The Man With the Golden Gun is probably the most underrated. Superbly entertaining, a slammin' good villain, a unique henchman, incredible locations, and even MI6 showing up in a sinking abandoned ship. Unappreciated by me would be Casino Royale. Never connected with it. Backwards structure, and all the good stuff is at the casino. After that there's no tension left.
I am really digging the positive energy here! When it comes to Diamonds Are Forever and Spectre, I have to be in the right mood to enjoy them. I am one of the License To Kill appreciators for sure.
It only works that way for me when I saw it at the cinema I hadn't seen Casino Royale for ages and couldn't remember how it ended. This was like a film about the ending.
I also liked Rodger Moore for his one liners, they always sounded better when he said them. "Hang on James" , "the thought had occurred to me" - Moonraker
My favorite one liner from Roger Moore was from The Spy Who Loved Me when the biker henchman is covered in feathers and falls off the cliff and he says " All those feathers and he still couldn't couldn't fly."
I do like Quantum too because it's one of the Bond movies that, to me, does not make any real blunders (like the ending of spectre and no time to die). It's just solid!
Out of all of these movies, the one that least deserves to be unappreciated is License to Kill. Even if you don't like the style of it, there's so many amazing elements in LTK that are far superior to the other's mentioned. Above all Timothy Dalton absolutely nails the character, especially the "compliments of Sharkey" moment, which is one of the most badass in the entire franchise. Also Sanchez is an amazing villain, the Bond girls are great, Q gets some of his best scenes, and the action set pieces and stunts are really impressive. It's just a really well put together movie, even if it doesn't necessarily have the fun moments associated with the other films.
The content on this channel is amazing. I look forward to every video. David you are a true ambassador to all things Bond. My underappreciated Bond film is Octopussy - its such a fun watch that I can overlook any flaws and just enjoy.
Diamonds Are Forever: The Bond film with Dean Martin's uncle (Leonard Barr, who played Shady Tree). I saw the movie on its first release. You had to be there. Sean Connery's return as Bond really excited the public.
You what sucks? Something like that will never happen again. The 50s-90s was such a unique time for movies in that franchise rights weren't as ironclad as they are now and studios have such a rigid set of rules. Like Pierce Brosnan is never gonna play Bond in a movie again. It's sad but it's true. And can you imagine a Never Say Never Again scenario happening in 2023? Absolutely not haha. It sucks but that era of Hollywood is gone.
"A View to a Kill" is, in my opinion, THE most mis-maligned and unappreciated Bond film of all-time. I would never say it's the best Bond movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it is much better than those who rank it at, or near, the bottom.
I never had a problem with Die Another Day! I thought it was really fun - especially with all the gadgets and one liners! Thought it was such a fun Bond movie. I still love the Vanquish - no matter how ridiculous people think the invisibility and bulletproof features are!! After watching this video, I'm willing to give A View to a Kill another chance and see it through a new lens! Till then David! Cheers!
TND is the most formulaic but least pretentious of Brosnan's efforts. Its moves quickly and ticks all the standard boxes well. David Arnold's first Bond score(and the best post-Barry Bond score IMHO) is my favorite element.
I've always liked Licence to Kill. I'd argue that The World Is Not Enough is a bit underappreciated, I recently re-watched it and had a pretty good time with it.
Even with all its flaws, Diamonds Are Forever is my favourite James Bond movie and the one I keep going back to. James Bond’s charisma and his one liners in this movie is at “an all time high.” Cheers!🍸
Great video David I needed a palette cleanser after Craig and No Time to Die I will watch the non Craig movies on your list I haven’t watched those films through in a long time Cheers
Thoroughly enjoyed that David. You're also right about the fun factor. I think I've said it here before-I long for the standalone stories, gadgets, humor and escapism and downright fun. With covid, war etc we need it. fun with a capital F. But how many years will we have to wait :( keep up the good work bud ;)
Your videos and content are wonderful. One film that's under appreciated I gravitate towards is NSNA. In spite of its shortcomings there's much I enjoy in that film. Same with TWINE and QoS. I did enjoy my viewing of SPECTRE when I watched it last week. I had a blast with it and even liked the colors.
QoS was the first 007 movie I saw in the theatre! I´ve already watch all movies before (via TV channel, DVD or VHS) and already was a fun but there it a whole new experience and started my fandom!
My old man only says “there is no such thing as a bad Bond movie, some are better than others, but there all good”. I agree. I once watched them in release order 40 mins at a time while on the treadmill. It was fun to see the changes over the years.
QoS is the second best Craig film (after CR, of course) and I will die on that hill. The editing during the action sequences is jarring but I actually feel it was the most traditional Bond film out of all that Craig did. Dominic Greene wasn't the most charismatic villain but he felt like a good, modern Bond villain who cared more about personal power/gain than destroying the world. Olga Kurylenko was great and her character struck a fine balance between being a strong, capable Bond girl while also maintaining some vulnerability. The biggest mistake they made with the Craig films, in my opinion, was trying to make it one continuous narrative across the films and later trying to tie it all into Spectre and Blofeld when they had already established "Quantum" as a similar idea. After QoS, they should have pursued the "Quantum" group further while dropping the "Bond is an emotional wreck and haunted by his past" since the end of QoS neatly ties up the Vesper plotline and shows how Bond has grown.
Well done David I always turn off my brain when I watch Bond films and just go for the ride all of the films have something to derive some pleasure from. Brain off popcorn in...🍿😂
Always worth revisiting! My underrated pick (now a favourite) is FYEO. Generally, you go in with low expectations, appreciate the really good points and are more forgiving of negatives. That said, making it to the end (first half is pretty good) of DAD deserves a medal! Spectre is my joint favourite Craig (along with CR). Not without narrative issues, but dude, Bellucci! The wrecking ball Bond, love it. LTK is for sure underrated (as opposed to bad!) - people struggle to get over the '80s-ness, but time will forgive. DAF? Beyond Wint and Kidd? Not so much, but an awful book too. And VTAK? My first cinema Bond: Duran Duran, Walken - pure nostalgia. But a weak girl and Walken aside, lacking impact.
This was great to see! I watched all these recently, too, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed them! I really miss the "fun" aspect of the older Bond films. Still, there's not a Bond film I don't like.
I will concur with a previous poster that I love the positive energy of this video. I think a commonality with this group of films that you chose is the performance of the lead actor: Connery is so much more engaged in DAF than YOLT; Roger brought his A-game to AVTAK, etc. The one film that you watched that I no longer categorize as underrated is LTK. To my astonishment, I have rated it above TLD in recent rankings myself, and it’s easily the one Bond film (like OHMSS before it), that has been more greatly appreciated by the newer generations of Bond fans when earlier fans had dismissed it. To answer your question, not long ago I would have said Thunderball or FYEO was the underrated Bond (but there is a lot of love for these lately), so it now seems that Octopussy, just in time for its 40th anniversary, is the “new” underrated Bond. I love the Cold War era seriousness of it mixed in with the “popcorn” fun of it all. I’m a big Brosnan guy, but if I had an underrated movie to rewatch, it just might be TWINE, which I struggle with at times.
For me, I really, really love NTTD. I get that there are some plot holes, and problems with the villain. However, I love the look, the sound, and the action. I gel with the emotional moments too, as I think that they are built up over the Craig era. It's near the top for me. I think I'll be giving more looks into Diamonds Are Forever. You and Calvin did a debate on it, and he mentioned that if you look at it through the lens of a Bond-comedy, it gets better. I think I'll have to give that a try on my next viewing.
A View To a Kill has a lot of good things going on: from the soundtrack to Chris Walken, Grace Jones and Roger (who looked ancient indeed) still saves himself with humor. I mean, which Bond fan doesn't remember the ridiculous scene when Bond ruins the wedding cake of the young couple on the boat and says "congratulations" without ceasing the chase after Mayday😂😂 bruh
The foundation movies by which all other subsequent productions are judged: Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and finally the legendary "Goldfinger". Yes, old film technology, but they hold together. There is no other Bond, the standard and the the original will always be Connery. No one played the role better. Natural cool.in the way he carried himself, spoke and the way he moved in those suits. iconic films.
@@ringbearer1420 Fleming is the Gold Standard! I will take the books over the movies all the way. The character in film barely resembles Fleming's Bond!
@@jeffreardon3969 some of the films have nailed the character though. OHMSS is probably the greatest adaptation (with FYEO being close). Many of the other capture the tone and spirit successfully.
After listening to you defend it for so long, I gave Quantum a good open-minded rewatch and enjoyed it the most I ever have! Forsters style might be controversial but I actually really appreciated his artistic flair throughout and I even liked the title track this time. Only problem for me is how quick the climax wraps up but other than that it feels down to earth, fleming, and Daniel is just badass
I love your content David and this was an interesting video. From the ones you watched here, I’d say that you’re pretty spot on about them being under appreciated. I must say though that for some reason I do quite like AVTAK, but Moore as a whole isn’t a good Bond for me. However, FYEO is my favourite of his and in my top 10 of all Bond movies, and is perhaps a little under appreciated.
Absolutely agree. Quantum of solace is quintessential bond. Locations, yachts, cars, guns…although the antagonist was a bit underwhelming as they go, it was a brilliant film. The car chase at the start in my opinion goes down as one of the best in its history.
the problem with quantum is that it came right after the classic casino royale. so everyone expected a movie at the same height. I make the same analogy with Dalton. he was unlucky to arrive right after the two biggest bonds, connery and moore.
I still think that The Living Daylights is under appreciated. Now that Licence To Kill has had this huge reappraisal, TLD feels like it's been left at the wayside. I don't think anyone hates it, but it certainly has become much less remembered especially considering it's the last Cold War Bond film. And Timothy Dalton is awesome the entire movie haha. Excellent pick with Diamonds Are Forever! It's definitely one of my favorites as campy and cheesy as it is. I love the Las Vegas setting and it's the one and only time Blofeld was funny. Plus Sean Connery actually seems like he's having a lot of fun haha.
living daylights is the last classic Bond and the last to have a John Barry score. To say it is criminally underrated is an understatement. Dalton fits the role so well it is like he was born to play it.
@@matthewgaudet4064 It having the last John Barry score is also a huge deal, I should've included that. In a way, The Living Daylights is the sneaky end of the classic Bond era. Licence To Kill honestly has more in common with GoldenEye and Casino Royale than it does with The Living Daylights and A View To A Kill.
Diamonds are Forever used to be my favourite Bond film. Partly as it was my first. These days my nostalgia glasses are off and I cannot ignore its problems but I still get entertainment out of it.
David, I am won over by Quantum of Solace. It is the best sequel that I rank above No Time To Die. Beautiful cinematography and Bond and Felix don't die.
Golden Gun doesn’t get a lot of love, but it’s one of my faves, perhaps for reasons of nostalgia. I’ll give TWINE a viewing, which hovers around the bottom of my list…
@@polarbear7693 The only two things I have against TMWTGG are 1) how dated an energy crisis story line seems and 2) how patronizing the line "Good girl!" seems to modern ears.
I genuinely like Quantum of Solace. The photography is fantastic and even the plot makes one aware about political and economic issues that do exist in the real world. Very down to earth movie.
The films from each that I rate the lowest, along with a big positive, is Diamonds Are Forever (fast pace), For Your Eyes Only (great stunts), Die Another Day (so much fun) and Spectre (Craig's most YOLT film.)
Could you let me know what version of "ice chase" from living daylights you played? It didnt sound like the original score from Barry but a cover. Sounded great!
Great video David, thanks... These films should be great upon that first initial viewing though, without years needing to pass. As overall films they are all pretty poor, despite all having some great scenes. I loved Die another Day upon release, but I was 13 at the time... Watching it recently though I did enjoy it, until after the fall of the ice palace.. and Jinx's "Yo momma" line.. Spectre- the step brother stuff is absolute balls. It's also just a pretty dull film BUT does have some great moments. For me, Quantum is Craig's best and is the one I think of when I think of Craig's Bond. Casino is probably his best film but Quantum is one I can watch again and again. The editing doesn't bother me, I think it works well. The soundtrack is great. Craig IS badass. There are so many great moments in the film - brilliant action and the best quieter character moments in the series. Also some great comedy. I love the line where Bond says "I don't think he smoked" and M smashes the ashtray onto the floor. It has a unique and refreshing style, i love how experimental it is. It feels like a European Bond film really, not British-made, like the dull Skyfall and Spectre. I rewatched license to kill recently. It's good but the Bond theme playing during the tanker scene undermines the whole thing
I now appeciate ALL of the Bond movies up to the last 10 mins of NTTD when they blow JB up! LOL! Still think they should of made an alternative ending.
As a kid, watching the VHS collection ~2000s, playing 007 Nightfire with my friend... I looooved Diamonds Are Forever. And to a lesser extent A View to a Kill!
Fun video, always nice when some light is shed on the more underappreciated movies. For me, I guess these would qualify for such a marathon (1 per actor): Thunderball, FYEO, Licence to kill, Die another day, Spectre/QoS. As for the ones I like that I feel are underappreciated in the community: No time to die, Moonraker, Octopussy.
I honestly feel Timothy and Pierce are very under appreciated, everyone knows Goldeneye but not many people really talk about the rest and they are so good
David, thanks for this tour of your views on the entire EON Bond films. Some of the Bond films seem hodgepodge collections as if there was a writers’ collective assembling “expected” scenes. Great cinematography but scenes that make you wonder “Who thought this was useful?” As a writer, I trust my editor when he says “this doesn’t work.” It hurts but I don’t have a huge stake in the game. When you have completed a very expensive scene shot at a beautiful venue with good acting, it is hard to find the truth teller to say it doesn’t work. JR Seeger Old warrior/new novelist
I did the same thing with Diane other day last week and I really enjoyed it. You can see my entire comment on your review of dying other day with Calvin Dyson.
Although I really liked Spectre when I saw it for the first time, I like it even more now that the shock of the Bond/Blofeld Austin Powers derived relationship has worn off.
I have ALWAYS LOVED and ADORED Diamonds Are Forever, A View to a Kill, and Licence to Kill... "I mean, COME ON"...Tiffany Case, Wint and Kidd, the moon buggy chase, Blofeld, the oil rig assault, the ski chase in Russia, May Day's Eiffel Tower jump, the fire truck chase with Stacy, Bond Vs. Zorin atop the Golden Gate Bridge, Pam Bouvier, the tanker truck chase, Sanchez's fiery demise..."WOW!" I have also ALWAYS LOVED and ADORED other Bonds that have gotten a bad rap over the years, like The Man with the Golden Gun and Moonraker... "What's not to LOVE?"... Scaramanga's fun house, the Bangkok car chase, Mary Goodnight, Nick Nack, Bond's free fall from the airplane without a parachute, Holly Goodhead, Hugo Drax, the cable car fight with Jaws, the outer space laser battle... "OH, YEAH!" I have ALWAYS LOVED the unofficial entry Never Say Never Again, as well, which also gets trashed. "Let's see"...the Shrublands fight, the motorcycle chase, Q's pen & Fatima Blush's explosive end.."YES!" IMO: The first 16 "Classic-Era" films, the ones made by Broccoli, Saltzman, Maibaum, Young, Hamilton, Hunt, Gilbert, and Glen, the ones starring Connery, Lazenby, Moore, and Dalton, the ones with the Ken Adam sets and the John Barry music... You know... the films made between 1962 -1989... have been... are... and always will be... the GREATEST 007 films of all... As for the remaining Bond films... Well, more on that later... When you spoke of "GOOD MEMORIES" being attached to these films... Here are some of mine... Having grown up in the 1970's, I have very good memories of watching Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Live and Let Die, and The Man with the Golden Gun on TV for the first time on the ABC Sunday Night Movie in the mid '70's... It was then that I first discovered Ian Fleming's character... James Bond was my 1st favorite film hero, and Sean Connery & Roger Moore my 1st favorite actors... (Followed in 1977... OF COURSE... by Luke Skywalker & Han Solo, and Mark Hamill & Harrison Ford!) Buying my first 007 movie poster (Live and Let Die) at a convention soon after seeing the film on TV... Later, seeing the infamous "butchered 2-parter" of On Her Majesty's Secret Service on TV in 1976... and thinking that, without Connery or Moore, I'd hate it... But ending up LOVING it... AND Lazenby... Going to see The Spy Who Loved Me in the theatre at age 10 in 1977, and Moonraker in the theatre at age 12 in 1979... the first two James Bond films that I ever saw on the big screen.... Collecting the Moonraker Topps trading cards and listening to the Moonraker album by John Barry (my first Bond soundtrack) over and over again in 1979... Boating with my family in 1979 on the St. Lucie River in South Florida (where we lived)... the VERY SAME river that just a few months before had doubled for the Amazon River in Moonraker... We even saw the wooden ramps that the filmmakers constructed (and left behind!) for the boat stunts... Meeting the lovely Caroline Munro (Naomi - TSWLM) and director Irvin Kershner (NSNA) at a convention, and getting to see Rita Coolidge performing "All Time High" live, both around the same time as the Octopussy release... (Ah, yes... 1983... the "Battle of the Bonds" year!)... Working at a movie theatre in 1985, one year after graduating High School, and having multiple... ("ahem")... shall we say,... "unofficial private midnight screenings"... of A View to a Kill with my friends! Enjoying all of the media hype in 1986 when Dalton was announced as "the NEW James Bond"... It was the first time that I got to experience "a changing of the guard"... and it was thrilling... When the 007 production team was once again back in South Florida shooting Licence to Kill in 1988, and the media frenzy as it was covered nightly on the local TV stations... Yes... GOOD MEMORIES... But... Unfortunately, however... I must admit that I do have a VERY BIG PROBLEM with the films made WITHOUT the original core group of veteran 1962-1989 "Classic-Era" filmmakers... Once they were gone, the subsequent films of the "Non-Classic-Era" became VASTLY inferior, and I either REALLY DON'T LIKE them (half of the Brosnan era) or absolutely out-and-out LOATHE them (the Craig era)... IMO: The Brosnan films went from (mostly) tired, generic, "greatest hits" knock-offs to total garbage, and are easily disposable... And I don't know WHAT the Craig films are supposed to be, with their downbeat, overly-realistic, melodramatic "soap-opera" swill, and all the classic tropes stripped away... (Plus, I don't particularly care for Brosnan all that much, and I REALLY DISLIKE Craig)... I've tried MANY TIMES to appreciate these films... with NO LUCK. You were mentioning the "fun" that you were having while watching Diamonds are Forever... That's my big hang-up with modern Bond (in particular, the abysmal Craig era)... There is no sense of escapist, campy, tounge-in-cheek comic book "FUN" that DEFINED the 1962 - 1989 era any more... I miss that... However... I am willing to try YET AGAIN to temper my criticisms of my unappreciated Bond films (as you did with yours), and search my soul to see if I can FINALLY "soften" my negative opinion on ANY of them... There are quite a few that I have big problems with... but I think there is ONE that I can come to better terms with (And you won't see coming... It WILL surprise you). So... Here is my ranking of the James Bond films... First, the 19 films that I have always... "APPRECIATED"...(to use the word of the day)... #01 - GOLDFINGER.....................................................10/10 #02 - THUNDERBALL.................................................10/10 #03 - YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE.....................................10/10 #04 - MOONRAKER....................................................10/10 #05 - THE SPY WHO LOVED ME................................10/10 #06 - FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE...............................10/10 #07 - DR. NO...............................................................10/10 #08 - DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER...............................10/10 #09 - THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN................10/10 #10 - LIVE AND LET DIE.............................................10/10 #11 - OCTOPUSSY......................................................10/10 #12 - A VIEW TO A KILL..............................................10/10 #13 - ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE...........10/10 #14 - LICENCE TO KILL................................................9/10 #15 - THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.....................................9/10 #16 - FOR YOUR EYES ONLY........................................9/10 #17 - NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN.................................9/10 #18 - GOLDENEYE........................................................8/10 #19 - THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH............................8/10 NOW... I'm ready to be GENEROUS... In the spirit of this video's theme about re-evaluating unloved Bonds, my ranking continues... Let's see... I said that I might be able to appreciate ONE more... Well... What's left.... TND... DAD... CR (2006)... QOS... SF... SP... and NTTD... I can't stand these BOMBS... (All stay at 0/10). (These two Brosnan Bonds are tiresome bores... And all five Craig Bonds are abominations..."IMO")... Bond tsunami surfing... Blofeld is Bond's stepbrother (?!?)... "Give me a BREAK!". "BUT WAIT"... Hold on here".... So what's the film, then? Haven't I just ranked ALL of the "REMAINING" Bond films?. "Well... NO!!!"...Time to be GENEROUS... My pick is... #20 - 1967's CASINO ROYALE with Peter Sellers... ( "S U R P R I S E !" ) This unofficial spoof IS quite a TRAIN WRECK... but it's a "FUN" train wreck!.. It DOES have a WACKY CHARM to it, and I can appreciate how it epitomizes the whole 1960's SPY-CRAZE phenomenon... Orson Welles is good as Le Chiffre... and it DOES have Barbara Bouchet, Daliah Lavi, Joanna Pettet, and Ursula Andress... all four of whom I...("ahem")... "APPRECIATE"... If you know what I mean... So, I'll give this very flawed film another chance... Now, are the "Classic-Era" films PERFECT?... I would argue that the first five Sean Connery films are (DN, FRWL, GF, TB, & YOLT)... And as for the few "minor quibbles" that I may have with some of the other films ("I'm talking to you, double-taking pigeon"), NONE of them are SO significant that they affect my otherwise ABSOLUTE 100% enjoyment of the films. I can't bring myself to forgive the "Non-Classic" films for their flaws, as I can with the "Classic" films... I'm sure that has to do with the rose colored nostalgia glasses that I must see those films through... Yeah, that must be it... Either that, or maybe it's just that these newer Bond movies really do just BITE THE BIG ONE... "Hmmm". Anyway, this experiment was productive... As for the remaining films, however, I do think I've reached an impasse... When one realizes that Sellers' Casino Royale is STILL better than Craig's Casino Royale... I think it's time to stop! Lastly, I'm so sorry that this post ended up being ALMOST as long as the CURRENT WAIT between NEW BOND FILM RELEASES... So if you made it this far... "Thank you for reading this"... And thank you for taking the time to hear my opinions... JAMES BOND WILL RETURN... But I'm out of here! PS: Remember... If you see a mad professor in a mini bus, just smile. Even the worst Bond film (for me it’s Diamonds) is pretty good and has it’s moments. It’s just when we compare them to their counterparts that the flaws come out. They’re all great and fun though.
Hi I’m Plenty! Of course you are! No Plenty O’Toole! Named after your father no doubt! 🤣 I love every Bond film but Timothy Dalton gets very unfair press. Perhaps he was just ahead of his time. DAF, Octopussy, DAD and Quantum are the unappreciated movies in my opinion. Still love them though!
Loved this video. QoS is not on my Unappreciated list either. Rewatched DAF and I still wish Mr. Wint had put the scorpion in the doctor's mouth instead. Loved the old Vegas scenes. Goofy great fun.
I take the view now that if someone enjoys and has a lot of time for I film I don’t, then that’s up to them and it’s all subjective. I think For Your Eyes Only is one of Moore’s best and is underrated
This week I watched my lowest ranked Craig film Quantum of Solace, and it leap-frogged over Craig's last 2 films. I noticed that my least favorite action editing comes towards the beginning, but then improves. The film lacks the teal/orange color grading of later ones which it is also 37-57 minutes shorter than and Greene is refreshingly a sleazy businessman and not revenge minded. The bait and switch of oil for water is brilliant IMO.
With your understandable take on Bond book editing, would you advocate for changes in some of the Bond movies? Replacing the sound affect in the corkscrew jump in Man with the Golden Gun for example. I would, any change to improve the movies in a subtle way would be appreciated.
It’s ironic, for me at least, that while many consider A View to A Kill as not the best of the Bond movies; from a music standpoint it’s great. An awesome score provided by John Barry; and the title track from Duran Duran, which was their first #1 hit before the group split up. It’s got good music; and I think A View to A Kill is one of the best Bond songs.
My 9yr old son has gotten the Bond bug. Guess what Bond movie got him hooked….. Die Another Day…. He absolutely loves is…. The invisible car, the car chase on the snow…. He also loves The Spy Who Loved Me.
I love it but maybe could have done without the Sheriff from Live and Let Die having a cameo lol.
It’s my favourite Bond intro song in the entire series too
I'd agree that TMWTGG is the most underrated. That one and DAF.
I am really digging the positive energy here! When it comes to Diamonds Are Forever and Spectre, I have to be in the right mood to enjoy them. I am one of the License To Kill appreciators for sure.
I like LtK as a standalone film on its own merits. I don't like it as an entry in the Bond series.
For Your Eyes Only. The music is the best and Moore brill
Quantum of Solace is best enjoyed when watched immediately after Casino Royale.
Too true!
The suit is a continuity blunder. M.
It is indeed absolutely beautiful immediately following CASINO… but I’ve grown to really really really really appreciate QUANTUM NOW!
I tried that once, and I'm afraid that I ended up even more disappointed. I'm just not a fan of Quantum.
It only works that way for me when I saw it at the cinema I hadn't seen Casino Royale for ages and couldn't remember how it ended. This was like a film about the ending.
Can’t get enough of this channel. You always find ways to make talking about Bond, fresh.
I also liked Rodger Moore for his one liners, they always sounded better when he said them. "Hang on James" , "the thought had occurred to me" - Moonraker
He was King of the one-liners.
You know what they say about the fittest. Best Moore line.
I started my Bond journey with The Spy Who Loved Me in the theaters. That line, from Moonraker, more than any other epitomized Roger Moore for me.
@@phila3884 Funny enough The spy who loved me was my first Bond cinema experience. Great days!!
Solid and badass!
I agree!
Out of all of these movies, the one that least deserves to be unappreciated is License to Kill. Always growing on me!
Totally agree!!
It's my favourite Bond and Bond movie. Severely underrated.
Licence to Kill my second fav Bond right after On Her Majesty's Secret Service
I watched it recently and found it had too many unnecessary gore scenes for a Bond film. But Dalton and Lowell were excellent.
I love diamonds are forever. The end scene with the two flaming skewers always makes me laugh.
It's really fun!
Flambé.
The content on this channel is amazing. I look forward to every video. David you are a true ambassador to all things Bond. My underappreciated Bond film is Octopussy - its such a fun watch that I can overlook any flaws and just enjoy.
Thank you so much!
I love you man! You're such a nerd in all the right ways!! Keep making great content, you absolute legend!
Also fun fact Cassandra Peterson aka elvira is one of the dancers.. and sid Hage was one of the henchmen
I just learned something about the DAF/Dino connection...thx for the fun fact! Wish it helped me like Diamonds more... Still love Dino, though :)
Cheers!
thats cool man.
I've really had a recent reappraisal of Tomorrow Never Dies. It's definitely Brosnan's most fun Bond movie.
It's such a colorful film!
🤦♂️
@@greatwuta Watching Diamonds Are Forever is like being on vacation. It’s all about having fun and not taking anything to seriously.
@@Ace-Of-Spades-01 A boring cheap vacation
awwwww, I like it too man
I remember sneaking out of the theater after watching Diamonds Are Forever since I didn't want people to think I actually paid money to see it.
LOL...too funny!
Always love the positivity from you David! Would so enjoy watching these films with you
Wooo! What a great video. When I am in pure chill mode the underappreciated James Bond movies are the best to throw on!
That shirt needs a slide whistle sound effect.
Love your exuberance passion David!
Your setup with all the memorabilia is amazing.
Another great video David but I'm intrigued - how much more wallspace do you have in terms of Bond movies?
I love Lethal Weapon. No wonder why I like Licence to Kill
Great video! It shows that there are no bad bond films at all! And I get the feeling I have to get one of these shirts!
Great video David
I needed a palette cleanser after Craig and No Time to Die
I will watch the non Craig movies on your list
I haven’t watched those films through in a long time
Cheers
Such great content as always. Well needed given the current lack of new Bond information/news
Thanks so much!
This video was EXACTLY what I needed on a rainy Saturday morning!
So happy to hear you say all those wonderful things about DAD and AVTAK! I need to look at QOS through a new filter
Tone wise, I get more Fleming vibes from QOS than CR (sacrilege I know).
For Your Eyes Only is one that I hope to appreciate more each time I watch it.
Great experiment David. Thanks for this great video!
Good stuff! To be honest, theres 25 films so there's a Bond movie for any occasion and theres always stuff to like in each one :)
I love Moonraker! It's so gloriously over the top! It has everything a true fan loves.
I cannot agree more it's our favourite too it has everything from exotic locations, one liners galore and the scenes in space.
Completely agree, well said!
Greene feels like a modern version of a good fleming villian. Hes a businessman who is respected (or atleast has a relationship) with the government
Well done David I always turn off my brain when I watch Bond films and just go for the ride all of the films have something to derive some pleasure from. Brain off popcorn in...🍿😂
I’ve never been able to watch CR67 in its entirety, you could finish off your marathon with that but that could easily ruin your day.
LOL...that's what I am afraid of.
@@TheBondExperience don’t do it!
Great video Sir! Thanks for all your hard work David 👏
12:40 David! This is me everyday in the shower but I could never ever do it publicly, bravo sir! Bravo!
Hmmm, I never thought of describing watching Spectre as "using the facilities", but I think that's appropriate.
My favorite line from QOS is when the villain tells El General, “something to sweeten the deal” as he introduces Camille to him. 😊
Connery rules to me as well!
@@TheBondExperience All good. Great show.
Respectfully, I think Fleming set the standard.
YOLT all the way for me with MR for desserts!!
You should do a video on the best Bond one liners. It would be awesome.
Not a bad idea!
Need to know where you got the shirt! Love it
I love your content David and this was an interesting video.
Great stuff as usual, David. One day, Licence to Kill WILL be your favourite Bond film. ;-) I'm on a mission.
I did this with Moonraker and loved it.
Diamonds Are Forever 100% agree, way underrated.
Diamonds are Forever used to be my favourite Bond film. Partly as it was my first. These days my nostalgia glasses are off and I cannot ignore its problems but I still get entertainment out of it.
Great video! I was half expecting to see No Time To Die make an appearance in this video…
3:56 - Is that the same fez belonging to the guy that Bond interrogates during the DAF pre title sequence?
David,
I am won over by Quantum of Solace.
Golden Gun is one of my personal favourites. Apart from the martial arts scene it rocks. In my top five Bond movies that I watch again and again.
@@polarbear7693 The only two things I have against TMWTGG are 1) how dated an energy crisis story line seems and 2) how patronizing the line "Good girl!" seems to modern ears.
Nice to see some Roger love in this and the watches video. It’s time for you to invest in a safari suit. Btw did you watch these in 4K?
A View to a Kill was my 1st Bond in the theaters. To this day it's my guilty pleasure Bond. I go to it if I can't find anything else to watch.
Love the new intro!
Thanks!
I honestly feel Timothy and Pierce are very under appreciated, everyone knows Goldeneye but not many people really talk about the rest and they are so good
These movies are a good change of pace. Tomorrow Never Dies and Spectre bring back some good memories.
David, thanks for this tour of your views on the entire EON Bond films.
Some of the Bond films seem hodgepodge collections as if there was a writers’ collective assembling “expected” scenes. Great cinematography but scenes that make you wonder “Who thought this was useful?”
As a writer, I trust my editor when he says “this doesn’t work.” It hurts but I don’t have a huge stake in the game. When you have completed a very expensive scene shot at a beautiful venue with good acting, it is hard to find the truth teller to say it doesn’t work.

I have yet to rewatch it since I saw it in the theater haha.
What a lovely positive up-beat video. Thank you 👍… maybe i’ll give DAD another chance.
David, I appreciate Never Say Never Again. And I under appreciate SPECTRE for sure.
Zorin atop the Golden Gate Bridge, Pam Bouvier, the tanker truck chase, Sanchez's fiery demise..."WOW!"
I have also ALWAYS LOVED and ADORED other Bonds that have gotten a bad rap over the years, like
The Man with the Golden Gun and Moonraker... "OH, YEAH!"
I have ALWAYS LOVED the unofficial entry Never Say Never Again, as well, which also gets trashed.
"Let's see"...the Shrublands fight, the motorcycle chase, Q's pen & Fatima Blush's explosive end.."YES!"
IMO: The first 16 "Classic-Era" films, the ones made by Broccoli, Saltzman, Maibaum, Young, Hamilton, Hunt, Gilbert, and Glen, the ones starring Connery, Lazenby, Moore, and Dalton, the ones with the Ken Adam sets and the John Barry music... You know... the films made between 1962 -1989... have been... are... and always will be... the GREATEST 007 films of all...
As for the remaining Bond films... Well, more on that later...
When you spoke of "GOOD MEMORIES" being attached to these films... Here are some of mine...
Having grown up in the 1970's, I have very good memories of watching Goldfinger, Thunderball,
You Only Live Twice, Live and Let Die, and The Man with the Golden Gun on TV for the first time on the ABC Sunday Night Movie in the mid '70's... It was then that I first discovered Ian Fleming's character...
James Bond was my 1st favorite film hero, and Sean Connery & Roger Moore my 1st favorite actors...
(Followed in 1977... OF COURSE... by Luke Skywalker & Han Solo, and Mark Hamill & Harrison Ford!)
Buying my first 007 movie poster (Live and Let Die) at a convention soon after seeing the film on TV...
However... I am willing to try YET AGAIN to temper my criticisms of my unappreciated Bond films
(as you did with yours), and search my soul to see if I can FINALLY "soften" my negative opinion on ANY of them...
#01 - GOLDFINGER.....................................................10/10
#02 - THUNDERBALL.................................................10/10
#03 - YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE.....................................10/10
#04 - MOONRAKER....................................................10/10
#05 - THE SPY WHO LOVED ME................................10/10
#06 - FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE...............................10/10
#07 - DR. NO...............................................................10/10
#08 - DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER...............................10/10
#09 - THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN................10/10
#10 - LIVE AND LET DIE.............................................10/10
#11 - OCTOPUSSY......................................................10/10
#12 - A VIEW TO A KILL..............................................10/10
#13 - ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE...........10/10
#14 - LICENCE TO KILL................................................9/10
#15 - THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.....................................9/10
#16 - FOR YOUR EYES ONLY........................................9/10
#17 - NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN.................................9/10
#18 - GOLDENEYE........................................................8/10
#19 - THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH............................8/10
NOW...
( "S U R P R I S E !" )
This unofficial spoof IS quite a TRAIN WRECK... but it's a "FUN" train wreck!..
Either that, or maybe it's just that these newer Bond movies really do just
BITE THE BIG ONE...

Another great video. A view to a kill!!!!
"Bond doesn't care"
So true. ❤
The ‘cue 80s music’ part put a smile on my face 👍🏻👍🏻
Loved this video. QoS is not on my Unappreciated list either. Rewatched DAF and I still wish Mr. Wint had put the scorpion in the doctor's mouth instead. Loved the old Vegas scenes. Goofy great fun.
I take the view now that if someone enjoys and has a lot of time for I film I don’t, then that’s up to them and it’s all subjective. I think For Your Eyes Only is one of Moore’s best and is underrated
For Your Eyes Only is my 7th favorite Bond film.
The Living Daylights is one of them.
"Live and let die" is my favourite Bond film and i think it's quite under appreciate !
With your understandable take on Bond book editing, would you advocate for changes in some of the Bond movies? Replacing the sound affect in the corkscrew jump in Man with the Golden Gun for example. I would, any change to improve the movies in a subtle way would be appreciated.
DO NOT TOUCH THE BOND MOVIES! :)

Aftermath of No Time To Die has lead most fans to love all the other Bond films pre Craig era
John Barry is definitely the unsung hero of AVTAK
My 9yr old son has gotten the Bond bug. Guess what Bond movie got him hooked….. Die Another Day…. He absolutely loves is…. The invisible car, the car chase on the snow…. He also loves The Spy Who Loved Me.
Did this with TMWTGG and enjoyed it a ton more than usual. At least the first two thirds
