Peter buys new bottles, so I don't believe that he sanitizes them. Once the bottles are filled with the hot syrup. Peter lays the bottles on their sides which sanitizes the parts of the bottle not initially in contact with the hot syrup. He does not reuse bottles. However to be safe, I suggest sanitizing them.
I understand that the mold that can appear in maple syrup is non toxic, so you can simply remove the mold and the syrup is still good to consume. Peter lives just north of Toronto, Canada and his maple syrup is available at his farm, and I believe there is a store in Alliston, Ontario that carries some. It could be shipped, but that would likely double the cost of the syrup.
Great series, Mark! Thanks to you and Peter for the peek into the huge amount of work and care it takes to go from tree to bottle!
Thanks!
Do all coffee makers like that get hot enough to bottle? I’m going to grab one, just not sure if I need to look for something special?
Sorry don't know the answer to that.
Do you need to pre-boil/sanitize the bottles?

Is it still edible after you see sports? And where can I buy your syrup?
