She's absolutely gorgeous! Well done! May I share some advice with you? Please dont take her to a repair shop unless you know they like vintage machines. There are shops that also sell new pieces of junk and don't like vintage machines and want to sell you some of their new junk. There are some techs that even sabotage the machine and say it cant be repaired. These machines are rather easy to service. Always use TriFlow for lubricating. And never 3 in 1 oil. It has a wax base and will gunk up your machine. And to repair this, it has to be burned out of each joint.
I enjoy your videos, keep them coming! Yes, I am a repair tech who loves these ole gals. :-)

She is just gorgeous!!! Congratulations on your new acquisition!! I can totally relate to the fear of breaking something! I went nuts and bought a 1912 Singer...I think 27K with the Sphinx decals but ours do look very similar!! They are such gorgeous machines! I can see why you can't just buy one! I want a treadle next. I actually never sewed anything in my life.........still haven't! I'm oddly intimidated to hell!! lol I just gave her a polish with a little Singer oil and she looks FAB!!! Mine was dull but now is much shinier.
My first round was trying to load up the freakin' shuttle......... I watched 27 videos, read the manual until I was cross-eyed, cried, screamed, took a warm bath and then finally got it!! Jeez, I'm usually not that much of a dolt!! Today I think it's time I start trying to get this old gal doing what she does best...actually SEWING! I thought I'd look up what the number 1 song was when the Titanic left port and see if that helps. Scratch that, horrible music!! lol
Good luck with your new baby, I hope all goes well!!

I just finished making pyjamas on a similar machine from 1919. There's no backstitch, so often you have to tie off the ends by hand (which I quite liked). I did a bit of research on how to service it and if you haven't already, get a clean and dry paintbrush and dust it all out. Pick any dust bunnies out and oil the machine really well. The sound it was making is because it is dry and you don't want the metal to wear. I then took the tension bit apart and cleaned it out and buffed the discs with oil lightly and checked the timing... There are a few service manuals online, luckily mine didn't need any timing help. I hope you enjoy using it!

I was just gifted a treadle sewing machine with a coffin top or wood bonnet (apparently there’s a Facebook group that is into them). I think I was gifted it the day after I saw your last video. I haven’t really played with it yet or researched it’s age. A handyman came to install a new ceiling fan in my sewing space and asked if I wouldn’t by any chance want an old Singer treadle sewing machine. Does a child say no to candy!?!? I’m not exactly sure if it is Singer because it’s faded where the name usually would be.Congratulations on your second antique sewing machine 🥳

uuuu you 're talkin like a person who is about to buy a treadle machine in "bad" condition. And I am living for it!!! I have to remind myself all the time that I can only sew on one machine at a time. As in, I don't have four arms ... yet. But if I came across these two babies you have now ... I would have two more machines. Yes! Is it obsession? Naww it is passion! Love! Also I have to add that in the middle of this huge quarantine mess I went to an estate sale and bought a Juki Industrial machine for $95. I just bought a Singer 128 that came in a bent wood case that's from 1950. Essentially it's the same machine. Only mine has the Godzilla finish with basic decals. It came with an electric light and motor but, I like the hand crank machines better. So, I installed a spoked hand wheel and crank. It works perfectly! No fuss over having to deal with tangled cords or trying to fiddle with an electric outlet.

However the 27k from 1910 which arrived at the same time, is really not behaving itself and the needle isnt taking up the thread from the bobbin! Guess its the timing. I believe the boxed machines were not so much meant to be portable, but more likely they were easier to handle in a household than a threadle, and the box was for safe /dustfree storage, the handle to get it out of a cabinet for example and lift it onto the table you'd repair your kids' clothing on!
That's just what I've come across last year (while hoarding the machines oops) and it seems plausible 👌🏻
Also you are so getting that threadle. I told myself I hadn't enough space in my appartment, then I moved to a house... and got a 1925 Singer 66K threadle 😂❤

I have that singer shuttle machine from 1895 and you can also hear the shuttle when it sews and I also discovered that the button that rotates where the winder is where the reel is filled, when turning counterclockwise, until it hits When you lower the needle and sew, it is to tie a knot in the stitching and then return to its place all clockwise to sew normal 😁

You are funny! Just found you. Yep, this could be an obsession...in addition to my two modern Janomes, I have a 1902 Singer (given to me), a 1962 Singer (the machine my mom-in-law taught me to sew on), and a 1958 Singer machine my husband found in a thrift shop for 8 dollars (after spending $35 more on it, it runs like a race car). I try really hard not to look at any online, as there is NO room for them in my house!

💕Happy you're here! WOW!! So many! I completely agreed, I've been avoiding browsing them online! I also don't have room for any more... well at the moment, I'm sure I could make it though..... 😅

I have a 1888 'fiddle base' Model 12K and just bought a 1895 Model 28K for £12. The top of the case is missing and the machine has had a 1950s electric motor fitted. Works fine though and I have the early 27K/28K instructions and box of fittings. The hinges on yours look loose and looks like you need to replace the rubber pads for the base to sit at the front. Love these machines.

I think antique is 100 years old or older. Vintage is anything 100 years or younger. Vintage singers are a joy to sew on I have 7 of them! 😁

When you hinge the machine over you will see there are two leather height spacers one at each end with a small nail through them which will need replacing until you get a chance to do that just get a paper towel and fold it over a few times and put one at each end under the machine to pack it up a bit so the cover plate slides out

Great purchase--even a week after your first great purchase! Looking forward to a potential Jane A project! Just an observation--I wonder if there may be some part of the mechanism that sticks a bit which may cause that clicking at each stitch? I mention this after watching Bernadette B's earlier vids in which she uses her hand-cranked Singer--i do not recall it clicking like that. I doubt it is a major thing, rather, just something that occurred to me. Happy antique sewing!

Hmmm.. I’ll have to look more into it, but both machines do it. I’m wondering if she edits the sound for voiceovers/music?

My 1893 28K just arrived from the U.K. and worked like a dream right out of the box! (I have a 1871 Willcox and Gibbs chainstitch machine arriving tomorrow). I thought I was okay with my 1903 VS27 treadle, but once the bug bites us, I guess, that's it!
(By the way, Jane Austen was 1810, not 1910... but the projects sound fun anyway!)

1894 machine easier to fix and probably more rare, especially if it's a fiddle base model 12 singer. I have 2, love them. if that's what it is and you get it, make sure the boat shuttle is with it along with the coffin lid.

I'm sure you can find one online in PDF! The manual for mine is for the 28K, so I wouldn't want to give you the wrong instructions if it is different. Needles would be the 15x1 (flat to right), I have found mine thrifting, but I'm sure you can order them online!
