A funny joke about musical notation. 1971 Copyright / John Stump (1944-2006) Música contemporânea - Notação musical criativa Contemporary Music - Creative musical notation
For those who have no clue what's going on here: this "piece" was composed - actually, a better word would be "created" - as a joke. It was never meant to actually be played, it is simple making fun of music theory (thus explaining the absurd time and key signatures and markings that say nonsense such as "Song of the Yum Yum"). Just look at the full score of this piece, it's supposed to look chaotic. Another work created by Stump would be Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz; if you dont know what that is, I definitely recommend that you look it up :)
It's not really about music theory, it's about ridiculously silly music notation. If you look really closely, every tiny detail in the notation is a joke! I'm amazed somebody went through it and actually input it to get an audio export :)
I actually love how this piece makes fun of music theory and how ridiculously complicated it can get. There are people who forget about making a piece musical, and instead focus on making it as challenging as possible.
This music combines features distinguished by the richness of the inner content. For many melodies, it may seem that this music is made of randomly selected notes, but in fact, this composition is characterized by exquisite chromaticisms, detentions with a clear major or minor fret base and simplicity of harmonic functions. it also differs from other works by its intonational expressiveness, plastic flexibility, cantilence, richness, inventiveness of melody, interpenetration of instrumental and vocal principles. brilliant virtuosity is combined in his works with spirituality, poetry, grace.
I will lie if I say that this "music" gives me some aesthetic delight. Apparently, the author has managed to achieve an unsolved music crossword puzzle. Rousseau said: Back to nature! And I would say: Back to music - the real music.

It goes to show you that the most intricate notation with mathematical precision of nightmare proportions sounds almost the same as chaos like my cat running across the keyboard
Am i the only one thingking the music sheet is very messy and lools like insanity, and kinda perfect for SCP monunt golghota's playable version of the sheet, since the point of the SCP's original mount golghota's sheet looks is to makes it messy and as if the writter it self is insane(depicting insanity in the sheet).
John Stump: How... Did my work please you? Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: I never knew that music like that was possible! John Stump: You flatter me Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: No, no! One hears such sounds, and what can one say but... "John Stump."
If you can play it slowly, you can play it quickly #15notesasecond

So this was their idea of a meme huh
HAHAHA @@doodoomobah
I see..
But death waltz is pretty good minus the fact that it’s black sheet music
Mozarts A musical joke is funny AND sounds good. Why could people do that over 200 years ago and now they omit the "sounds good" part
Perfect example of a hard piece not sounding good😂
I think it sounds a bit better than a random smash but not very good
it's not supposed to
I actually enjoy it, is that bad?
Sailesh Sharma goodness
Yes
Isn't this just some hyperactive kid mashing piano keys?
It's a masterpiece you uncultured swine.... It was constructed with utmost care
Yes
Well then the kid must have like hella fast fingers
It is
Like an hyperactive child playing with paint and then they call it Art. It is exactly the same.
797/64 time signature wtf??? is this what Ling Ling played the first time he met Terence Fletcher?
this was Ling Lings first piece to practice.
Wonderland Artwork he played it when he was 21 months old lmaoo
this whole thing was Ling Ling’s warm up
*10 flat keys signature, 37/64 time, "very slow" tempo:* consists of nothing more than a rest and a fermata
lmao
sopranos only (changes into bass clef)
wtf is going on in here?
the sound is not even good
kmieciu a kid smashing a keyboard.
David Dong I think even 12 tone is better than this
Brekfast
Exactly.
After two weeks of Simply Piano, I can play this with ease!
😂😂😂
Fiquei com medo Dessa alma kkkk
Que alma mais confusa kkkk
It sounds like what you hear in a instrument shop where kids randomly play notes on every single display piano
It's not really about music theory, it's about ridiculously silly music notation. If you look really closely, every tiny detail in the notation is a joke! I'm amazed somebody went through it and actually input it to get an audio export :)
Anyone here from twoset?
bailey hall YAS !!!
Me

Me
yep
My band teacher gave this to our class for April fools

1:55 is the best part. The note value mixed with speed is so fast even a machine can’t reproduce it.
that's just dynamics
the contrast between fff and ppp
It seems like a infant playing a piano
1:25 is the proof
Well... Twosetters are coming here soon
I like how he put "like a march" on top of a sole semibreve.
0:31-0:33 the best part
Sounds like my cat when he walks on my keyboard
1:29
I thought it would continue with "We are number one"
That would have demystified my theory that "The perfect piece doesn't exist"
Now I got this song stuck in my head.
Hate when that happens
If you can't play it, you can play it quickly #15notesasecond

I love that we've reached a point where computers can read and play these deliberately-unplayable songs.
Those silent pauses with a key signature lol
Ling Ling gotta be practicing 72 hours a day to be able to nail this
I bet 40 hours of practice went into making this.

just because it's hard, doesn't mean it sounds good.
was this randomly generated by a computer?
No. this sound was invented for a weird person. Only the song is playing for a computer software
This is not a song, it’s a piece. And it was meant as a joke.
It was written in the early 1970s.
I will lie if I say that this "music" gives me some aesthetic delight. Apparently, the author has managed to achieve an unsolved music crossword puzzle. Rousseau said: Back to nature! And I would say: Back to music - the real music.
oof - the musical
This is like what happens when I mess about in sibelius if I'm bored.
Someone seems to consider it music
A piece is difficult doesn't mean it is GOOD

Contemporary composers: *717/64*
Am a prog metal fan, can confirm. I bet Tool have done it already
A revolutionary masterpiece
This reminds me of my college Composition Class, which made just about as much sense.
“Song of Yum-yum”??
Also ayyyy who’s from Twoset
This is when your cat takes over your music notation software
It goes to show you that the most intricate notation with mathematical precision of nightmare proportions sounds almost the same as chaos like my cat running across the keyboard
Well... That fit the theory of chaos. If nature is chaotic by itself then the math that represents nature will result in chaos too.
Love it when it is played on a free music notation software
1:39 windows.exe Is crashed.
What tf are those key signatures? Double flat? SERIOUSLY?!
I was disappointed my tablature program couldn't recreate 37/64 and then I saw the 797/64 measure and shat myself
You know, I thought something wasn't right when I saw the "in C and C# minor"...
I figured this was a troll piece. Was not wrong.
INTERESTING !
It sounds like their moving furniture
kkkk
Me playing the piano while visiting my friend's house
Its so amazing so emotional
*LIKE A MARCH*
*Plays one whole note*
Sounds like Tom and Jerry jumping around on the keyboard
Who else came here from 10 levels of piano difficulty and decided to search this up?
Most inspiring and beautiful song ever made
This hurt my brain in ways I couldn't have imagined
When you play the piano and accidentally record the song
Nobody:
Not a soul:
Stravinsky:
Anxiety: The Musical
the fact that he did all of these by hand
2:05 sounded like a fart lmfao
This just yelled at me
'go and practise'
sounds like a bunch of cats fighting on the piano

Hey!! That measure was supposed to repeat 437 times! I feel cheated.
Piano teacher: this hard song is so beautiful
The song:
This is basically the original “but it’s terrible and made me fail music theory”
Its sounds like he just put his hand in random spots on the piano
Just because the piece is hard, it doesn't mean it will sound good. #twosetviolin
I rlly wish youtube allows pictured comments

"Heavy metal is just noise."
Me, an intelectual.
Not bad for MIDI, at least we can hear roughly what it'd sound like :) Ta
My band teacher gave us this for April fools day
I love the "on the fingerboard"...
I think the funniest part of the whole video are the time signatures
John Stump: How... Did my work please you?
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: I never knew that music like that was possible!
John Stump: You flatter me
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: No, no! One hears such sounds, and what can one say but... "John Stump."
As a joke it's fine.
Finally someone who got the idea... 😁
i can play this by smashing my head on the piano
😂😂😂
nice contemperary music cage
This is the weirdest C sharp tutorial I've ever seen
See tumbnail
Me: this is how I see insanity if it were to be potrayed on a music sheet.
