    I’ve a few PRS and what gets me about every single one is that the tremelo’s (gear-shift) hardly ever go out of tune. I hadn’t had one of them setup for almost 2 yrs because it just played and sounded so great and when I picked it up again… voila’! It was perfect, still.
    Luv my PRS’s but the prices have shifted out of my favor and keeping me from buying anymore. Glad you’ve gotten yourself a few to enjoy.

    Wish I had a PRS DGT! 😃
    David Grissom and Joe Ely (the wrong order? (and John Mellencamp)) Was my favourites in the 80's) and I was lucky to hear, Joe Ely and DG "Live in Copenhagen 1987".
    My now wife and I, was almost the only ones at the show! One of the best shows I've ever been to, and I got to hear my favourite guitarist play all night!
    We were young, drunk and happy, and the band were playing for us! As far as I remember he played a PRS... I thought it was strange as, I thought he was playing a Telecaster, from listening to the albums... Remember that 1987 was 6 years before that the internet was widely introduced. Even "Guitar Player" magazine was hard to find...🙏‍💜

    I use the coil tap more than the tone control so I switched mine out for a Mini Switch. For a tone control I use the center position and mix the PU's. Got mine in 2008.. wanted the Gold Top... all they had were Top "10" Cherryburst it is beautiful.

  • @sonnyblu6299

    David is from Louisville originally and also played with John Mellencamp besides his famous time with Joe Ely... He became friends with drummer Kenny Aronoff while attending IU. Attributes George Harrison's guitar break in "Got to get you into my Life" from The Beatles Revolver album... as a Riff that really sparked his passion for guitar. ;-)

  • @AbcDino843

      Interesting, definitely have a tech check it out to see if it was modified. In my opinion the 594 split neck comes closer to a true strat sound. The DGT neck split sounds like strat on steroids, different but still a great sound. Also check out some videos of people who have put an out of phase switch on their DGT. Even more tones possible.

    • @BuddyBlues

    I got a nice deal on the DG 30 amp and cab and man is it the real deal. The best way I’d describe the sound is “organic”. Organic tone, organic distortion, organic feel. I don’t understand the need for the “boost” switch, honestly. I mean why would you ever not have it on?? Jazz? Maybe? Anyway this amp has a classic Vox meets Marshall with a sprinkle of Brownface amp feel. Whatever that means, lol. So it has vintage tones but it essentially has a sound of it’s own in the end. The master volume is so well done. I find this amp really shines with the master and volume are both above halfway, preferably volume in 6-8 and Master wide-freaking open. And I love love the cabinet. It has a nice airy feel but with some kick you get from a closed back cab. And a little springy-ness feel I think due to the pine construction. Anyway I thank Buddy for this video because it helped sway me to get this lovely amp. BTW it’s so amazing I immediately sold my great Fender Vibroverb ‘64 custom shop reissue. Didn’t need it anymore, plain and simple. And yes, it kills paired with a DGT. (Preferably a goldtop, lol)

    Just a couple points, the bridge knob is first because DG stated he spends 90% of a gig on that pup, the amp knobs are that way for when you’re gigging and head is on cab the knobs are easier to read for a player standing up gigging (also insert Vox & fenders biggest seller the Hot Rod series, etc), just feel you should point this out as both pieces are quite specific to the player they were designed for. Other than that I dig the playing and demoing of the gear nice work, love my 594 Hollow, all the best.

    They probably avoid using the names because PRS ended up in a costly litigation with Gibson over their Singlecut in the early 2000s.
    PRS eventually won, but it was yet another instance of Gibson’s preference for litigation instead of putting resources into making top notch guitars.

  • @frantisca
    @frantisca ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The DGT is probably the most versatile PRS. I have mixed feelings about the split. Yes, it's nice to be able to split both pickups and the neck sounds quite stratty when split. Ideally though, I would have liked to be able to split both pickups independently and that's probably what the previous owner wanted when playing both pickups together: bridge split and neck full. This should come as an option by adding another push pull (or better push push) on another pot.

    • @nathansnelgrove
      @nathansnelgrove ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100% this. It'd be super useful to split one and not the other, or even to split just the neck so you could swap between a rhythm and a lead sound. And it's not like PRS can't do it: they could use the volume knobs as push pull (or push push, ideally, as you said), or heck, use toggles like they do on the 24-08 and 22-08.
      Otherwise it seems like a couple DGTs are great complements to a collection of LPs if you need a similar sound in a lighter, smaller form factor for long gigs.

    The toggle switch position being on the top horn like it is on the 594 would convince me. I would love a DGT if the switch was in that position. But I have found that behind the trem position is cumbersome to me. But maybe I just would have to get used to it.

    • @8sigreg
      @8sigreg ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It takes a minute to reestablish the switch location for me. I hit it at the end of my strum instead of the beginning.

    • @BuddyBlues
      @BuddyBlues  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I played strats my whole life so I guess I’m “spoiled”. The switch is right there. I can change the switch 4 times during a solo without skipping a beat. Les Paul’s and 594s are also kinda easy like you said. But yes. It does indeed take some time getting used to being all the way back. Same for my prs studio. You really HAVE to reach, and I find on stage if the tremolo is resting in playing position it’s a whole thing to switch effortlessly. But you really do get used to it after a while

    • @nickagervasi
      @nickagervasi ปีที่แล้ว

    The body on a DGT is McCarty thickness... in fact a DGT IS a McCarty with a few modifications. Also when you pull up on the tone knob it splits BOTH pickups not just the bridge.

    • @frankgreco

      Just David Grissom. 🤣🤣 kidding it is a killer plexi style amp. It just needs to be really pushed

      @@BuddyBlues probably some truth to this LOL 🤣 ok, so more of a giging amp and studio than home use at low volumes.

      @@BuddyBlues I got this amp with matching DG custom V30's cab and Playing through my PRS Black DGT, yes black because black sounds better ;) I guess this amp is for me and David Grissom haha. There is something special here, it is for the player that wants a touch sensitive dynamic amp that is very keen on tonal characteristics from your hands. It can cover the black face, brown face, Tweed, VOX, Hiwatt and Marshall 50 watt Plexi to a degree with the top cut, presence and boost settings on the back all while doing its own thing, but can be pushed into either of these camps, very enique amp in this regard. I will probably be buried with this amp, it is that good. Cheers!

      @@BuddyBlues yes you are right , it is killer ! I have a PS-100 FRYETTE Power Station Re-Amp on the way, this should take care of that wanting to be pushed. All the best !

    U might want to check your wiring… the DGT splits both pickups…

  • @nevenlisica

    First of all pickups are tapped not splitted. Huge difference there… and the neck is also tapped. Don’t know why your’s DGT is not tapping the neck? This is wierd… Mine taps both pickups.

    I wish PRS wouldn’t ignore lefties and make their finish look less plastic-y ... I wish, I wish, I wish ... I guess we always have something to moan about. Nothing to moan about your channel though, it’s awesome!

      The DGT finish is high gloss nitro with a cellulose undercoat. It WILL check in time
