    7:05 it's the best quad in the world because you built it. You made it fly. It's only in the air because you did everything right. Be proud of that.

      Thanks man! I’m still surprised after a couple of months nothing has exploded or disintegrated and it’s still flying strong! Definitely a proud moment!

    Hearing those tones on first power-up on your first build is one of those things in life that make it worthwhile. Nice job.

    • @GarethDix

      Or not in my case when I first plugged it in 😂 but yes as soon as those beautiful tones filled their air instead of magic smoke… it was the best feeling!

      @@MysteryD yeah I'm up to 24 now. All for myself though. I've pretty much got every drone I could want or need for any situation at this point so I've kind of slowed down on the building. All of them still fly! I wish I could find a way to build drones for other people and it actually be profitable, because I do enjoy building I just don't really need any more drones for myself.

    I also bought a bnf a speedybee V5 but I needed something to do when I couldn't go flying so I decided to build another 5 inch this time a volador.

    I'm not going to concern myself with sub 250 on my built quads. Until there's a remote ID module that's costs 20 dollars or less. The FAA said as long as you aren't doing anything stupid you'll probably never have a problem.

      Yeah I practiced loads before doing it for real. On this stack the soldering was fairly easy. Some of the AIO’s I’ve used in builds since then have been so much more difficult. But really get a solder sucker and some solder wick as well and if it goes wrong you can always remove the solder and try again

    AOS 3.5 EVO is a pretty cool frame in this category. I think iFlight makes a BNF, although I built my own: AOS 3.5 EVO, Flywoo Goku GN745 AIO, Happymodel EP1, T-Motor P1604 2850KV, DJI O3, Tattu 6S 550mAh, Avan Scimitar 3528-3.
    She floats like a dragonfly and blips like a hornet!

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the AOS 3.5 EVO BNF is going to come up a lot in the comments and if there's enough people asking for a comparison with it I'll try and get hold of one (I think they're all on pre-order here). But that might have to be a future frame build too.
      Ironically your build is identical to how I'm building the Grinderino at the moment except with a crossfire receiver (and obviously the frame). Does that 550 6s lipo still keep it under 250g?

    I've bought two 5" BNFs, and countless BNF tinywhoops. But I've built 50+ fpv drones (5" or greater). As much as I like flying, I think I may like building them more. Then again, I did build a metric ton of models when I was a kid, so...

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  ปีที่แล้ว

    I've bought BNF and built DIY, I tend to agree that building brings it's own pleasure that a BNF can't (it's also way easier than first anticipated), having said that I bought a BNF recently to replace a lost (BNF) quad just because time was an issue - My best tips for building... 1. Get a nice big clear workbench/desk/table to work on. 2. Do a dummy fit to work out where everything needs to go. 3. Buy a smoke stopper

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the fact that when I look at a BNF now I think... what could I change to make it work for how I fly... where as before I spent more time trying to figure out if I like it or not. Those 3 points are definitely great tips... especially number 2... nothing worse than putting it all together and realising it doesn't fit in the frame!

    Although not as aggressive as your build. The Emax Babyhawk II (or 03 now) it is recognized for being incredibly smooth and well tuned. I have to admit that of all my 10 quads I still get surprised over how smooth and good it flies. And 3.5" is really good for sub 250.
    Look at some reviews on it from a few years back, or the recent of the 03 version.

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was mentioned so much in the comments of my last video and I think if I can get hold of one here I might have to add it to the list.
      The only things stopping me from getting one before was no O3 (which they now have) and the arms aren’t replaceable. But from the reviews it looks like it can take a beating.
      It would be interesting to see how it compares to the quadmula given it’s 3.5inch as well 🤔

      @@GarethDix - I'm generally not a fan of the AIO boards but the I'd second the BBHK II being an amazing quad for feel compared to a 5 inch. That was my default next in between quad but at this point in the game I am insisting on a camera forward build to get the props out of frame. (don't know if the BBHK meets that with O3).

In order: Mini3pro...Avata...Betafpv Cetus...Nazgul Evoque 5d...siren f3s...volador 5x... and ordered a pavo pico o3 sub 100g just yesterday. So far I enjoy the volador over the siren because of my anxiety to lose the light weight siren some where up in trees during a dive between those. Those 800g will definitely come down. But yes. There is more than 5 inch and it looks like you just took off... into that money sink. 😂 enjoy it. That said a lot of the parts that I couldn’t get when I started this build are now back in stock and I’ve found other places in europe that sell the batteries and motors which will cut down on the costs a little

    Building a drone is easier than building a lego set. All it takes is a few hours and bam!

    It really annoys me that they don't sweep the arms back enough to get the props out of view. This is definitely my next size build. ( I have a Mark 5 w/O3 and a Mobula 8 w/O3) so I really need a sub 250 in between.
    How much flight time did you get out of a battery on this build?

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think most freestyle quads won’t have the props out of view because they’re an x-frame so it would affect the flight characteristics… that said some of the newer frames like the Djinn25 have pushed the body further forward for the camera… rumour has it that quadmula are working on a 3.5inch version of this to be released soon as well.
      But there are a few people running this 3D printed mount on the siren F3 to get the props out of view too… www.printables.com/model/381833-o3-max-fov-pod-mount-no-props-max-protection-any-q
      On the 380mah battery I get around 3-4mins of aggressive flying some people manage around 5 with more cruising.
      I’m considering making the second one of these I’m building a 4s, but I’m also testing out a few of the BNF suggestions from the comments for a future video that I’m filming at the moment

  • @TheGraneable

    I tried to fix my cinelog20, after a motor burnout.
    I've fried the fc aio somehow, 2 times... Buying a set of 4 motors and 2 boards killed my "fun" in building so i've just bought a second Cine20
    I've got a MOZ7 in my line of sight to be able to film different things, and i'm still on the fence between builing a 7" LR or just buying one...Trying to fix the cine20 kinda killed the willingness to build

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s pretty crazy the cinelog20 was my first quad and almost two years later all I’ve done is replaced props and one of the ducts so you must have really been pushing it!
      On my Flywoo firefly I’ve had to replace two motors and that was fiddly… but if you’re going with a 7inch it is a lot easier to build because of the size and space you’ll have… that said in order to do a build you have to really want it… it’s not typically cheaper but it is rewarding!
      If the moz7 gives you everything you want for now I would just get it BNF and save yourself the pain… you can always start building something in the background whilst you’re flying another quad because the first build never goes to plan and will always take longer than you think

    • @TheGraneable
      @TheGraneable 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have no idea of the work I get out of the cine20, its perfect for one shot real estate, with ajusted tune you can fly around real smooth and slow indoors, and with some more tune tweaking it has enough pushing to combat the wind in higher altitude to get nice house shots or small to medium construction sites, its been a real gold mine.
      While i will say it did crash hard a few times, its so durable, portable and quiet.
      Same for 'fly and run' kinda shots its been perfect.
      And for the price with the O3 i'm loving it.
      But with people wanting full land shots or car rollings, I need to ajust to the demand, from the reviews the MOZ7 seems like a good rounder, but then againt maybe the Tern-LR40, I could still use my current 4S batts and save a bit on initial running costs.
      Picking a BNF is just as bad a buying a new car for me, I look at the specs, compare everything and cant ever decide lol@@GarethDix

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @TheGraneable yeah I love the cinerace… I was going to upgrade mine to a an O3 but it’s more than just an easy swap over but it’s one quad I will never get rid of. I just picked up a smaller O3 whoop to test as well and it’s doing pretty well.
      The moz7 is huge though but worth it or even a 5inch dead cat frame would probably be good.
      The tern looks like it has some agility issues because of the GPS tower thing and won’t be as fast as a 5inch or moz7

      But for a soldering Iron I use a TS-80 which is expensive but allows me to power it when I’m outdoors in case I need to make repairs.
      However all you really need is a soldering iron that you can change the tips on (if it’s 5inch it’s much easier as the components are larger so you can get away with a larger tip) and you can vary the temperature on. I think galaxus.ch do quite a few but if you have an Obi near you they’ll definitely have one that meet those two criteria.

      @ABYSSSP7FN sure… the first part is do you really need DJI O3? If not it’ll save you a lot of money and weight and will give you a lot more frame options.
      I would use an AIO over a stack it’ll save you money and weight. You could use the extra weight budget on cheaper motors.
      I’d run 1404 motors on 4s, they’re more readily available and you can save around 50% of cost - but it’ll come at the expense of power
      Running 4s means the batteries should be cheaper too.
      Finally the Quadmula frame could be changed for something cheaper. It’ll typically be either at the expense of weight or durability or build difficulty.

      I had to change the pwm frequency to 48khz on the ESC as the default was set to 24Khz which is the same as the O3 unit so it was affecting it.
      Did you order the O3 version of the frame? If so it comes with the extra 3D printed mounts made from TPU along with the antenna mount and some longer screws to mount the O3 air unit.

    sub 250 saddly doesnt matter for flying legally since the eu standard specifice that you have to be under 250g, no camera and below 19m/s max speed to be considered C0
    otherwise the quad automatically falls in to the C4 category
    not sure if its just like that in switzerland but we here in germany dont have to worry about weight anymore we are fucked either way ^^

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s weird as Switzerland has adopted EASA regulation but being Switzerland they have also clarified the use of what happens if you can’t meet those requirements.
      For instance the speed is specified as a limit to how you fly not how fast the quad can go and if in flying in an A1 scenario it’s unlikely I’d be able to get to 19/m as the areas are so small. But I can fly A3 if I want to go faster (which makes sense as you aren’t near people)
      With a camera (and not a toy) this is just includes registration, insurance, A1/A3 certification over a C0 which is just to read the manual, but you can still fly sub250g in A1 scenarios.
      I checked the EASA rules and they give the requirements for C0 but don’t tell you what to do if the quad doesn’t meet them which is pretty confusing!

      @@GarethDix that sound reasonable
      to be fair i dont know how they would check the max speed of a home build drone anyway
      all the regualtions make it confusing and hard to find good spots you can fly legally
      for example where i live some dji camera drone guy decided it would be cool to fly over private property
      which resulted in a lengthy article in the local news paper which was full of semi correct info about flying drones
      bad thing was that the article said the you cant fly here cause its within the airport control zone
      which isnt true cause you can fly in the control zone if you stay below 50m
      but now everyone here read the article and everytime i fly some guy comes up and tells me that i arent allowed to do that ...

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  ปีที่แล้ว

      @bluefpv3263 I think the swiss take their time adopting new regulations to try and make them as practical as possible, a lot of the flying here is about common sense so like that case in Germany, when someone is flying stupidly it is really annoying because it ends up screwing the hobby for everyone else.
      There are a ton of no fly zone now in tourist areas because people keep being stupid with drones but I think the main one here (like Germany) is just not messing with people’s privacy.
      But you have to love the media for getting people riled up on fake news. Back in the U.K. they had someone flying a dji drone around a major airport which resulted in days of delays (although no-one ever saw the drone and no-one was ever caught so there still some skepticism as to if this was even real.
      But you also get “auditors” on TH-cam that purposely go to places to annoy police and businesses… technically they aren’t breaking any laws but now regulators are looking at introducing remote ID as a result.

    Build an anolog quad first. Then mistakes aren't super expensive. Melting a DJI digital system is expensive

      I have a view on this because I thought about that too… however the O3 literally required me to plug it into the FC rather than extra soldering so it made the build really simple

    PS sub 250g and durable do not go together. As long as you don't crash it's all good...but as soon as you do that sub 250 is going broke!

      @GarethDix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I say durable I don’t mean Demibot/Tanq I just want it to be able to take a hit or six without dying straight away 😂 I’ve powerlooped this straight into concrete (more than once) and so far I had a few chips and scratches but nothing has broken yet

      the Quadmula has removable arms and the carbon isn´t thin at all
      You get the idea wrong, sub 250 isn´t directly a weaknes, more the benefit of less weight, so in crashes forces aren´t as high also on the frame and not only on the concrete :D

      @@chrisbee5481 I had a feeling the babyhawk was going to come up. I've been trying to find out if the aos evo is actually sub250g though as it only shows dry weight. But I'm interested to see how different 3.5inch is

      @chrisbee5481 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GarethDix The babyhawk 2 O3 is 153g if I remember correct in some review. You need a tattu 750mah 4S to stay sub250g.
      Maybe a light 850mah 4s too, if you find one.
      The aos 3.5 is 178g dry. There you need a lighter 650mah lipo.
      Aos has replaceable arms and a little bigger 1504 motors.
      Ideally you convert both to a naked O3 to use a bigger battery and stay sub250g.
      Personally I've stoped compromising with sub250g builds, but stayed as small and light as possible with bigger motors and battery.
      After a while, you realize it's just a 250g number and no one has ever stoped you in the air to weigh it passing by.
      If someone ever asks, you'll be on the ground anyway and then you just show them a 45g light 3S lipo you fly it with 😄. Never happened anyway.
      If you want an ultimate small build with o3 and props out of view, I can share the specs with you per mai l

      @@Smudge202ut you'll really enjoy it, I was thinking about getting one for flying around in tighter areas. It's probably not going to compare well to a freestyle quad like the quadmula though for that 5inch feel.
      But you should definitely build a 5inch, it's a little bigger so they're easier to work on than smaller quads... and once you're used to the cinelog... the 5inch will blow your mind!
