  • Using a simple "granny knot" to produce a hoop on the end of a nylon classic banjo string. This type of hoop is used on tailpieces with pegs or hooks to hold the string.

I have just purchased a banjo. I'm an old fellow, a complete novice, I haven't got a clue! .. and I've just got hold of a set of classic Nylgut strings (via eBay). You can perhaps imagine my horror, when I opened the packet ... no loops!! So ... just a few minutes ago, I stumbled on your wonderful video. Thank you so much! You've explained the process so very simply. You are a splendid chap! By the way, I was born in Watford during WW11. I have been living in Western Australia since 1969. I will have to look for more of your banjo video advice. Thanks again. Oh! I like your t-shirt. Cheers!

Excellent, I would advocate wetting the nylon as you tighten the knot - fisherman trick!

They say 'Simple is the ultimate sophistication' and this video is yet another proof of it. I am going to try putting some nylgut on my 5-string steel string banjo. I will use your method. You are a god-send.

Try a perfection loop. Best knot I've ever leaned for so many applications.

I'm just about to buy a set of nylons for my banjo as I'm trying to get a more mellow sound. Stumbling upon your post here was perfect. Thanks!

Forgive me if you've mentioned this before in passing, but where in the U.K. are you from? I love your accent.
