    I have watched a lot of these twin screw installation videos and this is by far the best. Congratulations!

      Amen, amen and AMEN! With one small caveat: I believe the chain is still a bit too loose. Thus, I would install a small lever, and spring loaded sprocket; to remove all looseness from the chain. This would make the twin screws feel awesome I believe. And the spring would keep the chain tightened at all temperatures.
      I would make the spring adjustable. So you could get just the right tightness. For what it's worth.

    In a day or two I will be installing a Veritas twin-screw vise on my new bench. Watching your video is very helpful. I've read the instructions very carefully, but it really helps to see someone actually doing it. Thanks.

      Ah that´s great! I must say I found the instructions rather funny and complicated...

    Very nice , however , the main reason for a non racking veritas double screw vice IS for the non racking feature , as you mentioned . THAT is why it almost always is used as a front vice . As a front vise it's right (or left) edge can be used , in conjunction with a 'dead man' dog board to secure larger pieces up against the long side of the work bench for edge planing etc (even a few dog holes in a bench leg or simply a clamp can do ) . (on the end as a tail vice you have greatly limited the value (not expense) of this vice in that as an end vice and the advantage of space between the screws is still there , but racking is not an issue used this way )

    I guess you never heard about t-nuts. No inserts needed.
    LOL, "my OCD was happy". I was thinking almost the same thing.
    Instead of the plastic pins, you should use bicycle idler wheels from a derailleur. If the chain pitch is different, there are idlers that are smooth that have no pitch.

    Question: Do you have links for the manufacturer or vendor of the tools you are using in your videos? I expecially like your corded drill guide.

    • @pilotsworkshop4554
      @pilotsworkshop4554  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi my friend!
      I think I will give a full list some time in the future. Until then, this is the link for the drill guide (german amazon):
      www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0043VUCGO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      I´m sure you can find something similar in the States. The one I have is rather cheap and I had to flatten the bottom before I could use it and the rails have some play, but it works okay.

    Well, after a year what do you think about the vices operation?

    • @pilotsworkshop4554
      @pilotsworkshop4554  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It´s quite allright, the only thing missing really is a quick release so I don´t have to screw it all the way back and forth, but only the last few millimeters. This way it just takes some time if I want to clamp something thick...

    What is that attachment for your angle grinder that your using to carve the edges?

    • @pilotsworkshop4554
      @pilotsworkshop4554  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It´s a see-through grinding disc (40 grid), I am trying to find it on U.S. Amazon to send you a link but didn´t have any luck yet.

    hmm?! ich habe da so meine Bedenken mit deinen "Kettenspannern" tun die sich beim Klemmen eines Werkstücks nicht verbiegen?

    • @pilotsworkshop4554
      @pilotsworkshop4554  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ich hoffe nicht, ich werde das beobachten und falls es nicht halten sollte kommt etwas massiveres rein. Das würde ich dann auch in einem Video festhalten. Bisher hält aber alles.

    • @Andy-te6jj
      @Andy-te6jj 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok hört sich gut an, falls sie sich doch Verbiegen sollten würde ich zwischen der Kette eine Art Kettenspanner aus Hartholz anbringen (zwei Keile die aufeinander liegen damit du die "Kettenspannung" Einstellen kannst) worauf die Kette oben und unten läuft

    • @pilotsworkshop4554
      @pilotsworkshop4554  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man muss nur aufpassen, dass Kette + Spanner in die Abdeckung reinpassen
