I still think Byak should be #3. The more I grind, the more value I see in ranged units that can auto content like Extreme Co-op, IZ, and IT. Any unit that can save time irl and power up your account like the potion drop characters go up in value in my opinion. Byak can auto everything he can enter like you mentioned. His SA2 is still the best SA in the game. Aizen's SA2 is a crawling vortex that is extremely slow compared to his blades.
In terms of coop I put Papi Ichigo in 2nd place instead of artbook Ichigo due to how busted the boost is, the overall stat increase is so damn helpful, making not only you but your team mates dish out more damage. It comes in clutch.
Maybe after the poll selection they gonna release a charecter that is better then anniversary just like they did last year Also maybe the next Burn the witch is going to match Aizen
In my opinion even if jushiro is better than masaki I still prefer using her since she has hit hidden enemies 100% which is very neat and makes clearing stages faster

As a noob to this game, where can I see what my skills actually DO? do skills (not ultimate attacks) even have special effects? or are they just plain, "what you see is what you get"?

You shouldn’t be surprise. Ichigo has weakening while byakuya doesn,t And byakuya’s first strong is actually really bad since it misses every mob right in front of you. It hits only at some distance in front of him. Ichigo has just way more consistency than byakuya, but that doesn’t means byakuya is bad. His s2 is just too good and his bombardment is godly. But overall ichigo just has the edge

to be fair ranged characters are garbage in with auto because they never take a step back to zone.
Accidentally got Hollow Ichigo with my free ticket summon when starting and maxed him out. Glad to know he's one of the best.

Can't agree on this list. Noell and 5th Anni Byak are both better / more usefull than Daddyichigo
Daddy Ichigo has better utility than Noel but Noel clears faster and hits harder just in base. For me he's just a bit better than Noel
