    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    Affectionately called the "Melanie Medley" performed on a Special Edition in May of '71 as the Ed Sullivan Show was coming to end. What a great appearance to not only celebrate the first singles released by this group, but especially to celebrate the TV program that captured our attention for so many years.

    The matching suits for the blokes and dresses for the lasses must have been a US thing as they never wore completely matching stuff in European concerts - maybe similar or complementary but never uniform. Still, as long as they got paid . . .😀 And Eve singing Beautiful People 😍😍😍

    Obviously a contrived showbiz act put together by cigar smoking "suits" in the entertainment industry who, in 1971, figured they could cash in on the "youth" music movement. To the kids in the group this was a major gig and must have been exciting. They didn't create their own art and music. Doing cover tunes of other artists they were a "hair and costume" theater arts act. I'm sure they each individually went on to be in other bands and theater arts projects.

    • @simonduggan6860
      @simonduggan6860 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the guys in the group did wright and record their own material, featuring on all their albums, although they were a manufacture band this doesn't mean they weren't talented singers and musicians.

    • @SallyWilliams
      @SallyWilliams 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They were put together by Keith Potger, member of the australian group The Seekers, after they split in 68. Peter Doyle & Marty Kristian already had success as solo artists in Australia, while Lyn Paul & Eve Graham sang in a Manchester based band, the Nocturnes. And they were very good singers. Not every songwriter can sing, and not every singer can write songs. That's why a collaboration is often the best result, especially when a good musical arranger joins the team. There are too many good composers with mediocre singing skills around

    What did they do to your song? They hacked at it and shortened it so they would have more time to sell soap.....

      Then, the big box of laundry soap turned into a little box of laundry soap, for a higher price! Laundry soap companies claimed the smaller soap is more concentrated! I will get off my soap box now.
