I live in the desert in Arizona. Many rivers and washes have deep bed of sand and gravel, so water actually flows beneath the surface. That's how quicksand occurs. So, the Colorado River possibly does flow to the delta, but below the visible surface of the bed.

To add to your story, I travel to San Felipe many times a year and drive through this location. The cemented portion is in CA, not far from Yuma. Interesting point, the Feds had to add floating ropes across the cemented areas because it is impossible to exit the canal due to the slope and slimy cement walls. Now you know, the rest of the story, Good Day!

Good vid Sarah. The Colorado River irrigates 500 thousand acres of Imperial Valley Farm Land (Imperial County) that provides 75-80% of our Nations Winter Vegetable Crops and the same for Feed at The Cattle Feed Lots. The "All American Canal" ends at the U.S. / Mexico Border, "Southwestern Desert Edge" and feeds The Imperial Valley through 3 Main Canals running north from "The All American". The East Highline, The Central Main and The West Main" with Lateral Canals Branching off of those to irrigate the fields. Again, all water flow is by Gravity, running south to the north. The All American Canal at the U.S. / Mexico Border, is approx "Sea Level" and North at The Salton Sea, it is approx 230 feet below Seal Level. Truly a marvel of Nature and Human Engineering to Feed America,

During the Colorado River Flood of 1983, the Laguna Salada, a normally dry lakebed between Mexicali and San Felipe, was flooded for a couple of years after they intentionally flooded the entire river downstream of Powell and Hoover Dam. Glen Canyon dam came very close to failing, and they had to use the Hoover Dam spillways (which I got to witness, pretty awesome!) for the second, and only other time in history. I was making regular trips to San Felipe and got to see the lake down there, it was on both sides of the highway and it stretched to the horizon on both sides.

Peter Santenello's channel has a great series on the border situation. In the majority of places, the walls are well on the US side and is not the actual border. All Presidents have installed pieces. The walls have gaps to funnels folks to more safe places to cross but most are customers of Mexican cartels. There are two types of crossers, the give-ups and the criminals. The give-ups actually cross and then wait for border control and some actually call 911 themselves. Once the authorities are busy with the diversion of families being processed, the criminals cross someplace else. Peter's episodes visit different areas and highlight how different the circumstances are. The potapoties were installed to keep people from going in the human consumption food crops and contaminating it.

Without the Colorado River, Phoenix and Tucson could not exist. There is also a LOT of agriculture between Tucson and Phoenix and west of Wickenburg off of route 60. We have one of the few (and largest- the Big Chino) aquifers in Arizona up here in the Prescott area. Great vid as usual!

The water allocations were calculated during an unusually wet period in western American history. The “drought” always peaks the news reports, but in reality it is business as usual.
The Coachella Valley sat on one of the largest natural aquifers in the world from runoff from Mt San Jacinto and Mt San Gorgonio. The local tribes have tried to protect it, but it is being squandered as well. Then someone approved Nestle to build a water-bottling plant to bottle it up and ship it around the world. Now the aquifer has to be replenished with the help of the All American Canal.
Thanks for the tour, Sarah! Would love to show you around The Valley some time❣️

Colin Fletcher spent a lot of time in and around the Colorado River. He (and others) consider the headwaters of the “Green” River as the true beginning of this river. Check out his book “River”. He travels the full length. The course *does* re-emerge further south. The official designation of the souce being in the state of Colorado was a political move.

The Salton Sea is extremely high in "salt", ie. Minerals such as Calcium, Magnesium and Sodium, primarily due to Evaporation! The fresh water that fed it contains a . moderate level of minerals. Over decades, the water in the Sea evaporates. When water evaporates, only pure water is removed, causing the existing minerals to become more concentrated. I have a degree in Chemical Engineering, I am a Industrial Water Treatment Expert, and own an Industrial Water Treatment Company.

Well I finally got through it and reading the comments, being from California I already knew all this. Great boarder wall and I wish there was more, now that we are no longer in a drought there is more water than we can handle unfortunately. We have flooding in the valley and it even shut down Hwy 99 last week, I could not get to my appointment at the VA. All I can say about all this water is that it all was Dinosaur Piss at one time.😵‍💫🤣🤣🤣🤣 Another great vid Sarah, hopefully we can get someone who can get California back on track, we need a governor who knows how to get the job done, too much crime an entitlement here. 👍❤️🇺🇸

Have you read Colin Fletcher's book about his trip down the colorado? It's a good read: "One Man's Journey Down the Colorado, Source to Sea" He got a boat about as close as possible to the terminus in Mexico. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks!

I live in Michigan on the west side of the state - My home is a lakefront home. I LOVE LAKE MICHIGAN. Every Great Lake has a Canadian border. Therefore, the Lakes are highly important border territories between the USA and Canada. Every US state that touches the Great Lakes are members of the Great Lakes Compact that regulate and protects water rights and usage. It also guarantees that no one will be tapping into them for water... Like the water-starved west. Since the Mississippi River flows from Lake Superior - no siphoning pipes or diversions are allowed to suck water for the west. Hopefully, the Great Lakes will be around as a natural wonders freshwater source for the next one hundred thousand years!

Also the lower river used to be very wide. I’ve read that in the spring it could be a couple of miles of fast water. Too much for a ferry to manage.

She says the border wall doesn't work? How could it work when the guy she voted for didn't finish the job, that the guy I for voted for (who actually won) started?

I remember certain wealthy and influential people saying "walls don't work", and then they proceeded to build huge walls around their mansions. Weird that they did that if they don't work. I guess maybe they liked the look of them better out of their windows.

Sarah, you are a hoot!! I’m one of the few that is allergic to Strawberries 🍓. Go figure, my family is British, my mom was born in London. Having strawberries and tea is a common thing in my family..so I make sure I have my bowl of raspberries!!

Fascinating video Sarah. Sorry I missed you. There is one more dam below the Imperial Dam named the Laguna Dam built around 1905. I has been abandoned and there is now a wetland behind it and a body of water called Mittry Lake. I fly RC float planes on it every Tuesday in the winter. I have a couple pictures from the air I will email you since TH-cam doesn't allow it here. The cementing in of the All American Canal was a 30 mile section through the Imperial Sand Dunes along Interstate 8 in California. Part of that project was to divert Mexico's 10 percent to them through a canal near Algadones Mexico. The canal is the Canal Alimentador Central which feeds the farm lands in Mexico in that region. So, the mighty Colorado ends about where you noted in the video. Thanks, you filled in some missing pieces of the information I had already learned.

There used to be crocodiles in the marsh where the Colorado drained into the Sea of Cortez. I guess they were hunted to extinction... but you never can be certain.
