Commonwealth stadium can hold over 60,000 people. I’ve been there for that.😳
since they put in the new wider seats it doesn't hold over 60k anymore

What about Tim Horton's Field in Hamilton. Several times there were over 25,000.

@@samiavanessakafati2446 - Canadians are cheap. Even Australia with fewer people has bigger stadiums. (In the US, there are nearly 100 stadiums with a higher capacity than Canada's biggest.)

Notice how Olympic Stadium (AKA The Big O) has no pro teams playing out of it? It once hosted the Montreal Expos and the Montreal Allouettes. It killed the Allouettes 1.0 and drove the Expos all the way to Washington, DC, and when the Baltimore Stallions relocated to Montreal and became the Allouettes 2.0, they abandoned The Big O as in spite of having a then perennial Grey Cup Contender year after year, they couldn't get anyone to actually show up on a regular basis and soon moved to McGill Stadium, only using the Big O for occasional playoff games that need the extra capacity. The Big O is really a pox upon Montreal and was a big waste of money. I really hope Montreal can tear it down and replace it with a good stadium in the 50,000+ seating range soon.
It does host the CF Montréal matches in winter for a short period of time.

@@samiavanessakafati2446 Because it doesn't have a retractable/open roof and therefor is unable to sustain natural grass. All prerequisites for WC stadia according to FIFA regulation.

Lol what a joke. That Montreal stadium is falling apart and not even in use. The largest stadium in Canada that gets used all the time is Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton and it has a capacity of 60,000+. Montreal's Olympic stadium should not even be on the list.

Being a Canadian and playing in most of these stadiums and seeing all of them the disappointing thing is how poorly they are built and maintained. Only three are decent (BC Place, McMahon Stadium & Rogers Centre) The rest are dumps especially Commonwealth and IG field.

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted by Canada-USA-Mexico, the Canadian venues used will be 0:51 BMO Field, 3:05 Commonwealth Stadium, and 3:25 The Big O.
The venue 2:43 BC Place voluntarily withdrew because the government short sidedness did not agree with the conditions of the North American World Cup bid, which is a shame because it has the capacity, it's in better condition than the Big O, and the place has hosted Women's World Cup and other Women's international football matches before.
Montreal has since pulled out and it looks like Vancouver might replace them

The Montreal city administration couldn’t give less of a damn about local sports. The last time big sports infrastructure project was the Bell Centre in the 90’s. Damn, even the Montreal Alouettes can’t have a decent stadium, and they have to play in the more than 100 y/o Percival Molson Stadium. There used to be talks for bringing back pro baseball in Montreal, but the MLB is adamant that the city must build a new stadium first.
Meanwhile, Quebec City gets a whole ass coliseum for a hockey team that exists only in their damn dreams.
