    Thanks for the video, I also have a 1976 Evinrude 6hp outboard. This conversion worked great....however I learned something IMPORTANT.
    When installing you must be extremely careful NOT to leave too long a wire underneath the fly wheel. If you do it will rip all your work apart in a heartbeat. So.....when you install these chips here are the hints I learned.
    1) remove the old points and condensers....but KEEP all the screws and parts as you can reuse them for the installation of the Nova II.
    2) I used splice connectors to attach the chip sets. Keep the wires short as you can.
    3) Be very careful to keep all wiring below the level where they will be hit by the flywheel.
    4) Drill out the Nova II chip hole to 5/32 so you can slide it over the old points pivot post. (keep the old clip from the points post)
    5) Using about 5 (number 10) washers you can keep the chip down and the old clip will hold it in place
    6) if you loose one of the clips as I did....you can use something else to hold down the Nova chip.
    7) use the old screw from the condenser to attach your ground wire.
    8) once completed tuck all wires neatly down to avoid contact with the flywheel. This is a 6hp motor so it has a bit more room than the motor shown in the video above.
    9) I set the spark plug gap at .30 inches. This seemed to work well.
    The motor started up nicely and ran smoothly.
    Good luck with your conversion.
    Sorry.....I tried to upload photos but was not allowed or able to do so.

    Hi! Thanks for the video.
    I managed to place the nova's inside the flywheel by fabricating a smal aluminum bracket on the coils (1964 evinrude 3HP).
    Works like a charm!

    Hello. I have a 1946 Johnson Sea Horse 5 hp. TD 20. I replaced the points and did everything I believe to be right. Can't get no spark. I tested the coil and they run 8k all the way to the sparkplug wire tip. I did have spark on one cylinder before removing points, but I don't think I can even find points.

    Kodi I have a 9.9 Ted Johnson with a solid state ignition. The stator plate I believe is bad and no longer made. Only CDI make them but 289.00 for a new one. Question is could I do away with that and use a atom or Nova chip so I can get spark? It's a twin cylinder so I know I would need two chips. Thankyou for any help on this

    • @kodibassInsideoutboards
      @kodibassInsideoutboards  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark Williams, If your outboard is not a points & condenser type ignition the chips will not adapt & provide spark, These modules get there spark via the coil winding's & two switch transistors inside them as the flywheel magnets pass the coils, If yours is solid state (as you say) it has a capacitor discharge ignition that works thru a scr & wound not fire these chips. kodi

      @kodibassInsideoutboards  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "+@@MarkWilliams-yx7bx, under the flywheel you have 2 coils, 2 condensers & 2 sets of points, The nova chips on this engine would not fit under the flywheel so I mounted them outside on the block, Also these nova chips seem to burn up quick on a 2 cylinder outboard. I am in the process of trying the john deere / kawasaki chips to see if the work better, stand by for the results kodi

Under the flywheel is a plate with two big and four small something mounted to it on the smaller onehave the magnet metal in the center of them. I'm thinking it's a stator from what I've read on the solid state ignition and the cowling says it also. Just can't find a video on how to troubleshoot it. All I've seen has like ten small.
