- Reid Moon of Zelienople, Pennsylvania, likes to say he has about 200 kids, but they're not his biological children. They're the students who rode his school bus, a job he held for 27 years before retiring. When some of the now-grown students gathered recently for one last ride, they talked with correspondent Steve Hartman about the lessons they'd learned from the man in the driver's seat.

I'll never forget my one and only public school bus driver. I was the new kid in the countryside town - I had no friends, I was overweight, and as shy as could be. As soon as I stepped on the bus by myself (I was one of the last kids to be picked up), there was an entire chorus of kids calling me names. It was horrible. Thank goodness the first seat was empty across from the bus driver - Mr Armijo. He looked in the mirror and told them to knock it off. I wiped away the tears and rode silently the nine long miles it took to get to my junior high school. That year was a long one, but Mr Armijo always looked out for me, and the first seat was always empty. I greeted him every morning from the second day onward with "Buenos días, Mr Armijo, cómo está usted?" He loved that I spoke Spanish - it was both our first language, and we both felt comfortable with it, although I was completely competent in English by the age of three or four. None of the other kids on the bus spoke Spanish, so he and I became fast friends. We would converse in Spanish on the way to school. Eventually, I came out of my shell and made friends by the 9th grade. But all the way through 11th grade I rode the bus, and Mr Armijo was always a shining example of Love and Respect. He protected me, loved me and respected me all the years I was a passenger on his school bus. He was such a sweet, sweet man. I will never, ever forget the protection he afforded me from the bullies on the bus. I know he's in Heaven for sure. I am so blessed to have been in his graces. May he forever rest in peace. 💐❤
God bless every bus driver - every one. They are so special carrying our beautiful children everyday. ❤️ 🙏🏽
I admire the pride this bus driver took in his work. He has a big heart, and it shows.
Tears of joy running down my face! This should be shown at every bus driver training.
Funny how school bus drivers are more memorable & appreciated than some teachers I had. Especially in elementary school. I was even kicked off the bus for a week in 3rd grade. Our bus routes were long too, maybe an hour or more.
This man has made such a wonderful impact on so many children’s lives, and it’s so beautiful to hear this story! What a blessing he is to his community! We need more teachers and bus drivers like this! Growing up, I will never forget my bus driver. I still live in the same town as her. She was so precious! She would literally stopped school bus on the way home if the ice cream parlor bias, an ice cream cone before dropping us off. It’s one of my most amazing school day memories. People don’t stop and think anymore about the little things you do that bless the Child’s life. We need more people like this man. He deserves an award.
What a treasure Reed Moon is in the lives of these children. Continued blessing for him, & his family to share their Dad with Zelinople.
That was heart warming. Love and respect. So simple yet so powerful.
He is literally Mr Rogers with a Chaufer's License. God bless hm!
What a Blessing you're giving !

Zelinople is a great place to live
Im sorry but ive been walked all over my whole adult life because of my kindness and undue respect for others. Maybe before 2000 you used to get it back but now you just get called weak and get marked as prey.
True. So adapt to these brutish times by being more selective who you open up to with kindness. It's what I did. Solves the "you're a human punching bag" issue. And when you get walked on, drop that person immediately; have no further contact with them.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. You didn't deserve that at all.
Wow, The School Bus driver teaches what 90 per cent of Our Christian churches don't teach, show Love and respect to each other, Imagine that.
You have to love and respect in real life, not put a tattoo on your body about it.
The dude didn’t say he tattooed it on him so he didn’t have to exemplify it. It’s admirable he took a small lesson from a bus driver and literally engrained it within himself to make sure he doesn’t stray from it.
