I use 3 hours fine-tuning the creatures I make in creature creator to make the perfect robotic captain. I once made the 'Atlas' robot from 'Portal 2' which strangely had a very skew center alignment because of the mouth. Parts on mouth simulated the eye while the rest of the parts were on the body to simulate the chassis. I didn't even use the robotic parts pack to make the limbs since a super thin exo-skeletal limb works nicely to make robots. - Another nice trick: If you use a certain exo-skeletal limb (the one with MANY segments) and only use one or two segments, you can simulate a cannon-like appendage.
Exactly! The game gives us an estimation of years taken to complete a stage somewhere on the screen after finishing a stage or by clicking the evolutionary progression button on the bottom left to see your history.
There's an episode of Love, Death and Robots about that. There's a civilization developing in a couples freezer and they go from dinosaurs to medieval in like 2 minutes, then to nuking the shit out of each other out of existence a few moments later, and then come back into existence and becoming some sort of super advanced mega society that eventually teleports away in a couple minutes, and then dinosaurs again
damn, spore was my whole childhood. seeing someone play this game over 10 years later makes me really happy. your videos and commentary are very entertaining, keep up the good work man
When you were a child you felt that this game is gonna be a good game even if you're like me not even in the tribal stage I always wondered when I was a child how my brothers are so good at this game and I always suffered from the creature stage and seeing someone who does it all In under a hour is insane for someone like me
commentary on this and the hard any% are great. best part of speedruns imo is learning about all the little tricks that the community's found, and commentary that explains those tricks is what makes runs like these cool (like you'd find in a gdq). hope you do more commentaries on games you like running, you clearly dig spore. rad stuff.
the biggest potential timesave i see in this is optimizing the tribal stage but i can understand how absolutely difficult that would be great run, good commentary, looking forwards to more
@atomigo bacterianovic djjaaaker if he did play he would first have to learn the controls which would be easy enough. Then he would play the game and be JESUS CHRIST ALL OF MY WORK AND HUMANS DO THIS WITH IT. not that spore is bad
I have the game for more than 10 years and I've never finished it and here he is finishing the story line, with the time I usually take to customize my space ship alone
This run didn't only make me want to get back into the game after some months, but also told me about the Pause trick and I'm real thankful on that cus that helped me a serious lot during creature stage. So I personally say thanks for that, really.
im loving these spore videos, as someone whos loved spore since i was a kid its nice hearing abt more strategies that i may or may not know already, and seeing more serious content of my favorite game! making me think of getting into speed running.
At 6:50 I thought you were learning to sing and I was thinking "Why are you wasting your time instead of skipping that?" but then I realized you can't learn sing because you always have a mouth part and that you're actually socializing.
I love spore (am playing rn) but even as a kid I was annoyed at how simple it is. Oh man 10 year old me wrote entire lists of "improvements" Seeing this tho. Nice 😊
I totally forgot about this game from my childhood, your commentaries make me wanna pick it back up. Keep it up man, hope to see more Spore in my feed!
Great videos dude, you got yourself a subscriber. I am curious could you defeat spore without upgrading a single time since cell stage ? Lol that would be interesting to watch.
Thanks! And I got a video of this exact idea coming soon! I get the center of the galaxy (on Easy difficulty this time) without evolving the cell/creature ever throughout the run! Hopefully by Saturday if I can make a commentary I am happy with. It'll be an edited version because the whole thing took a long long time.
"Hey karl look at this martian bacteria" "Oh nice Leo! This will be great for our rese- WHAT THE HELL?" "Woah it build a civilization and a intergalatic spaceship, in a moment..."
I played Spore when it came out so much, it was my favorite game for years. I never knew you can put both types of mouths on in cell stage to eat both foods. I have always thought that THE ONLY way to be omnivore in cell stage, is to start carnivore and somehow kill the green zoomy one with the proboscis in order to get that part. That was the only way I knew, and it annoyed me. This.. this video just blew my mind, and now Im reinstalling Spore. Loved the run, but that one part made me feel so stupid, but thank you for enlightening me.
maybe if i get good we can have a friendly rivaly of sorts, who knows. but thanks for the support. spore is actually my first game im actually trying to speed run. technically my first speed run was of softlock% for pokemon yellow but im not counting that.
7:46 I know this video is 3 years old and you likely won't read this, but I still have to give you credit here. Simply because easily over 90% of all content creators I see, even some big, experienced ones, don't get this apparently. They often put background music into their videos at a volume that drowns out their commentary, making it unnecessarily difficult to understand. So you're in the minority by acknowledging and fixing this obvious, easy to work around issue lmao. 3 years ago already, you're ahead of the curve.
Thank you! On one of my older speedruns I left the in-game audio too loud and got some comments saying it was hard to me over the creatures attacking, lol so I learned early ;) I'm able to read the comments in order they're posted through the Creator Studio on TH-cam without having to go back to each video to check for comments, so I should be able to see new ones!
Hey, I don't know if you already know this or not (or if you'll read this) but if you skip the opening cutscene of cell stage, even without the tutorial on, you still get that "eat five food pieces" thing. Probably not vital for the run but it's one less setting to turn on beforehand.
I play with "Game Hints" on, but "Tutorials" off. The Game Hints on keeps the 'Eat 5 Food Pieces' whereas the Tutorial brings up all the prompts that describes the HUD elements and what to do.
Wow, how come it took so long for people to discover the baby duplication glitch? I'm certain at least a few people knew of it before this video was uploaded. Most surprising to me is how long it took for the Spore community to discover that gifting tribe members directly rather than the basket will permanently set their status towards you as ambivalent, rather than decreasing over time. I guess it just says more about tribal stage than anything else. The whole stage feels like a rushed mess and it's only remotely fun to play when you abuse several bugs. Tribal stage used to make me feel so anxious, now it's just a leisurely stroll, like civilisation stage but without the fun.
I know that at the center of the Galaxy and all but shouldnt there be a category that it is completing the space stage bar? I of course understand that this take a lot more time but it was weird looking it up and finding that only one person speedrun that but also ends in the center. I find it weird because i never saw enterering the center to be an ending, there arent any credits. But i suppose you could say the same about filling up the space bar isnt also an ending. Its weird still that this was the speedrun community accord on where to end the game. Maybe everyone hates the space stage except for me...
Ending the run at the center of the galaxy made sense to as the end of the speedrun as it feels like a cool ending cut scene. And since there aren't any credits in game the Steve cut scene seemed like the next best thing. Also that was "determined" as the ending before I got into Spore speedrunning so I just went along with it, but it made sense to me as it was a clear and concise goal and felt like there was a final "boss battle" needing to drive through the Grox. For Omnipotent% (filling the space progress bar) yeah I only know of that one run that does it as a speed run. It wasn't totally necessary that the run reached the center as well but I let that runner determine the rules of the run as they were the first. I most likely won't do that since I like to keep Space stage a casual game to me (I really enjoy casually playing space but speedrunning has a tendency of me not being able to go back and casually play it anymore). We also considered a speedrun to Earth as the ending, but we could get a starting planet really close to Earth so it took less than a minute to do and didn't feel worth to speedrun. We also considered 100% including destroying the Grox. But that kind of fell through because we couldn't decide if we were allowed to know in advance where the Story Book planets were. Since if we did know where they were that could possibly save loads of time. For now since Spore speed running (at least through Space) is really only done by at most 4 people currently, we are keeping it simple and just using the Center of the Galaxy as the final goal/end of the game. Sorry for the long response but I hope this was insightful and I love when others are interested in Spore speedrunning and we always talk more here or in the discord! (Found on the src page!)
The game is capped at 30 frames per second. The mouse curser is in 60 frames which is why I record in 60 because I think it looks better but the actual in game engine is at 30.
I sometimes used 45 mins making vehicles and buildings alone
I use 3 hours fine-tuning the creatures I make in creature creator to make the perfect robotic captain.

Imagine if there was a creature that evolved into an intergalactic species in less than 46 minutes. Damn.
46 minutes for us could be billions of years for them, so that's not an impossibility.

It is possible to change a config file to allow for 60 but that's not allowed for this peed run because it's technically a mod.
