Can't go wrong with any of these.
Personally I like the Ram better for both the styling and of course, the 6 speed manual but the Chevy sounds sweet and the Allison transmission is a safe bet. Also, those Eaton lockers found in GM trucks are very reliable and pretty much unstoppable.
I like the sound of the Cummins better and I'm more used to those engines as well since my FIL used to have a 91 Ram 250 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins/5 spd manual and it was bulletproof. He purchased it brand new and sold it 2 years ago with still plenty of life left (CA truck =no rust)

Doesn't help the looks for the lbz that it has a 2004 1500 hood and grille on it. Hood and grill are slightly more aggressive for a 2006 2500HD than the 1500. The other thing to consider with the duramax in comparison since I own a couple would be the lbz injectors could be getting tired at 240k, leading to a lack of power. It may run fine and drive fine like mine, but till you've driven a low mile lbz to a high mile one with original injectors back to back, it's hard to say their fine. My lbz has 200k and it's doesn't have the power it used to cause the injectors are definitely tired. But other than that I love the Duramax's I have an lb7, had an lly, converted it to and lbz, and I definitely love me my duramax. Driven 6.0 powerstrokes, not that impressed. Driven 5.9 cummins, wasn't terribly impressed with its get up and go. Torque yes, speed no. Duramax to me has the best of both worlds. Got my eyes out for a deal on the new l5p, that's a Power monger, quiet, not as efficient as I'd like, but the capability of the new trucks is insane.

  • @buddy8225
    @buddy8225 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The death wobble is due to lack of maintenance on the front suspension or modified with a lift. Dodge is not the only truck that suffers from the wobble of death. The Cummins can survive being lugged. The Duramax not so much. Actually even the Powerstroke can’t handle it either. From what I have heard it’s because the Cummins is a six and not a V8. V8 diesel requires the cab to be removed to work on it. So I would go with the Dodge.
Great video as always and thanks for the update.

Cummins is the LS of the hot rod world too. People put variations in just about everything, including Volvos, and Nissans. Although anything can be transplanted, the ease and growing support in the Cummins is definatly the one chasing LS conversions. And, Cummins in different industries has good numbers. These are the two best trucks a person can buy, period. For a pre-emissions platform it just doesn’t get any better than ‘06-‘07 for both GM and Dodge. Each has pluses and minuses, the Dodge is a far heavier duty and stronger built truck overall, GM did some funky stuff and working in body shops shows those flaws. A minor fender bender in a GM you’re replacing the radiator and core support and fixing both front fenders because they buckle over the center of the wheel opening, along with a bumper and bumper brackets. Same on a Dodge or Ford, maybe a bumper and grill. That’s it.
I’m on the hunt for a clean LBZ Allison that’s not priced insane. The hunt continues.

I happily traded it for a gasser F-250, just to give you an idea of howad at GM I was. Later on encountered the Rams and immediately fell in love. There isn't anything that holds a candle to a Cummins with a manual. I love that handshake and how those trucks handled. They changed the front end and the interior in 06 and I think they don't look as good. I'm a GM guy, I will never buy a Ford truck, but if I did it would be a 7.3 IDI or Powerstroke. In this video, I'd go with the Cummins because of the 6 speed manual. The Chevy looks better in my honest opinion

I own both as well. 07 3500 crew cab long box 4x4 6.6 duramax and a 04 3500 crew cab short box 2wd 5.9 cummins. Both are SRW. To me the cummins has that raw pitbull on a chain feel. It just grunts right off of idle (I'm a chevy guy at heart).. Anything I put behind the cummins I've put behind the duramax and they both handle it well.. I drive the cummins around town. It has a better turn radius (this truck has a rack and pinion) but the suspension is just brutal.. Any long huals or trips its the duramax all day. The duramax will do anything my cummins will but with gloves on. Just like you said it's just a bit more refined.. At the end of the day the duramax is my pick.. Although,,, I would not get rid of my cummins.. it has its purpose...

A 6.0 powerstroke is a disaster waiting to happen haha

i'd prob prefer the duramax then honestly overall. Ive driven a 7.3 powerstroke and it doesn't really compare to these power wise, and of course the 6.0 and 6.4's i would stay away from. also have driven a 6.7 and it was great but am concerned about long term emission problems

A Necker's Knob! Those are ILL- legal in my state. And hey: Safety belts all the time every time-- Batman and Robin never left the Bat Cave without their belts clicked, neither should you.

You should straight pipe the Cummins and take the silencer ring out of the turbo.

I really like chevy trucks but I'm not a fan of independent suspension on an HD truck. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of rams box frames.

I always hated the Cat Eye look of the Chevy, I remember the Chevy commercial from the early 90s (Don't you buy no ugly truck now) and that to me describes the Cat Eye Chevys and GMC. lol As to which is quieter that depends a lot of the exhaust system and sound isolation. I never heard anything bad about the Duramax but the general census that I have heard everybody likes the Cummins.

I was thinking the same thing all the way through this video. I'm a GM guy, I own 3 GM trucks currently and I think the Chevy is the better truck ...buuuuttttt.... I would 100% take this Dodge over the Chevy because of the manual transmission.

Awesome trucks, all the solid axles are prone to death wobble not just dodges. Duramax def a nicer riding truck though

I’m a Chevy guy and if both were auto I’d pick the Chevy, and if they were both manual I’d go Chevy but between these two trucks as shown I’d go dodge just for the manual diesel.

Looks like the Chevy was wrecked at some point, front fenders don't match the doors and the paint guy didn't even try to blend them so maybe off of another truck.

I think the manual and super low axle ratio is going to get old. The bad seats should seal the deal that it's not a keeper imo. A novelty, yes. Cool, yes.
