      whats the difference between coptic and russian orthodox? shouldnt they be the same?

    • @johnrezk7158
      @johnrezk7158 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Besides the theological differences, they have different traditions. That means different liturgical practices and things like that.

    • @BL4IN0
      @BL4IN0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnrezk7158 why can there not just be an orthodox church? This is one of the things preventing me from coming back to the church. Like do you have to be greek, russian, coptic, chaldean, ukranian, etc etc. At least the roman catholics have a singular church that connects them all. No matter where they are in the world a catholic is a catholic.

    • @Nebulous_Encounter
      @Nebulous_Encounter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@BL4IN0 There is only one orthodox church. However we're not papists so depending on where you are can affect which jurisdiction you fall under. That's all it means when you're Russian, Greek, OCA, ROCOR, etc. However some of the oriental churches such as Coptic or Ethiopian, have fallen into heresy like denying the dual nature of Christ and thus have been cut off from the body of Christ, the one holy catholic and apostolic church.

    • @JosephSaad13
      @JosephSaad13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nebulous_Encounter wow such a claim to day Orientals are heresies. Ask any Eastern Orthodox Theogican they will clarify that Coptics are not monophysite in the sense you just explain. We definitely do believe in the Two substances of Christ in one Person. Both completely divine and completely human without separation for even a " twinkling of a eye". That is not the issue. We have different angles of viewing things due to heresies we were responding to at the time and so explained things differently in response to heresy. But the we have the exact same believe in essence and substance

    I grew up Protestant, a member of the Nazarene church. At 36 now, I consider myself the definition of the prodigal son. I knew I needed Christ in my life, but the flesh kept pulling me away and still struggles to let go. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of this broken sinner’s heart Father Spyridon. I have been seeking a deeper understanding of God and Christ for three years now. It has been through much mental strain and struggle that brought me to my knees begging for the Lord to show me the path forward. I have no idea how you came to be as a suggested content creator for me, but I find it no coincidence that every time I open the TH-cam App, there is not just a valuable lesson to be heard, but the one I need to hear. I do not fully understand the orthodoxy yet, but i believe that God has led me here for a reason. My heart yearns for the daily lessons you provide, bless you Father for the work you are doing in Christ’s name! May the Lord continue to guide me on this Spiritual Journey of enlightenment!

    I was riding my motorcycle down some country roads the other day, thinking about all the ways Christ describes the Kingdom of Heaven and meditating on what meaning to ascribe to them. Great timing on this video, it really helped me understand that parable better.
    What I came away with is that the Kingdom of Heaven is not just some place where we go when we die, but more like a ‘spiritual state of being’ that begins here, now, in this life. We can choose to enter into it and participate (or not) by our actions and the movement of our nouse/heart.
    If I’m on the right track with my understanding, then burying our talents in the ground or allowing the weeds, distractions, fears, worries, and troubles of this life to choke out the seed sown within us are all warnings to guard the garden of our hearts from worldly temptations and admonishment to cultivate the ‘soil’ of our souls to receive, grow, and nurture the kingdom seed sown within our hearts instead. By so doing, we can enter into the Kingdom of Heaven state of being in this life, becoming active participants God’s will and plans for our life.

      Many of us know this feeling of fear you speak of. The lord does not want us to worry nor have fear either in ourselves nor for the world. You must figure out what it is you are fearful of and confront it by giving your fears to the Lord. It's not always easy and I too find myself being bombarded with my past or even embarrassing sins that I have committed. I'm in my first month of becoming Orthodox Christian and I'm hoping to be baptized and crisimated around Christmas. The only other advice I can give you my friend is if you haven't already, see about talking to a priest in your local parish or if you have a monastery near you call up to see if you can speak with the Abbot.

    I’m reminded of the phrase, “today, attention is currency” referring to how global big tech companies seek to make people addicted of their apps and products. If our attention is currency, then how are we spending it? Are we burying it in the mindless dirt of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, where we get little/no return for it? Or investing the finite amount of time and attention we’re given into things that are edifying and give us a 5 fold return?

    I have trouble understanding what my gift is, and how I can use it. I have a very special gift. I perceive everything in a certain way that I know is unique from how everyone else perceives. It is not just opinions and experiences, but my physical senses that I know for sure have this specialness to them. I don't see invisible things or hear other-worldly sounds. My gift cannot be felt by other people. How can I make someone see through my eyes or hear with my ears? So I have to try and get people to believe that I am telling the truth. And, as you know, many people do not believe something without evidence.
    I suppose having such unique senses should allow me to understand things that other people do not understand, and help people in ways that only I can. But for some reason, I feel like I am the most confused person. I take in everything around me and I get so overwhelmed with how much there is to make sense of and understand. I know that the Bible and the Church contain the Truth and I need Christianity as my baseline. But after that it's hard to know what to do. My hope is that I am just not meant to understand my gift yet, and God needs me to use it for a specific purpose in the future. But I am also concerned that I am supposed to be using it right now, and I am wasting it.

      Write down exactly what goes on in your mind, obviously keep it private, and then revise the material to get your points across without sounding like a nut job. And don’t be afraid to use credible research to strengthen your points. The Lord knows what He is doing with you, and I hope I was helpful.

    Hello Father.
    I wish to learn more about the Orthodox Faith. I lost my dad this July and I have found myself completely lost and not wanting for anything in life. I was present when my dad passed away. I was the first to perform CPR before anyone arrived. I held him as he died. My dads final expression has been burned into my memory. I cannot look at anyone without seeing his face. I can still feel the weight of his head in my hands. I don't know what to do or where to go.
    Kind Regards,
    Tony Stephen Charles Winstone.

      I am sorry for your loss Tony. It must have been really hard to witness the fright on your father's face at this fateful hour. You don't have to fear, take that as an opportunity to investigate the things of God more seriously. The Bible (the Gospel) is certainly a right start! Get on your knees and pour out your sorrows and agony to God who's only waiting for that. I pray the Lord may give you peace, hope, strength, clarity, and holy fraternity. 🧡

    I'm new to Christianity and grew up surrounded with protestants but I am really drawn into orthodoxy.
    With this video, why does it feel like our salvation is base on works?
    How can we know exactly what we're given? If I was given the gift to make art but refuse to use it because I'd like to do things that I am not good at is my salvation compromised?
    I don't intent to start a debate or anything. I really want to know more about orthodoxy and your beliefs unfortunately there are no orthodox in my island where I'm staying.

      There is a saying which includes 'the present is a gift', the gift that we still have time to repent, to be humble, merciful, meek, mournful, to be peacemakers and search for righteousness, to develop a pure heart!
      To do to others what we would want done to us.
      It will bring persecutions, but that is fine.

    Dear, Father Spyridon, when it comes to matters of intellectual and research pursuit, specifically in the field of mathematics and physics, how can we use this properly to follow along with this commandment if we recognize that we are well suited for such an activity? It seems someone who is a naturally gifted handiwork to be able to put this idea into practice in a much better fashion (for example carpentry, tailor etc) than someone who might be more gifted intellectually. What can one do in such a context?

    Too many pay attention to the man with one talent losing it and given to the man with ten, but are not paying attention to the fact that he with one neglected using his talent for good and the man with ten could have easily abused his five and squandered them. Too often it's viewed as if the man with five was more willing to gamble because he had more, but it's not about gambling, it's not about materialistic investments as we understand it contemporaneously (which is speculation, and was abhorred in pre-modern peoples), it's about the investment in the edification of the Church body and that which is holy.
    Pray for me Father, I find myself far too often confused and utterly in doubt as to what I am doing with my talents, and if I'm really living up to my potential. I question whether I should be working for particular persons all the time, and whether what I'm accumulating is really for a worthy purpose that He would approve of. Please pray that I may receive clarity of my path, and where I'm currently heading, so I may have a better bearing of what I'm doing with my life (particularly my current occupation/career).

    Hi I’m looking for some clarity to a question I have, thank you for taking your time to respond to anyone who is trying to help!
    I am stuck on a question I ask myself which is, why do we call the Theotokos mother of God?
    I’m sure there is a good clear answer but I just see a lot of debates over it so I’m wondering which answer leads me to truth,which will lead me to god.
    My process of thinking is that someone would say we call the theotokos mother of god because she gave birth to Jesus Christ, who is god incarcerated, but I’m stuck on this because it sounds almost as if thats too far to say, in a literal sense speaking… the mother of god? God is I am, so how could we say she is the mother of god? She did give birth to Jesus christ who is god incarnate and I feel it’s appropriate to acknowledge the importance of the theotokos don’t get me wrong but something just feels off to me when she is referred to as the mother of god and we pray to her instead of trusting in just the powers of god and our relationship with him because it was his son who saved us all.
    On the other hand though I understand the Theotokos allowed grace and faith to work through her to have the only begotten son of god to be born and this is absolutely tremendous!
    There are probably other reasons too other than what I just stated, but that’s all I could sum up based on what I know so far, as I’m still learning and have recently converted from protestantism to being Eastern Orthodox.
    I’m not trying to start any confusion or any debate, I just want to have clarity,wisdom, and understanding. Please please please understand I want to enter the kingdom of god, I appreciate your time and god bless you!
    Thank you!

    Father, I hope you read this and reply as there are no Orthodox churches near me and I find it hard to discuss my thoughts with those around me as they are either self proclaimed atheists or of another faith.
    I am having a crisis of faith. how can we believe in the lords love of us, when the universe is so large and we are so insignificant.
    why would he care about our actions?
    I am struggling to align the teaching of the bible with my knowledge of science and although I believe in a creator and creation I am struggling to believe that god would love us.
    I hope your well and peace be with you father.

    • @FatherSpyridonROCOR
      @FatherSpyridonROCOR  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The knowledge of God cannot be reduced to the kind that is found through science, it is discovered through direct relationship with God. Empirical evidence is of another kind.
      The vastness of the cosmos may be taken as evidence of the specialness of earth, since God chose to create all of this in order to make us.
      However, if you read Father Seraphim Rose’s book about creation and early man, the truth of our existence becomes clear.
      Do not let the present scientific paradigm convince you of their philosophies, science as it is presented is far from neutral, it is used to justify a whole range of heretical ideas. It has no objectivity: only revealed truth is unchanging and reliable for the salvation of our souls.
      Scientific discovery is a great gift from God, it has led to many good things, but scientism that prevails in the West is something quite different.
      God bless you.

    God possesses none of the human attributes.
    The human characteristics of anger, threats and punishment, only pertain to the human condition.
    So beware and do not allow yourselves to be intimidated by fear and threats of God.
    We are not on earth to "please" God, as religious teachers may tell us. We are on earth to "express" God and to make ever closer and closer contact with God until we become free of the magnetic-emotional bondage.
    When Christ was on earth, he urged us to forgive and abstain from judgment, criticism and condemnation.
    But the church has misinterpreted this as meaning we must "please" God by loving others and abstaining from negative emotions.
    This is not what Christ meant at all. God is not "pleased" by our behavior.
    We are masters of our fate in that we always "reap what we sow." All that Christ has taught is directed at giving us details of how to avoid sowing weeds in our vegetable patch-how to remain healthy, happy and prosperous.

    A time will come in your spiritual development when you will awaken to the enormous gift you have in your head-the gift of creative, intelligent thinking, and you will also become aware of the enormous responsibility you bear towards the way you use it.
