Slight correction if i may,..Both cars did race in Monaco in 1995 but both stopped out on the circuit,..Verstappen's gearbox let go before the second restart and Schiattarellas car was badly damaged by Marshalls (they put it on the back of a truck to bring back to the pits but did not strap it down so it fell off and broke the tub),..so he could not take part in the restart,.. Great video !
I will discuss this with the writer of the book I used to write this script. 😊 Thank you for pointing this out and I'm glad you still enjoyed the rest of the video.
This is a great video Wimbo, may even be the best one yet! Really love the documentary style story telling. Looking forward to more content just like this!!!
I was sitting at Tosa on Friday morning with a group of friends from the UK. Both Simteks had spun to the outside of the track and rejoined hitting their wings on the high inside curb. Fortunately we moved on to Variante Alta for the afternoon. On Sunday I was at Rivazza with some Italian friends. On the flight back to the UK I sat next to one of the Simtek team and we chatted about old F1 races. Before we disembarked I told him I hope he had not been bothered by the chat but he was OK with it. I did bump into him on the Thursday at Spa and he invited me into the pits for a look around their garage.k
The tragedy of Simtek reminds me of the tragedy of Virgin/Marussia/Manor. Two small but affable teams cursed by money problems and horrible luck. I wasn’t around in the 90s, but I think I would’ve also been rooting for Simtek the same way I remember rooting for Manor.
For me personnally, the SIMTEK F1 Team was without any doubt, one of the most symphatic and genuinely concerned F1-Teams of all times. Looking back, It is so sad and tragic, that the young team_boss Nick Wirth - a very sympathic and ambitious man - lost his friend, and driver Ratzenberger, on that cursed racing-weekend in IMOLA. Maybe, it sounds erie, but from a spiritual point of view, it was clearly visible, that with Roland's fatal accident, the simtek team as a whole left its "promissing path" - in other words: The team's positive progress stopped and this "bad karma" finally led to the teams bankruptcy. Finally, the "simtek-adventure" is one chapter on a long list of "might-have-beens" and "what-if's"... Beside that, the 1994 simtek-Ford with its purple_coloured design was one of the most beautiful F1 cars, ever built.
@@wimboformulaBTW...I was racing driver myself, for at least 5 years, between 1995 and 2000 (Single_Seater and BMW_Touring-Cars, as a private driver). Unfortunately, I was stopped, before I really started, after an accident with leg injuries.... In 1995, I started single-seater racing (Formula Ford 1600), after visiting the same racing_academy as Roland did - the famous Walter Lechner Racing School on the old "Österreich-Ring" (Zeltweg, Austria).
Here's a video from my friend Jason about the same subject.

Bittersweet. A taste of greatness, an ocean of sorrow. Thanks for filling in so many blanks for me.
Very poetic Martin, thank you!

MTV is so ingrained in my childhood along before I grew my hair long and started watching Skuzz....great video Wim!
Thanks Jason!!! I spent many hours watching Davina and that guy with the chin. Was it Ray Cooks? 😁
Great production Wim! Never knew about the history of Simtek. They had an eventfull few years on the paddock.

I got a little Aiden Millward vibes on this video, and that's a compliment.

Wow, that's amazing! You experienced a bit of history!
Very interesting backstory. I remember when all that happened but was too young to appreciate what was happening.
Excellent! Ever more curious!
You're welcome! 😁

Manor is also an interesting piece of f1 history. But more recent. Very true.
Well, Wirth also designed the first 2 Virgin F1 cars. The first using no wind tunnel, just CFD
@@simonwood6884 that's amazing. I should research him further.
@@wimboformula he was also chief designer at Benetton in the late 90s
@@simonwood6884 Wow I wasn’t aware of that
