounted. From the Christian perspective, Logic was one of God's prime and most ancient laws:"In the beginning was the Word" (translated from the Greek, Logos). God built our faculty of logic into our minds before we could invent writing, which eventually resulted in the sacred scriptures you so revere.

To the young lady who is smitten with the wisdom shared by this man: The feelings of comfort that you feel are fruits of the truth shared in love. This man's ability to speak are given unto him for he has found favor from The Father. Truth is like a wool coat on a cold snowy day. A Lie is like a wool coat worn on a hot summer day.

When John Lennox spoke at UCLA in 2011, during the Q&A someone from the audience made an off handed mention of the lyrics from the Beatles song “I am a walrus” …
Dr Lennox - ever the scientist - had no idea what the song or lyrics were. Pretty great.

I'm no longer a Christian, but I so appreciate Professor Lennox. He's a thinking man's Christian, and is a true apologist who operates on an even playing field using the same cognitive tools of logic that an Atheist would, and with love and respect. I'm so glad he's there. You may wonder why I'm not a Christian. Whatever your faith or ethical philosophy,a commitment to truth must be primary. I've known too many who embrace falsehood for faith. Whatever your belief, teach by example first.

Can we be 100% certain that we were not created yesterday, with all our thoughts, and memories put in our brain? I would say we can not be 100% certain, but pretty close. Reality says that we can trust most of our experiences, but we do look for the best explanations. And I am a Christian, and my experiences tell me that Jesus is the Truth, and the Way to heaven. But, everyone has faith, and worships something, or someone. And it is the Holy Spirit that opens the eyes of our understanding about Truth.

You two are very clear and understand the implications of no protection of minds who seek TRUTH. It IS there. But our cultural problem, is “truth” and “love” are being pitted against each other. However, you don’t have to know ALL TRUTH, to defend it as a 1st point, and love as a 2nd point of need. Truth always defends “God is Love”, but as we can see, “love” can not defend Truth. The idea of “love” has been distorted by people who do not believe Truth.

1 Corinthians 15 is explained logically and thoroughly by Dr. Voddie Baucham, explaining Paul’s evidence in “order”. But Romans 10 explains that one must believe in our OWN HEART, and speak that He IS LORD, with his mouth, will be saved. Don’t get “lost” in the details, but keep the main focus on the “principle” that is in question. Ask questions of those who disagree, so that “they” can see what/why “they”believe what they do believe. Jesus wants us to think. We all must make a choice about what/who is our Authority for God, ethical, moral laws. Romans 12:2.😊❤

Lennox affirms that no certainty is absolute. He immediately contradicts himself and declares that since no one considers that torturing a child is positive, that moral conviction would be absolute. But hundreds of known crimes contradict this assertion.
Common faith (the conviction that something unlikely will happen) is not the same as religious faith (the conviction that something impossible will happen). The latter will never be reasonable by definition.

See scapegoating to me, is basically trying to pass blame ,and not holding your hand up and acknowledging your accountability. Not having faith which is not having belief and trust in acknowledging what is right and wrong. You see Adam tried to pass the blame on the Eve being a coward. But bottom line he himself was accountable for not acknowledging the command that God gave him. So then God had mercy and Grace and gave us an early learning time to where it's appointed for all men to die once and then after this is the judgment. But with our belief and trust in the son of God Jesus Christ who also is God and what he did on the cross forgives us for our not knowing our ignorance. All you ask is for acknowledgment and he will acknowledge you and give you the guidance and the wisdom and the training in the way that you should go and to show.

@@gjeacocke "is alcohol reasonable to live a healthy live every day like praying every day?"
Reasonable simply means subject to reason. A bit of alcohol, as from wine, has been shown to have health benefits. It is the *showing* combined with *thought process* that makes a thing potentially reasonable. But someone else drinks wine because she likes it; that's her "reason" but it isn't objectively reasonable.
Thus, the thing itself is neither reasonable nor not-reasonable; reason happens in a human mind, but I think not very often.
"so to conclude that faith is unreasonable ignores the important issue of accepting what reasoning gives you as its answer."
That seems unnecessarily complicated. *Faith is belief* typically combined with loyalty and/or behavior. HOW you got that belief may be due to reason, but it can also be due to herd influence with no thought process (reasoning) involved.
I doubt a person could arrive at "faith" whatever exactly anyone means by it, solely by the logical processes of reason; unless and except the arguments or claimed facts upon which reason operates have been chosen in advance to lead to a conclusion. For instance, a common argument is the complexity of the universe and how everything is just right. But that proves nothing; it is the anthropic principle -- it *could* be accidental; and humans evolved (presumably) *adapted* to the cosmic constants. So it means nothing. Probability exists only in things that have not happened yet. Things that have happened, however unlikely one may think of it, have probability "1".
But if you THINK it proves something, then that becomes your reasoning; yet, faith is still not reason. Reason is one thing, faith is another thing, sometimes the result of reason.
FAITH is the result of various choices or processes, REASON *is* the process (or one of the processes).

But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’”Jesus is the only begotten Son of God ,Jehovah is his Almighty God and Father. Psalm 110:1 Then Acts 2:34-36 ) For David did not ascend to the heavens, but he himself says, ‘Jehovah said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 35 until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet.”’ 36 Therefore, let all the house of Israel know for a certainty that God made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you executed on a stake.”

Faith is not unreasonable any more than speaking the same language as your peers. We are socialized to conform to what our family and culture accept from religion and language to food and music. Not having faith is certainly reasonable because there is no substantive, verifiable evidence of any supernatural phenomena.

@Tom Servo : I don't disagree. I'm being generous with the word that it's not unreasonable for people to accept what their culture accepts as true. One's reasoning can be valid but if their premises are wrong it isn't sound. I personally am unconvinced of the supernatural but I understand why many accept it based on the enormous amount of cultural history.

Not quite. Declaring a thing as non-existing is inherently illogical. You must first define the thing that does not exist, then confirm that nowhere in the universe that thing you define3de does not exist. Supernatural pertains to a phenomenon that exists but the cause is not usually observed and thus is inferred.
