    Absolutely love my last gen woodwind. With the new WiFi controller and the direct heat slider, this is by far the best pellet grill on the market. And the sidekick makes it all you need for outdoor cooking.

    I literally just had a former co-worker give me their old Camp Chef pellet grill. They've had like three of them and love them. It doesn't have a side table though. They had the sear attachment and kept that. The side table is all that's missing. I can't wait to try it out.

    Ive had this now for 3 months, model without wifi but with sear box, I think its great. Its done a great job of putting smoke flavor into my meats. The best thing about it is how temperature stable the grill is and the temp probes for the meat. Im turning perfect meat honestly. Bringing New York strip thick cuts up slow to 120 then having the sear box ready to go about 700 degrees is so money its unbelievable. Next project is jerky on the slow 160 smoke setting, then pork butt or brisket. Guys this one is the one to get for under a thousand dollars.

    Hey camp Chef. This is probably the grill I'm going to go with. I just had a quick question. Someone mentioned something about cooking over the direct flame and grease dripping down into the ash bin. Would that be any kind of a problem? Just curious if I wanted to cook a few steaks or some burgers over the direct flame That would be a good bit of fat dripping down. Where will all that fat go and will it be an issue?

    • @campchef
      @campchef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scuba, If the drip tray is installed correctly you shouldn't have any issues with drippings into the ash bin. It is engineered for that not to happen. Some steaks and burgers are just fine.

    I did like the camp chef smoker, but sadly ive already encountered a few problems with it. Ive had it less then a year. The frist problem was after about 6 months, the hot rod went out and wouldnt heat up anymore. So i had replaced that item. Then after 2 uses, the hot rod went out again and camp chef also suggested the controller needed to be replaced too. Replacing the parts is not too hard to do, but its a pain in the ass, especially for only owning the smoker for less then a year. So now i have to replace the hot rod and controller now. So i honestly with my experiences with them, I wouldnt give the camp chef a high rating of something to buy.

      @@ElJoeRN So, technically speaking yes you could put a pot or pan on top of the searbox burner and cook that way. It's a heat source with a flat(ish) surface. It just wasn't intended and built to be used in that way, (grates may not keep the pot level, the searbox lid may get in the way, And yes the sear box gets really hot so you will want to be careful with the heat setting depending on the pots and pans you use) So, Yes you can use the searbox in that way but it's not ideal.

    Bought a woodwind petter grill with sear ($1000) 12 months ago. It died a slow death- stopped throwing smoke correctly after 6 months. Nice customer support folks. Never solved the problem though. Engineers relayed on to me that if it is not visible smoking, it is still smoking (haha, really funny guys). Nice people, not a good investment thought. Will buy a Traeger next,

      That can actually be true. Good smoke is almost clear. It's actually a blue smoke. The thick, cloudy looking smoke doesn't impart good flavor.

      @@jsho12 Correct - Alton Brown covered that. Thick dense smoke is just ash, which is like putting a cigarette out on your food.

    Don't know how much Guy was paid for this job, but he should know that it is not plastic in the pellets that causes smoking problems in pellet smokers. He must also know that pellet smokers do not provide the same smoke profile as stick burners- not even close. Just check the smoking forums online, and you will see tons of complaints about smoke flavor provided by pellet stoves compared to wood burners. There is a fundamental reason that pellets fail to deliver smoke flavor, but the explanation is too long a path for this venue. There are various add-on smoking devices that folks use to enhance smoke flavor from pellet stoves, but with limited success.

  • @BabyDiego10599
    @BabyDiego10599 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hilarious! You see all that smoke and yet nothing compares to smoking with stick wood. You just won't get a good smoke flavor in your food with a pellet grill! I had to learn that the hard way.

    • @mattmcgriff5952

      Not true at all. Done dozens of low and slow cooks on my pellet grill and have never had any complaints about not getting a true smoked flavor. Ribs, butts, briskets, chickens, salmon-all excellent. I’m not a commercial bbq cook, why should I have to manage a stick burner when I get the same, if not better, results with the woodwind?

    • @BabyDiego10599
      @BabyDiego10599 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt McGriff well maybe it’s the type of pellet grill you have or you know something I don’t 😂. So far I’ve not experienced one bit of smoke flavor in all the cooks I’ve done on my pellet grill. Just recently someone told me to put my temperature lower, like 180 to generate more smoke. Haven’t tried this theory out yet. I’m open to suggestions.

    • @BabyDiego10599
      @BabyDiego10599 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt McGriff I almost bought one of these too but went with a Grilla Grill brand because it’s supposedly was one of the better pellet grills but I’d consider buying one if what you’re saying is true.

    *TO FUTURE BUYERS*
    I saw this video and pulled the trigger because of it. But beware, if you want this for its wifi or Bluetooth capabilities, LOOK ELSEWHERE. This thing is trash, the wifi never connects or constantly disconnects defeating the whole purpose. Read the app reviews, you'll see what I mean. Don't waste your money like I did.
    Edit: I wrote a reddit post detailing how I was able to fix Wi-Fi issues. It involved replacing the antenna on the unit. Despite this, the app is still atrocious at times, so although I was able to fix it, I would still recommend a more refined unit for Wi-Fi.
