I believe all the fans of SoA are true dedicated fans that love the show no matter what happens in it because they know that what Kurt decides to do with the characters is necessary to progress the plot and please us, the fans. My kids watch SOA. They are way younger than 15. Then again, I RAISE my children and have taught them that tv is fake and I don't have to worry about them being immature and reenacting things they see or hear. Parents don't shelter their kids, they teach their kids.
My daughter has watched S.O.A with me since the first episode, And has watched Ashley since she was little, She has been a fan of sons long before Ashley started on the show, And she is only 13.
So Crates. The only thing I see is a conjunction of 2 elements in his life: He lost his wife and dad at the hands of Clay. He despises Clay and he sees Clay--not the club itself--as pure evil. At the same time, he sees Jax as good. As the wholesomeness and purity of good intentions they had as kids and their hopes joining the M.C, to have fun, bring joy to all their lives. In Opies's deep depression, starting with not supporting his family and his kids forgetting who he was when he gets out of the 5 yrs in prison, to Donna dying--for him essentially--he can't see clearly. He does not care if he lives or dies after his new marriage turns to shit and his dad is murdered. He just knows that Clay must die and what is left of the M.C. must be saved from Clay. So only Jax can do that. If Jax dies in prison (shouldn't it just be county jail? Even parole violators stop in county jail while a judge or parole board holds a parole revocation hearing?) Anyway, if Jax is killed, any chance for good in their world goes with it. Not sure why Tig and Chibbs need saving except that Jax is so weak without them to battle Clay? Opie sees himself and his life as damaged goods that hurt anything that touches them. He has no faith he can get better to fix his life. A true deep depression that shrinks put the person on serios anti-depressants that make a person too sleepy a zombie to hurt themselves or others. Weaken any resolve they may have. Make them lose the rage. And then get them in the sun for exercise to awaken endorphins. Help them see the big picture, remember hopes and dreams, which Opie lost again when the new wife admitted to getting an abortion, taking b.c. pills. He needs to see the big picture see how much life can change in a few years. But Opie is in prison--impossible to see the big picture there. Just one smack down after another for him in his life since he got out of prison before. He can stop the pain, save the others, and free Jax to save the SAMCRO from Clay by letting this unstoppable force take him out. He can't hurt anyone or anything again and leaves doing something right. Something big. And it gets even with Clay, saves the club, saves the ("pure" or good) Jax, and even his kids by taking them out of touch with him, who curses those he loves through connection with him. Redemption. It's a little complicated but the line is straight and everything he sees supports the choice he has made. Jax is the charmed guy for whom life can change, but he is not. Opie is the guy who has to pay his bills and do the time. Nothing saves him. When he tries to go straight, dirty cops won't let him He can't earn enough for bill collectors already at the door. When he does what is right by the club, refusing to turn into a rat, his wife gets killed anyway just because she drives his truck doing a good errand. He blames himself in the end. He was not smart enough to foresee that risk. Then when he holds back from killing Tig or Clay, trying to do right over Clay getting Donna killed, let the club handle it, or Jax the President, Clay is still alive to kill his dad. He does nothing right and sees his death as a way to save his kids from the wreck he makes of everything. This is his only option, something he can't wreck up?

So I get the DVDs, problem is season 4 isn't out here till October!! But then I get to spend a day watching the whole thing... in my pants, with biscuits. Good times.

Aparently they wrote a character where it's an escort where her speciality is that she looks like a Disney character and they thought it would be funny to get an actress who HAS actually played a Disney character.
